I thought I'd do a Xmas edition of the styling threads I've done before for anyone who is interested 🎄👠

OP this is fantastic, what a lovely thing to do!

I'm 39, 5'6", 12-14. Bit of a saggy tum and muffin top / violin hips going on. Pale skin, brunette. Hourglass, largish bust.
High waist trousers make me look like an ancient farmer with his trousers up to his armpits so I try to avoid them.

I'm completely stuck, I feel like I've not worn real clothes since before covid, and I've no idea what to wear any more. Not helped by wfh, so I don't actually see people anymore, and get a sense of what normal people are wearing.

I do occasionally venture to the office, but it's very much casual, 3rd sector so a bit eccentric / outdoorsy. Indigo / black jeans, maybe cords, with a nice jumper or a casual blouse, I suppose, is the level that I'd want to pitch work wear at.

I'd like to look put together, rather than thrown together. But worry about looking overdressed.

I've also just bought these boots and I really don't know how to wear them. https://www.marksandspencer.com/chunky-buckle-flatform-ankle-boots/p/clp60627122?prevPage=srp#intid=pid_pg1pip48g2r15c2

Chunky Buckle Flatform Ankle Boots | M&S Collection | M&S

These chunky ankle boots look great and feel good, too, thanks to their flatform sole and mid-height heel. Insolia Flex® technology improves the movement of the balls of your feet, which are positioned correctly to ensure greater comfort for longer. An...

Loving this thread. I'm looking for a dress to wear at my works Christmas do. We're going out to quite a casual restaurant. I am 46, 4"11, size 10 with large boobs, a bit of a tum and very short legs. I'm very pale with dark hair. I wear skater, jersey and shirt dresses to work normally. I'd like a dress that doesn't look like I'd wear it to work, but that I can wear outside Christmas events so not too glitzy.

MrsK · 08/11/2023 15:22

Such a great thread, I’ve been reading with interest

could you help me find a pair of slim fitting black velvet trousers please, I’m tall size 14 & want something forgiving/flattering at the waist

frillseeking · 08/11/2023 17:30

@GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut I was thinking of these kind of looks. I love the full skirt with boots and you can wear this with a blouse for a smarter look or with a cardigan or jumper. A dress always looks put together and these casual day dresses would also work well with the boots and tights.

Just wanted to share this co ord from Mango as a few people have asked for comfortable Christmas wear. Also available in plus. You could also wear separately. I'm going to buy this one myself!

Would you have any suggestions on any other footwear I could wear with these coated jeans to get more wear out of them rather than just heels for an evening out. Many thanks.

@MrsK would you consider something like these- link. It's difficult to find something with a forgiving waistband that's not a wide leg. Lots of slim/ straight leg styles have a fixed, tailored waistband which can be tricky although what are you considering for the top half?

Would love some help finding a Christmasy outfit.

Prefer trousers
Not too formal - something a bit fun, but not full sparkles.
Petite, 5'3" and slim build
I'm a soft summer (trying to get away from black)
Budget £100

frillseeking · 08/11/2023 21:43

@Isabelle70 they look fab. I think they'd look great with boots, something like the below or even with a smart flat shoe.

What a great idea for a thread, thank you @frillseeking.
I'm not looking for anything specific to wear but I'd like to know what brands make good quality clothing in natural fabrics, mainly cotton. The dreaded menopause means I cannot cope with synthetic fabrics. Im short 5'3'' and a size 14 hourglass so I need fitted clothes that work with my shape. Dress code at work is casual with the occasional need for something smarter for events etc. Outside of work I live in jeans and gym wear I like solid colours and no frills ruffles etc. Happy to spend more than high street level for good quality and I like to find a bargain on vinted.

frillseeking · 09/11/2023 17:09

@MandaLynn would you consider sequins? I've seen some gorgeous tops in your colours that would look fab on a petite frame

@frillseeking those are subtle sparkles (as subtle as sparkles get, at least) so maybe. What trousers would you pair with those?

I actually love the one with the bows. Is that the H&M one? I'm just not sure if it's too much for me - as I learn pretty simple cuts, not fussy

Isabelle70 · 09/11/2023 17:55

frillseeking · 27/10/2023 22:06

@Pushkinini something like this might work. A bit of subtle sparkle and a tummy skimming silhouette

I have received this blouse following your recommendation and it looks really good on a 50+ size 14 with boobs and a bit short :)
The blouse needs a wash though as it smells absolutely awful.
Thank you for the recommendation.

frillseeking · 09/11/2023 17:56

@MandaLynn I love the H&M one. It is quite a statement but I just look at it and go ahhhh... ooooo 😂 I would love to see them styled with a pair of vintage light denim jeans like the pic attached for a high/low look and to give the look a bit of an edge

@Isabelle70 oh no! It might be some kind of finishing chemical they've used in production. Hopefully it'll come out in the wash 🙏🏻 glad it looks good though!

MandaLynn · 09/11/2023 18:22

Though I'm trying to think how I'd wear it for my office Christmas party, where jeans don't really feel appropriate...white or camel wide leg trousers?
