@Firesideknitting - so sorry to hear about what your son is going through- sending best wishes to you all and I hope that he is better soon x 💐

That’s very kind …

Dee1224 · 18/11/2023 09:47

@MiracleToast - you have reminded me that I need to wash a lot of my summer Toast clothing, (it’s currently lying around all over the house in weird little piles like some avant garde art installation!)

I hate hand washing- but it’s not going to wash itself and the moth warning is stirring me to action.

MrsCat1 · 18/11/2023 10:00

Morning all
I recently ventured into new territory for the first time - Toast nightwear. I bought the very cosy Bea nightshirt which is soft, thick and very warm - just right for the approaching winter nights. And at almost £100 it certainly should be good! My last nightie was from M and S at about a quarter the price but it is a poor, sad limp thing in comparison. I'm now starting to dream of a second Bea nightshirt!!

Aside from that I keep hoping for a sale. On 28 November last year I put in a sale order so am hopeful.

Dee1224 · 18/11/2023 10:05

@MrsCat1 - I really want a Bea nightie- I am obsessed with toast nightwear but only have a winter wear Dhuggie that I wear over pj bottoms. (At least that means my lovely flannel pj bottoms from elsewhere get used in winter!)

MiracleToast · 18/11/2023 10:09

@MrsCat1 i began my love affair with toast nightwear last year. The nightie is so wonderful! Enjoy your cosiness.

@Dee1224 I hope the washing goes well and you also have lots of milky coffees or it’s equivalent to get your through. We will be glad of getting it all put away and safe from the moths!

@Firesideknitting I highly recommend the foraging for beautiful things. I’ve been out a lot this week and collected all kinds of seed heads and things. I find such peace of mind hyperfocusing on beauty for a while. I hope you find some of that too.

MrsCat1 · 18/11/2023 10:09

@Dee1224 I definitely recommend it. In fact I'm wearing it at the moment after a late night!! (No photo you will be pleased to know!). I have the pale pink version which tones beautifully with a new Liberty gown I have. I've not bought much in the way of winter wear so I think this is a justified indulgence!!

Dee1224 · 18/11/2023 10:21

I will be hoping for a reduction in the Xmas sale on nightwear @MrsCat1 !

Noodle421 · 18/11/2023 10:24

@Laska2Meryls please come back Laska. I really look forward to reading your lively, funny and informative posts. You give so much to this thread.

Noodle421 · 18/11/2023 10:28

@Firesideknitting so sorry to hear about the worrying time you are having with your son. It must be very difficult for you. Wishing him a full and speedy recovery.

lordloveadog · 18/11/2023 10:50

@Firesideknitting so sorry to hear you've been going through that.

@Laska2Meryls hope you'll decide you want to stay. Would miss your posts. Even if the prize draws were a bit selective, that wouldn't be a reflection on anyone selected. It was fun when someone on here won.

Today it's very cold here and light snow, tiny flakes floating around. I'm in those black cotton diamond stripe trousers and a brown collared sweatshirt whose name I've forgotten. Plus down coat and hat and scarf from Hilary thingie on Orkney, The trousers are lined and surprisingly good for winter, though I'm wishing I'd put silk liner long johns under too.

I've been at the gym a lot and although don't actually weigh much less am feeling much stronger and more flexible and like all my clothes look a bit nicer on.

MrsCat1 · 18/11/2023 11:01

@Laska2Meryls Yes do please stay.

I've now been forced out of bed to assist Mr Cat with a trip to the dump. It's a glamorous lifestyle!

It's chilly here and I have reached for a Toast cowl neck that must be 15 years old. It a gorgeous burgundy colour and after all these years is still in great condition. I have to say that I haven't had a good experience with some of their more recent knitwear which seems to bobble badly, but this is a great piece that I will treasure for many more years to come.

