Just looking for recommendations

The absolute collagen comes up on my SM a lot but the reviews are very mixed and £66 pm is not really ideal

TIA

I started taking the H&B gummy pills a couple of months ago - they are for hair but have collagen in them. I have seen no difference on my hair, however my eyelashes look thicker.

I want to try the powders but like others have been put off by the taste of them before.

I taking Kollo marine collagen, and found it really helped my old aching knees! I'm a runner so was thinking about giving up, but this have given my joints a new lease of life. Skin and my fine hair have also improved.

Martinisarebetterdirty · 03/11/2023 20:54

I take ancient and brave daily in a coffee too. When I don’t I really notice my creaky hips and knees. I wouldn’t be without it, not sure of any skin or hair difference as I use tret and have thick hair anyway, but the difference in my joints is unbelievable.

somethinginthewater · 03/11/2023 21:24

Ancient & Brave - such a fine powder you don't even notice it on food. I took it for joint pain ( definitely worked) but within a week my skin was so different and my hair has improved so much as well.

I shall! Is there a particular brand or dose for the chlorophyll that you’d recommend please?

I started using the Kiki health one, but it was out of stock in holland and barrett, so I've been using this one for the past month and it seems just as good. I put 2 droppers worth in a glass of water first thing :)

There's a suspected link between collagen supplements and breast cancer metastasising. My mum died from breast cancer spreading so I wouldn't risk it personally. I do have a liquid collagen that works like a serum (superdrug)and that's good

Have you got information about that because I cant find any on googling (quick morning google)

43ontherocksporfavor · 04/11/2023 08:45

I had a Google too as DM had BC. It seems there is research needed. No link at the moment between taking collagen and BC just that collagen is more present in BC tumours.

janicegarvey · 04/11/2023 08:53

I used absolute collagen for about six months and it was good, I saw results but tasted awful and was expensive

But then I read in here collagen supplements were linked to a higher risk of cancer. not sure how true it is but it put me off, obviously

Hazel444 · 04/11/2023 09:35

There hasn’t actually been any studies on collagen supplements and breast cancer in humans as far as I could see on google scholar. Studies in mice showed that cancer could spread in mice with high natural levels of collagen XII. The supplements recommended on this thread are generally collagen 1.

I take Vital Proteins powder in coffee and can’t taste it really. Jennifer Aniston endorses it I think

I take this. I will keep trying, but tbh I haven't seen any effect.

loadsoftwonk · 04/11/2023 11:52

You are better off having skin booster and microneedling treatments.

But how would that help with aching joints, hair growth etc? I think most people take collagen for a variety of benefits not just for their facial appearance.

PortiaWithNoBreaks · 04/11/2023 17:47

I’ve been using Dose & Co marine powder since April and haven’t stopped as I noticed results really quickly.

I use it in my first coffee. There is a smell when you open the tub but i don’t taste it in my coffee.

i noticed fairly quickly less hair shedding, less hair in the plug hole after conditioning. Then my hairdresser asked me what I’d been doing to my hair when I saw him next so that validated my own experience.

It’s a good way to increase protein for few calories if that’s anyone’s concern.

Another brand that’s supposed to be tasteless is Correxiko.

androidnotapple · 04/11/2023 17:49

Tablet collagen will just go out in the urine.

43ontherocksporfavor · 04/11/2023 19:15

@androidnotapple how can people have results then?

I take Kollo marine Collagen. It comes in liquid form and has a peachy taste; I don't struggle with taking it at all. I got it on special offer, £40 for one month. I promptly cancelled subsequent deliveries as I decided that the normal price was going to be too much on an ongoing basis. I swiftly got an email with a '£40 per month for life' offer code. I still think it's too much though, and actually, it's £40 every 28 days.
If they follow it up with a £30 offer (doubt it!) then I'd consider continuing.
So, the moral of the story folks, if you go for Kollo, don't settle for the crazy non-discounted price!
It's early days for me. I've only been taking it for a week. So I'll see how it goes.

TheWelshposter · 05/11/2023 07:23

There are so many doses available that it's confusing. I have marine collagen that's 2400mg a dose but have just looked at that Hunter collagen and it's 10,000mg a dose! So is mine pretty much ineffective?

milkydress · 05/11/2023 07:40

I've just purchased "bulk" collagen from Amazon. Can't comment if effective yet. Anyone else tried this?

From what I can gather, 10g is the average daily dose for powdered collagen. To get the same dose in capsules would mean taking lots of them everyday.

One of the brands, can remember which, suggests a kind of loading phase for the first 4 weeks by taking powder and capsules then just continuing with powder. So that would be around 14,000 mg/day to start.

jillies · 05/11/2023 13:16

There's not enough research, and scientific evidence, to say that taking collagen like this helps. I wouldn't waste my time, personally.

Just in case that was missed
