Just looking for recommendations

The absolute collagen comes up on my SM a lot but the reviews are very mixed and £66 pm is not really ideal

TIA

I go by what I can see- stronger nails, re growth of eyebrows so far.

haveyouopenedyourbowelstoday · 05/11/2023 18:06

I've been taking marine collagen since January. My hairdresser always comments about how quickly it's grown and my nails are definitely stronger.

@androidnotapple how can people have results then?

Placebo effect is very powerful. You're paying a lot of money for something - you want to see it working.

wited · 05/11/2023 19:10

@androidnotapple my hairdresser didn't know and still commented on my hair being thicker and healthier. Not placebo effect for him.

Shamelessly place-marking

I don’t tip my hairdresser.

sadsedum · 05/11/2023 19:23

@43ontherocksporfavor this made me chuckle

43ontherocksporfavor · 05/11/2023 19:26

My eyebrows and nails are not being imagined.

Pezdeoro41 · 05/11/2023 19:27

Has anybody had any mood issues while taking it? I was taking Vital Proteins last year and liked it but then did start feeling like it was messing with my moods (and there is some research that suggests it can be a problem for some people). However I am also perimenopausal so it may have been a coincidence and I would quite to go back to it if possible!

Peri causing miseryitis?

Peri causing miseryitis?

How inappropriate

androidnotapple · 06/11/2023 14:31

Nope, just a wish to not see people wasting their money on non-evidence based quackery.

It absolutely works for my joints so I will keep taking it. Not sure about my skin but my nails are a lot stronger now. My hair is a lot thicker but that could be down to coloring over my now grey hair.

why are people taking collagen? Isn't a bit snake oil? genuine question as never really looked into it - always thought it was like face cream - makes you feel you are making a difference but really arent?

yup. it's expensive placebo, you pee it out.

43ontherocksporfavor · 06/11/2023 22:40

@317818we So far so good. Plumper skin, eyebrows regrown , nails very hard and no breakages for 5 weeks. They usually break every week. That’s why I’m taking it.

jillies · 07/11/2023 01:22

In fairness I do take a biotin supplement which may be as useless. I don't know if it makes any difference, as I also take high dose omega fish oil.

Collagen supplements though, I wouldn't bother. You're better trying to get it from your diet. Though on past threads people have said you may as well eat haribo sweets.

I don't think I have been. Androidnotapple has come to this thread to claim - more than once - that collagen doesn't work. It seems to be working for many on here, and I'm sure we're capable of making up our own minds, but fair enough. However to say that hairdressers would only say that someone's hair is looking thicker in order to get a tip is really pretty shit. Just allow the person to accept their compliment without being so bloody negative!

jillies · 07/11/2023 02:36

Fair enough. The collagen threads are usually more swayed in the other direction, and some of those collagen supplements can be expensive, so I think androidApple has only good intentions of helping. I also wanted to advise caution when I saw the thread.

I just didn't like the peri/miseryitis comment.

MetaverseMavis · 07/11/2023 03:29

Started and stopped a sub to Absolute Collagen in a week. Utterly foul smell and taste. But my skins looked magnificent for those few days. Watching with interest

garlictwist · 07/11/2023 05:21

I used to but it tastes so grim I just gave up. I also didn't notice any difference after three months of the stuff.

43ontherocksporfavor · 07/11/2023 06:55

Capsules have no flavour.

milkydress · 05/11/2023 07:40

I've just purchased "bulk" collagen from Amazon. Can't comment if effective yet. Anyone else tried this?

@milkydress I have been taking Bulk collagen for a while and rate it, good for skin and joints plus great source of protein. I notice when I don't take it.

jillies · 07/11/2023 10:42

I don't think you could possibly see a result, from any supplement, in less than a week as a pp says. It would take several weeks minimum to notice any potential difference, if not months.
