I did do a search, but the MN search is shit.

So, I would like a new dressing gown.
Criteria:

  • thick
  • long (I'm tall)
  • pockets
  • fleece or very soft towelling
  • I like cornflower blue, dusty pink, sage green
  • classic dressing gown with a tie belt, not a sack with a zip.
  • hood optional
  • about £70 max

The ones I've seen in M&S and Tu look and feel lovely, but are so thin.

Have a look at Vinted. I got a lovely M and S one for £7. You can check out lengths etc from buyer.

I love my long Tall Sally dressing gown .. Because I’m not tall it goes way past my ankle and at times I do have to lift it up! I’ve had it nearly a year and it washes really well.

Oh god...I can just see me falling up the stairs with a too-long gown!
The ones I see on the website are floor length on the 5'11" models.

The Rosie range in Marks, I have had one for a couple of years and it's amazingly thick and soft. The link shows a red one, but if you look at all the Rosie dressing gowns, you will find other colours. Can't recommend it highly enough!

I got the White Company white towelling one for Christmas last year (non hood version). It's so good, washes well and I wear it everyday out of the shower (except on very hot days as it's so thick) - it still looks like new.

Op I saw one on Asda last week like you described.

A lady was trying it on and we had a chat about the zips and pockets and how good it was.

It was either pink or green pastel and it was long, zipped, had pockets and I think it had a hood also.

Might go and get myself one it's bitter out and it's only going to get colder

if you have the money to go up a notch from M&S, the white company have amazing dressing gowns.

Blimey, you chatted to a stranger in a shop. How very un-MN of you😛

That does sound cozy, but I really want a tie belt rather than a zip so that I can pull it really close to my body. That said, Asda is very good value so I will have a look. Thank you.

Try Cotton Traders. I bought a lovely thick fleecy dressing gown from there last winter and I noticed they were still selling them in their current catalogue too.

muddyford · 18/10/2023 15:51

I have a men's one from Lands End. Comes mid-calf, very thick, soft cotton towelling, good frontal overlap, nice long sash. It's probably the best one I have ever had. Mine is Aspen blue but the colours change each winter. There's 40% off at the moment.

The winner is this Oddie Robe
I shall report back (maybe with a photo of me all snug) when it arrives.

Yey!! So glad you went for an Oodie one. This may be my push to get a second one 😬

I think this is mine. I’m confused by the review befits fantastic. Mine is 2 years old and looks new.

HalfasleepChrisintheMorning · 18/10/2023 17:41

Because not befits

LuckyLerwick · 18/10/2023 17:42

Ooh, I've recently bought Oodie dressing gowns for all of us! It was the cuffed sleeve that did it for me - last year, I did not appreciate the cold draft coming up my sleeve in our arctic temperatures...the cuff eliminates that! I'm not a massive fan of the patterns, but I can overlook that in the search for draft free cosiness.

Crazykefir · 18/10/2023 18:14

If your tall buy a man's robe the quality will more than likely be better.

Rina66 · 21/10/2023 15:51

If you're handy with a sewing machine, you can buy the cuffing rib in lots of colours on Amazon for £6.99 (will easily do 2 cuffs) and attach it to the arm holes of your existing dressing gowns.

The John Lewis own brand ones are thick and soft.

This is genius! There are two limitations - my MIL threw out my sewing machine and I don't have an existing dressing gown! I do have a fleecy loungewear hoodie which would benefit from these, but I don't think the hoodie was much more than the cost of the cuffs. I will remember this though.
