Was on the MN email but I deleted it in a fit of tidyness!

Its a full length coat that was described as being like wearing a sleeping bag......iirc was about £130.

Thanks!

Word of caution: I thought my Uniqlo coat was washable, but it says 'hand wash only, do not spin, do not tumble dry, do not dry clean'

I imagine trying to wash this vast bag of feathers and it hanging about all soggy and never getting dry again.

I may have to replace it simply because it's dirty.

My shorter polyester filled jacket washes and tumbling dry with tennis balls or those wool dryer balls makes it good as new.

Once it's reached replacement territory, surely there's nothing to lose at that point by bunging it on the gentlest wash cycle your machine can muster and leaving it flat on a towel on your bed to dry, or something, and seeing what happens? I've never washed a feather thing, so this is just a guess.

(Frankly, my washing machine has the inexhaustible patience required to slowly and gently diddle at a delicate clothing item floating in lukewarm water without ever going "oh fuck it" and wringing the thing that I sadly lack.)

All these big coats are bloody awful! 😫

bronkie · 19/10/2023 10:06

Surely this duvet coat is nothing different from the thousands of them that have been floating about the past few winters?

shazshaz · 19/10/2023 10:12

I got one last year by TOG24. It's the Raleigh Insulated jacket. Calf length and kept me cozy warm and dry all through last winter. They're on sale at the moment for £90 on the Debenhams website & usually retail for £150 ish

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 19/10/2023 10:20

That Asos one doesn’t have a hood! Duveted from neck to ankle with a cold head.

I got a full length puffa last year. I love it.

Goldmember · 19/10/2023 10:30

I have a joules elberry long coat (from ebay outlet store). I love it, so warm. Like wearing a sleeping bag on the school run.

Exactly. I thought this would be something completely different. I remember seeing the adverts for Uniqlo 15 years ago probably more for their down filled full length coats.

i have the Superdry Fuji full length coat. It had thinner bands of filling so a neater finish. Not glamorous but warm. I bought a Fuji jacket for DD the year before ( I did check with her that she wanted it ).
fill is recycled bottles not feather/down.

Here’s one that’s a bit different

I am not fashionable at all!!

I bought one from Next 2 years ago and my friends took the mick out of me! Now two of them have bought one, as it's in fashion!

I cant believe I am head of the times.

I'd rather freeze than wear either of those coats.

Luckily nobody is asking you to wear it so you don't need to worry about that, but OP does want to wear one hence why she's asked

liveforsummer · 19/10/2023 11:12

I have a fab one from Zara. Worth's look. They always seem to have good coats

Not when you have to spend hours of the day stood outside in a Scottish winter they aren't 😆

Nat6999 · 19/10/2023 11:15

M & S have one like that.

Which for me is an asset. Plenty of warm scarves and hats - hoods get in the way of my vision on a scooter.

I have several of the Land End down/feather duvet (and other) coats and gilets in different styles bought over the years and still going strong. I do wash them (gentle liquid laundry detergent on the dirtiest parts, usually pockets), delicate programme, and spin. Then in the dryer with tennis balls in to fluff up the filler and then hung up to fully dry. 🌹

SheilaWilde · 19/10/2023 11:54

As a fellow 50ish, skinny woman I have been hunting for the elusive 'warm, lightweight and waterproof' coat for ever. I've had a North Face parka, not warm enough so that's going on eBay. Nike long padded coat, not warm enough so that's going it's sister on eBay. I thought a DryRobe would be the solution but no. That's already gone. I was thinking that maybe I'd just buy an actual duvet and fashion a coat out of it. I like the ASOS one though - does anyone have it? Is it the warmest coat ever?

Nat6999 · 19/10/2023 12:38

Seasalt have a long duvet type coat, but it is over £200.

I don’t know why it says don’t tumble dry, that’s exactly what you do with a down coat. I wash mine and then dry on a low heat with balls to refluff.

Mirabai · 19/10/2023 14:57

(I don’t have a Uniqlo one though).

ShagratandGorbag4ever · 19/10/2023 14:58

OMG what a parade of hideosity! When did good wool coats go out of fashion? Not that I care, I'll be wearing mine till I drop.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 19/10/2023 15:00

I can’t wear wool I’m allergic to it. And it’s not as warm as down.

I have both. The wool looks better but is heavier, not as practical and dry clean only.

I don’t need to look fashionable or stylish on my evening walk.

IWasFunBeforeMum · 19/10/2023 15:06

Despite its length I bet not warm all all. All of these modern coats are just crap materials unless north face, walking/hiking brands etc.
