Was on the MN email but I deleted it in a fit of tidyness!

Its a full length coat that was described as being like wearing a sleeping bag......iirc was about £130.

Thanks!

I've got the full length north face one and it's brilliant.

Branster · 19/10/2023 22:07

@lemonyfox I was very tempted to order that for our entire family when I got the release email a couple of weeks ago. I still am.

I have an indoor version (bough us all one each, DH refuses to use his, kids used them on and off) and I absolutely loved it last winter. Not at all flattering (totally hideous) but really warm without being suffocating. I wouldn't be without it. The number of times I've been tempted yo wear it when walking the dogs!!!!
I fully expect the outdoor version is perfect for warmth and rain.
But I'm really unsure. If it looks as bad on me as the indoor one, I'd be a bit self conscious. Would probably not wear it to the park unless it's freezing and horizontal rain, but would use it when walking the dogs in the woods.

Does it look like it can be altered to make it a bit more narrower, give it a bit of shape?

SlurpSlooChortle · 19/10/2023 22:17

I always think the longline ones look great when open, but what is it like when they're zipped up? I'd feel like I was shuffling along which is a shame as I'd love to try one.

PyongyangKipperbang · 19/10/2023 22:40

Everyone saying they think that they look hideous, well thats fine, thats your opinion. And I am glad that you dont feel the cold to the point where you can put fashion above comfort, but I can't!

As my mother said many many years ago when I was a teen refusing to wear a coat I didnt like to school because "I will look stupid!" "How stupid will you look freezing cold and soaking wet?!" and she was of course right!

So feel free to look at me and think "OMG that woman looks fucking ridiculous in her maggot coat" I will not care as I will be lovely and snug, and thats all I care about!

I suspect that many of you have not yet hit the joy that is menopause where your thermostat develops a huge sense of humour!

Here’s one that’s a bit different

Are you sure that isn’t hot water cylinder lagging? It’s got no arms!

Crikey! The price is even worse now! Pretty sure I paid a hundred quid less than that two years ago.

No wonder she needs that coat - she's gone out in long johns

Honestly though, nobody IRL would think you look ridiculous. Puffer coats are absolutely everywhere and have been for several winters. Lots of people wear them. The pretend shock from some PPs as if they haven’t seen the likes of the (mostly fairly standard) coats shared on this thread on a significant chunk of the female population on a winters day. Yeah wool coats look nice but when it’s really cold/you’re out all day/it’s windy etc they’re just not always that practical. I have some lovely wool coats but I also have a couple of puffers. I wear what suits the occasion best.

My menopause gave me the delights that is the inner radiator, I was pootling about in a thin acrylic cardigan when everyone else was in a parka.
I have found the past couple of years I’ve needed a warmer coat so hopefully the hot flushes have subsided. I have my new Perfect Parka to wear ,didn’t get the chance last year

I am the woman who is constantly moaning about being cold and then stripping almost naked when the flush starts! Thats why ladies of a certain age embrace the cardi, easy to put on, easy to take off! I was 48 before I worked that one out!

Was it a Sitting Suit @Crikeyalmighty & others asking about the Danish brand? I got the floral print last year and I LOVE it.
I live on the coast and the wind coming off the North Sea is freezing.

I’m 48 & don’t give a shit what I look like as long as I’m warm. But luckily I look amazing.

That one isn't so bad. I think rough sleepers would love it, too, as it does look very warm.
But one was shared by mumof2boys (I think I have that right) and it was bloody awful! Talk about draughty!! Lol

Mummyoflittledragon · 20/10/2023 07:12

I’d say marketed at Darleks.

I also have the Landsend down duvet coat. Very warm.

DragonflyLady · 19/10/2023 21:15

@lemonyfox what does the non-fleecy side feel like?

I've added a picture, just typical parka style coat I'd say. Shower resistant, not waterproof

No there's not, it really is exactly the same shape as the oodie indoor version except with a zip. There's no tags or straps to tighten around the sides.

Honestly I love it for it's oversized shape anyway, it's so warm!

DragonflyLady · 20/10/2023 08:42

Thanks@lemonyfox looks a bit too scratchy for me which is a pity cos I love the look of them!

NatashaDancing · 19/10/2023 05:31

I'd rather freeze than wear either of those coats.

Why are you in the thread then? You don’t have to give an opinion on every S&B thread you know.

McIntire · 20/10/2023 09:01

I suspect those criticising these practical coats are the type who get in their 4x4s for the school run at the slightest hint of a chill in the air or drizzle and they certainly don’t do ‘mud’

You'd be wrong.

CharlotteRumpling · 20/10/2023 10:14

Nobody will think you look ridiculous, OP. Plenty of people wear these, including young trendy DD. She's very slim and feels the cold.

The only reason I don't is because I have an inner radiator and take the Tube.

CatNoBag · 20/10/2023 10:21

I bought a duvet coat a couple of years ago in an end of winter sale. Didn't think I'd hardly ever wear it, just maybe for early morning outings when it was freezing or watching winter sports etc as I wasn't really keen on the style. Last year it SAVED me. I was ill for most of winter, quite delicate and not wanting anyone too get too close to me when I was out and this coat was like a warming hug and a cushion against the rest of the world at the same time. Even my husband loved it (I kept finding him napping under it 😂). I haven't dug it out from storage yet, but I'm really looking forward to being reunited with it, one of the few fond memories I have of a shitty time last winter.

Osakagirl · 20/10/2023 13:20

I managed to get this half price in the sale: https://www.didriksons.com/en/women/jackets/winter-jackets/li-women-s-parka-3-504490-300
I travel to Eastern Europe for work a lot and it is AMAZING.

Zooeyzo · 20/10/2023 13:59

I find the footwear more important than the coat in keeping warm. If your feet are cold then the coat makes no difference.
I bought a long puffa from next a couple of years ago and wear it with snow boots. So toasty

Osakagirl · 20/10/2023 14:19

You're right. I work with lots of people from the Midwestern USA and they all swear by knee high socks and a second pair of thicker ankle socks under a good pair of boots. Makes a massive difference.

tillytoodles1 · 20/10/2023 16:22

At 5'3" and a size 20, I'd look like a walking hot water tank.