Noodle421 · 18/11/2023 11:02

@lordloveadog silk liner long johns !! Sublime. How come I’ve never met a pair of these in my 50 odd years of life !! Where do you buy these ? Congratulations on your gym efforts. I don’t bother weighing myself these days, just aim to feel strong and healthy and better in my clothes but I’m having an extended blip and need to become more consistent (with everything really). Just started listening to Atomic Habits by James Clear. Introducing small habits consistently over time can make a huge and lasting impact apparently. We will see !

Saurus72 · 18/11/2023 11:18

@Noodle421 I think it makes a lot of sense re: small consistent habits. I started yoga classes just before Christmas last year and I realised how stiff and compressed my body had become. Like lots of people I walked hundreds of miles during lockdown but I also spent a lot of 10-12 hour days at my desk and my body felt like it was seizing up. Quite scary. I’ve been consistently going 3 times a week and really notice the small incremental gains. Now am trying to consistently not eat bread which is my massive downfall. I’m allowing myself a small slice of spelt sourdough…😬

Snowyowl78 · 18/11/2023 11:19

@Countmeout mine are coming Monday! I have ordered some velvet dresses. I’m getting married soon and I’m trying to find a nice suitable alternative dress!

@Firesideknitting gosh this sounds horribly stressful for you, I’m glad your daughter is a big support

Dee1224 · 18/11/2023 11:25

Congrats on your upcoming wedding @Snowyowl78!

Noodle421 · 18/11/2023 11:28

@Saurus72 You are inspiring me to start up again. I did small 10-15 minute bursts of yoga with Adrienne ( I think that’s the spelling ) free classes on YouTube during lockdown and was amazed at how transformative it was over time. I stopped and now I’m stiffening up again and feeling creaky. It was marvellous how much more supple and younger I felt. Some simple positioning felt impossible to start with but became easier with time. It was so gratifying. Must start up again. Keep at it !!

Noodle421 · 18/11/2023 11:30

@Saurus72 don’t get me started on bread. Thick white locally baked bread toasted with lashings of Yeo Valley butter. Hard to give up !

Countmeout · 18/11/2023 11:31

Wow @Snowyowl78 how exciting about the wedding . Mine have now reached Royal Mail and I’m Tuesday.

Just rain here. Thankfully no snow.

@Noodle421 It’s been very humbling! When I started it felt impossible, but for whatever reason I’ve stuck with it. I have been driven by fear - my mum, though she’s always been active, hasn’t done specific exercise and she’s now very limited in her movement. I think I’ve been very lucky in finding such a lovely and welcoming studio and also, because I now mainly wfh it’s a really good end to my day and it makes me stop work, get up and out so good for lots of reasons. I know myself so I don’t do online - I need to go a somewhere where other people are watching so I push myself. Otherwise I would give up, but I guess at least I know that! Will you go to classes or continue with online? I have friends who have been doing yoga with Adrienne for years - I guess they’re more self disciplined than little ole me 😊

Snowyowl78 · 18/11/2023 11:42

Thanks y’all! I have just put a massive Black Friday order in for Nancy Mac which I’ve never bought from before- anyone?

they seem to specialise in dresses/jumpsuits you could wear as an alternative wedding dress. I’m wondering if they are a bit of a cliche but they have lots of lovely stuff

Noodle421 · 18/11/2023 11:47

Random posting here but I must say how pleased I was to see how the price of my butter has fallen significantly compared to this time last year. Hopefully this is translating into other food prices 🤞

Noodle421 · 18/11/2023 11:51

@Saurus72 im the same, lots of us in the same boat. That’s why I stopped doing the online classes as I need to be part of a group too but I’m already signed up for strength training classes - it’s financial juggle but I definitely need to do some stretching too.

MrsCat1 · 18/11/2023 11:54

@Snowyowl78 I've bought a couple of things from Nancy Mac. They do beautiful things - lovely styles and fabrics. My 'best, best' occasion dress that I bring out for weddings etc is from there. Beautiful. Let us know how you get on. And congratulations!!

applecatchers36 · 18/11/2023 11:55

Like to mix up my yoga classes generally go to 1 or two in person a week and do 1 or 2 Adrienne online. Good for the bank balance that way too ..
