I did do a search, but the MN search is shit.

So, I would like a new dressing gown.
Criteria:

  • thick
  • long (I'm tall)
  • pockets
  • fleece or very soft towelling
  • I like cornflower blue, dusty pink, sage green
  • classic dressing gown with a tie belt, not a sack with a zip.
  • hood optional
  • about £70 max

The ones I've seen in M&S and Tu look and feel lovely, but are so thin.

Have a look at Long Tall Sally. Their dressing gowns are great. My friend has one and I am getting one for Christmas.

I searched everywhere last year for a good thick dressing gown and ended up with a men’s one from Dunelm. No women’s one came close!

The colour is a bit disappointing this year, but if you can get past that, it’s super warm and properly thick. I’m 5’8 size 10 and got a small. It comes down below my knees and is quite oversized but not huge.

Elements Mens Sherpa Robe | Dunelm

Perfect as a gift this luxurious and elegant dressing gown is stylish and cosy. This dressing gown features two deep pockets with sherpa detailing, a self-tie belt and sherpa lining. Available in men's sizes small, medium and large.

shame you've found the M&S ones thin DH and I both have lovely ones that have lasted for years but they are from more expensive M&S ranges, mine was a Rosie one and DHs was an Autograph one, both really thick and long.

I just bought one from Tesco and it ticks all the boxes on your list of requirements. I am so happy with it, it's incredibly soft and thick.

I think the issue is that quality has decreased. M&S used to be great but less so these days IMO.

I got one from asda last year. Think it was about £14. The cosiest, warmest dressing gown I've ever owned. Don't know a about this year's stock, but worth a look online.

Elektra1 · 17/10/2023 18:09

Christy do a nice cornflower blue towelling one for about £60

Wbeezer · 17/10/2023 18:39

@CharlotteBog DHs is only a couple of years old, but l I don't think you'd find the nice colours you want in the man's dept! The woman's ones are always less substantial, it's as though they expect us to buy new ones every year and men to keep theirs for decades, annoying.

I love my Ted Baker grey plush dressing gown. I am actually more attached to it than is probably normal or advisable Blush

I bought an Oodie one last year: theoodie.co.uk/collections/oodie-robes I got the avocado one.

It's AMAZING!

I consider myself a dressing gown connoisseur and this is by far the best one I've ever had. I'm actually contemplating getting a second one because I grieve when it's in the wash.

enidblythe · 18/10/2023 06:33

I have a Rosie from m and S hooded king thick one - sized up to get it longer and wrapped. It s thick has pockets and a hood.
It s soft and cosy.
However from about 3/4 years ago.
I think the quality of clothing and materials has really reduced in recent years (ans price gone up)
Haven't looked at the current offerings but it a disappointing to hear they seem light.

Mummyoflittledragon · 18/10/2023 07:04

I get my dressing gowns from long tall sally. They’re floor length on me. Sadly the quality has diminished in recent years. They used to be so thick. But the current ones are still warm.

beetr00 · 17/10/2023 16:41

Wow, they are long. Floor length on the 5'11" model would be too long for me! They do look lovely though.

I didn't think of looking at Oodie - I thought they only did the classic Oddie.
They have some nice designs and I like the cuffed sleeves.
Thank you.

I have the M&S furry one in light blue and now in grey. It feels thin but is really warm and very soft, and I love it. After a year of almost daily use it has lost its fluffiness a bit, particularly around the sleeves. I do wear it the entire time I am in the house over clothes though, and often sleep in it too, so for normal use would probably last longer.

I've also had the next one in the past, which was much warmer, and often too warm, but wraps strangely round the waist, so I never felt as comfortable with it, and it wasn't as long

CharlotteBog · 18/10/2023 08:59

Thanks all, lots to look at here.
It's good to know that gems can be found at Asda and Tesco - those are easier to try as well.

John Lewis or Rituals

TheOwlChronicles · 18/10/2023 09:14

I have just bought the White company unisex one. Very soft and a lovely putty colour. Only thing is, it's too long really - I'm only 5 foot 3 - annoying can't return it as I've worn it now.

So I think I'll keep it for wrapping up in straight out the bath and buy their knee length waffle robe instead!

But if you're wanting a longer length, they get my vote

funkylittleboatrace · 18/10/2023 09:33

I love my long Tall Sally dressing gown .. Because I’m not tall it goes way past my ankle and at times I do have to lift it up! I’ve had it nearly a year and it washes really well.
