Was on the MN email but I deleted it in a fit of tidyness!

Its a full length coat that was described as being like wearing a sleeping bag......iirc was about £130.

Thanks!

As a fellow 50ish, skinny woman I have been hunting for the elusive 'warm, lightweight and waterproof' coat for ever. I've had a North Face parka, not warm enough so that's going on eBay. Nike long padded coat, not warm enough so that's going it's sister on eBay. I thought a DryRobe would be the solution but no. That's already gone. I was thinking that maybe I'd just buy an actual duvet and fashion a coat out of it. I like the ASOS one though - does anyone have it? Is it the warmest coat ever?

Polyester is never as warm as natural down, as long as you’re not vegan.

I’m similar aged, skinny and cold and I have a Marmot Montreaux which is 700 fill down. If you need it to be waterproof rather than water resistant you would need the Chelsea. I’ve never been cold since I bought it.

Holland Cooper do some too but theirs have feathers as well as down.

OMG what a parade of hideosity! When did good wool coats go out of fashion? Not that I care, I'll be wearing mine till I drop.

I have both. In fact I have several winter coats but they’re nothing like as warm as down and much smarter thus not so good for walking on the heath.

Here’s one that’s a bit different

Why,,that. Coat is just darling and once I figured out how to put it on I wouldn’t be able to see the looks of envy and stunned admiration it would pull.

years ago when I was at school they banned the wearing of parkas as once the fur trimmed hood was zipped up you couldn’t see traffic and unfortunately a couple of boys got fatally Injured

LadyBird1973 · 19/10/2023 16:11

I bought the Next version of this last winter. Just a word of warning - don't buy a green version. I look like a giant glow worm. I still wear it though Grin
Sometimes it's so cold out that I just don't care. I like the white one from Superdry - wish I'd bought that one

Loooper · 19/10/2023 17:09

Wash it, it will be fine. When it comes out of the machine it will be completely flat, but don’t panic. Hang it to dry and them put it in the dryer on a low heat for a bit. The down will puff up again and it’ll be grand. I’ve washed mine several times.

Loooper · 19/10/2023 17:11

Sorry, that was in reply to @VeronicaBeccabunga

If this was me , my DD would say my subconscious was saving me from myself .

When I pick up something from the M&S sale and say “what are you doing on the Sale Rail?” She calmly prises it from my clammy hands and says “there’s a reason it’s there” and firmly replaces it.

Damn her good sense 🤭

@lemonyfox — it looks very cosy and comfortable with plenty of room to move, but I couldn't bring myself to wear it… it gives me powerful "off lost 3st 12lb on the cayenne custard diet and just look at her now!" vibes, and at my weight I really can't pull off an "after" look Grin

I've got a nicer version of this that I bought in Copenhagen when we lived there and in black- except mine has shape!! Good stuff -- i will be trendy this winter!!

I'd like it with a bit more shape! What is the brand? @Crikeyalmighty

SheilaWilde · 19/10/2023 18:37

Thanks @Mirabai** I'll have a look.

Is it warm? Or does it feel like it will be?

Oh no! Looking like a glow worm is entirely the point!

I spent a shameful sum on a niche German puffer coat a couple of years ago and it's full on larva looking. Bloody love it.

I got this last year , you can pull the back waist in for a bit of shape
It's very warm , just got it out again for this year

Crikey! The price is even worse now! Pretty sure I paid a hundred quid less than that two years ago.

lemonyfox · 19/10/2023 18:48

@SheilaWilde yes! It's fully fleece inside (it's reversible actually so you can wear it fleece-side out too). But because it's so big I'm hoping it won't be that suffocating warmth because it's all loose and flappy. I'm not explaining it very well but hopefully you know what I mean...

lemonyfox · 19/10/2023 18:50

@off I know what you mean! But I still love it

off · 19/10/2023 19:02

Oh it's entirely my own hangup lemony, I'm glad you love it!

dawngreen · 19/10/2023 20:01

I thought you meant the one that ppl wear that acts as a sit down bean bag type seat! 😂

TimeForBedSaidZebadee · 19/10/2023 20:57

I hate those coats. My mum has a cream one that dd and I call her maggot coat, because that's what it looks like when it's zipped up fully.
Sorry, I'll go now 😀

I have this: https://www.landsend.co.uk/Womens_Hooded_Maxi_Down_Coat/pp/P_39703.html?dwvar_P__39703_sizeVariation=59&dwvar_P__39703_color=DSO&cgid=11312

It’s lovely and warm, and you can unzip it from the bottom for walking around.

I've got two of these. Love them and they are super warm. I do size up as I like to wear layers and want to lessen the feeling of being in a cocoon and also to provide even more warmth - taking into account very cold weather. I love the length. 🌹

DragonflyLady · 19/10/2023 21:15

@lemonyfox what does the non-fleecy side feel like?

HappyHedgehog247 · 19/10/2023 21:22

Didrickson. They should pay me commission. I'm always cold. Except in my Didrikson coats.

Brodpit · 19/10/2023 21:48

@HappyHedgehog247 Where do you buy your Didrikson coats? I’ve only ever bought them second hand for the children but considering treating myself…
