@Stravaig I’m quite pleased with the prices. I’m sure plenty of ebayers are making their own mark ups too

Snowyowl78 · 20/11/2023 21:27

@Countmeout i tried the pond, or at least I think it was the pond. Didn’t work for me though

Stravaig · 20/11/2023 22:08

My only chance of being able to use the random 20% discount code, with only 10 days validity, offered to me for the first time in over 20 years as a customer, is if the items I currently have listed on eBay actually sell.

There is zero comparison between a private individual selling their unworn clothes in order to be able to afford more suitable clothes; and the grift of a multi-tentacled corporation which is re-profiting from items donated to it for free.

This thread.

ProfessorMinervaMcGonagall · 20/11/2023 22:25

@Stravaig I write as someone who would never buy from eBay or Vinted as I have read and heard too many horror stories and I am very pernickety about standards: my idea of ‘very good condition’ doesn’t seem to align with others’. I would far rather buy directly from Toast Renew and have trust in the grading description, plus be able to return the garment free of charge, if needs be. I have ordered several garments from Toast Renew now and they have all been in absolutely mint condition. It’s a no-brainer for me.

Saurus72 · 20/11/2023 22:55

@ProfessorMinervaMcGonagall 100% agree, I sell on eBay but gave up buying because like you, my idea of ‘as new’ condition isn’t like others’. I haven’t yet bought from Reworn but I definitely will if I see something interesting, because it’s zero risk. The Toast messaging re: ‘customers fretting about where their old clothes end up and so send it back to us’ is very strange though, and misguided I would say. I won’t be donating back…

@Dee1224 last year I think it was the archive sale around the 27th?? Aren’t they usually Thursdays?

Snowyowl78 · 21/11/2023 04:39

Actually last two years they were the last Monday of Nov!

faustina · 21/11/2023 06:39

@Stravaig I hope you manage to sell your things and find something nice with your discount

I'm not sure Ebay is the right thing to compare with the Toast reworn initiative - as others have said, the possibility of returning if it doesn't fit is a big thing - especially because of all the sizing issues. I would think a lot of people are using it who wouldn't want to buy from Ebay or Vinted which is always a gamble.

I had another Vinted annoyance the other day. I repeat bought a pair of Kin sandals which I'd worn to death (most comfortable sandals ever). Size 6, same shoes I'd already had. What could possibly go wrong you'd think. Well, they weren't size 6 - they were a 40! The seller insisted they were a 39 - she even sent me a copy of her receipt from JL, but they were definitely a 40 as it said on the inside of them. All my buyers protection entitled me to was the possibility to send them back (paying for it myself) and to have the rest of the money on credit to spend at Vinted. It obviously wasn't her fault as she'd been mis-sold them by JL - but I don't see why her mistake (not checking the inside of the shoe) should cost me £3.50? They didn't cost much but that isn't really the point.

Dee1224 · 21/11/2023 07:25

Interesting @Snowyowl78 - so it could be next week, (not that I should be spending any more money 😱).

How annoying @faustina and disappointing too! It’s amazing how many sellers on EBay too list things under the wrong size by accident.

Not the same, but also annoying was my discovery that the Uniqlo cords x 2 I ordered online were far too small, despite my having tried on the identical items in store. I almost didn’t bother trying them on, I was so sure they’d fit. Now I am faced with either exchanging in store, (but I don’t want anything else), or paying to return and losing my discount 🙃

alliscalm · 21/11/2023 07:31

@Stravaig best of luck with your eBay sales and I hope you can use that precious discount. I think the Facebook Toast group shows that as with Reworn, keenly priced items with full descriptions sell very quickly. Certainly I’ve been thrilled with my purchases and feel the group is a trusted place. However, I have blinked twice when I see used clothes on eBay with higher price tags than I’ve paid at the outlet or in the sale. I was very tempted to message one seller and say, hey I paid £70 for the dress you’ve put up for £130!

Dee1224 · 21/11/2023 07:35

Ooh, I hate the price-gouging on EBay @alliscalm - when people buy Toast in the sale, (it was particularly bad after the Ukraine pop up), and then put it on to sell at double the price! I know we don’t have to buy it, but it’s still annoying!

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 21/11/2023 08:29

@alliscalm I've seen the same with prices on Vinted, I really have to sit on my hands not to message sellers with comments.

oddandelsewhere · 21/11/2023 10:32

I've just had an invitation to a winter styling event at Llandeilo on the 30th, would they do that after a sale?

faustina · 21/11/2023 12:04

some of the prices on ebay are completely mad, I agree.

@Dee1224 - that's really annoying about your Uniqlo cords. It makes me so cross that you have to pay to send back, especially as they often don't have the items in store to try on, and a long list of reviews below which say the sizing is way out. I'm trying to work out my strategy for the AH collab at the moment, but not sure what to do. Not keen on the idea of ordering multiple sizes after reading a thread where someone had their return opened and half of it got pinched. At least that's never been the case with Toast

Dee1224 · 21/11/2023 12:09

@faustina - I am going to take my cords back to the store on Thursday with a view to exchanging, (as I too have little faith in Uniqlo’s returns!) If you tell me what are interested in from the AH collaboration, I can try a couple of things on to see how they fit me.

faustina · 21/11/2023 12:29

@Dee1224 - that is a very kind offer thank you! I'm not sure which of the stores will stock them, but it's the lambswool jumpers I'm after. The S looks fine in the model pic but I'm not sure if that's a S in their Japanese sizing or a S European (their small is XS here). They usually have the exact sizes underneath but with this collection they don't yet. I would expect a small to be pleasantly oversized on me, but when I ordered the Uniqlo C small jumper it was just shapeless, huge and horrible

Dee1224 · 21/11/2023 12:56

I see @faustina - can you link a picture?

Dee1224 · 21/11/2023 13:55

Hi @faustina - I will try on one instore on Thursday pm, assuming that all goes to plan. If I don’t report back either way by in the evening, give me a nudge!

faustina · 21/11/2023 14:38

Thank you!

BettinaInDenmark · 21/11/2023 16:14

I have been mostly off the internet since end of September, but is now getting back; sadly, I have not yet read all the posts that were made in this group in that time, but I am trying to get through them.

I had a mental inventory of my Toast items recently. I dawned on me that since the start of summer, I have only worn 3 non-Toast items: A Boden Breton, a pair of NoaNoa leggings and a very old thin, black t-shirt. I guess I actually have enough Toast clothes, if that is possible.

And still I am hoping for a Toast sale soon - how daft is that?

No1Mousie · 21/11/2023 17:21

I think they must be preparing for a sale, as some items in my basket (c.1800£ of fantasy shopping 🤷‍♀️) are showing with £0.00 scores through and the original price in red.

Firesideknitting · 21/11/2023 18:31

I’m so hopeful for a sale …. A good pick me up is needed …

Dee1224 · 21/11/2023 22:53

Weird: The sale link came up for me just now when I went onto the Toast site, but when I clicked on it, it said the sale had ended 🤣

Is something ‘sale-ish’ afoot at Toast Towers?
