Nigella Lawson's secret

Just watched Nigella Lawson (filmed in 2017): At my Table, and I have to say that she looks great! I haven't seen her recently, but what's her secret? Other than being incredibly wealthy. How can I get her look? Is she still looking fabulous at 60??

OP posts:
nearlywinteragain · 27/09/2023 23:15

Her photographs of her in her youth suggest she was stunning, I feel this helps.

therealcookiemonster · 27/09/2023 23:15

@Adreno yes I am. addiction is a disease and how can we help people if we are busy judging them? we can accept an action is wrong without judging the person.

also as far as i know, she is recovered now and her initial use started when her husband was terminally ill.

Hair extensions I suspect too, her hair is very thick for 60+

It's rare but not unheard of to still have lovely thick hair in your 60s. It's not necessarily extensions.

tbh I am finding this thread quite catty. here is a woman, who has found success, she is beautiful (not that her looks should matter), she has suffered tragedy, she is a mother, she inspires others (me certainly!) to eat good food, enjoy life etc. etc. as other women, we should be celebrating her, not tearing her down. she might have had some work done, if that makes her happy it's none of our business. she developed a drug habit, yes - again not for us to pass judgement.

I mean, the OP asked specifically about her looks, not her cooking. This is the style and beauty board, not food/recipes.

I don't think people are being catty, just speculating on a women who is a public figure and seems to have had work done. Interestingly, it coincided with her marrying Charles Saatchi, she seemed to undergo a bit of a makeover.

Also, she definitely utilised her looks and style in some of her previous shows, heavily relying on a sort of demure innuendo. Not that that's a bad thing, but I don't believe she was unaware of the persona that she was portraying and how it came across.

Missmillymollymandy · 27/09/2023 23:26

She has in the past described herself as an “aquaholic”, drinking huge amounts of water throughout the day even admitting that she was warned by her doctor of the risks.
I always assumed her beautiful skin might be due to this.

mrssmiling · 27/09/2023 23:28

I’ve used the skin oil she recommends - not too expensive and it does make
a difference. 😀

I met her 6 years ago, at the time of the series discussed. I agree with a previous poster re her skin and figure. She had lost weight at this time and was slimmer than she had been previously. Close up her skin was exquisite. Very white with the faintest trace of a line on her forehead. She also had light freckles. This was not long after the Charles Saatchi court case where she had been photographed heavily made up and looking like she had fillers. When I met her she looked natural and beautiful and had stunning bone structure.

FiddleLeaf · 28/09/2023 00:04

She always covered up in the sun too

I'm 59 and have very thick dark hair same as both parents and although I have it dyed it looks very healthy and glossy and I get lots of compliments about it. My mother is in her 80's and has very thick hair.

The only advantage of being overweight is the fat has minimised the lines so I look a bit younger though the rest of my is clapped out.

I think Nigella looks great.

@MissLucyEyelesbarrow awww look at you trying to patronise me with assumptions about my mental state and weight, how lovely.

Well that is not how your initial post came across. you simply stated that she is heavier than other celebs of her age cohort. and heavy is a negative term when used in reference to the female body.

my point, if I wasn't clear is commenting on women's bodies (unless you are someone helping that individual become healthier) is neither pleasant, nor helpful.

Bollocks. 'Heavier than' is not a negative term when used in relation to bodies. It depends entire on what the comparator is.

Ladybirdbookworm · 28/09/2023 00:22

I’m ordering that GOW prickly pear oil.

greenhydrangea · 28/09/2023 01:52

Is she still looking fabulous at 60??

She is now 63 and still looking as gorgeous as ever.

Pottomous2 · 28/09/2023 01:59

Her parents were wealthy and famous and this allowed her to do a job of her choosing in entertainment and cooking. What worries does that woman have apart from how many eggs to buy?!

DeeCeeCherry · 28/09/2023 02:17

She has curves, and clearly is not trying to be a string bean so her face hasn't dropped. Nice hair, and looks healthy. I've seen her once in real life - if she does have botox and fillers then she's looking very well on it so must have gone for subtle enhancement rather than full-on. So she won't look 'overdone'. She's an attractive woman who knows how to make the most of herself. & of course, having lots of money to buy the best skincare helps

SpuytenDuyvil · 28/09/2023 02:41

She never goes in the sun without suncream, hats and long-sleeved coverups

It is common knowledge that her sister and mother died young from cancer. When her children were small her first husband, the journalist John Diamond, died from throat cancer. He was ill for a long time and wrote a weekly Times column on his treatment which included having his tongue removed. His work was later published in a book. For a while in the Saturday Times magazine there would be Nigella's makeup column and his cancer column. Her late husband John could be seen in the background of her early series, but he was so ill that he was unable to eat her food.
I would argue that all the wealth and position in the world wouldn't protect her from the heartbreak of the premature deaths of her husband, sister and mother and leaving her small children without a father. I think she has had more worries and heartbreak than many of us.

Netaporter · 28/09/2023 03:35

I met her about 20-odd years ago before her tv series here really took off. Her hair was absolutely gorgeous and incredibly thick. Extensions were not a thing back then. I very much doubt she has them now. She was very beautiful then (and is now) and her skin was luminous.

I agree with pp, good skin care, sun avoidance, great diet and a dollop of great genes.

Tara24 · 28/09/2023 03:39

She's naturally beautiful.. That's her secret.

I love Nigella..she's fab
.

Kat126 · 28/09/2023 05:04

Being naturally strikingly beautiful.

Good genes. (Her mother was the same.)

Never seen her with a tan.

Having a fuller figure. (I remember thinking how my wrinkles seemed to have disappeared at certain points in my life. Turns out I’d also gained weight and had plumper cheeks…) And that’s not an insult before anyone sensitive/looking for an argument says so - it is part of why she is so attractive!

Maintaining a similar ish weight and avoiding yo-yo dieting over the years which can show in the face with age.

A fairly Mediterranean diet much of the time perhaps. Nigella has said she loves Italian-inspired cooking as shown in some of her books, series etc. She isn’t afraid of oil and butter. I truly believe it moisturises from the inside out. My skin also looks best when I’ve eaten more oily fish than usual.

She has probably had fillers and/or Botox. It looks like she has as her cheeks have that roundness and she’s in the public eye where little enhancements are more common. A huge part of her identity as a cook was her sex appeal - it’s not really a thing now, yes - so I wouldn’t be surprised if looking after herself included a little enhancement. But if she has, it’s very well done.

Good lighting too on her shows!

I bloody love Nigella, her innuendoes and inimitable descriptions of food.

omgsally · 28/09/2023 07:54

She's also had her teeth done and her lips. Her lips were already a fabulous shape but she's had them tweaked a bit and teeth make an enormous difference to your overall look. She's stunning beautiful though and working from a very good starting point. She's not exactly polishing a turd 😁

TheMurderousGoose · 28/09/2023 10:27

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 27/09/2023 21:07

I hope this doesn't sound catty, because it's not meant to be, but one factor is that she is a bit heavier than 90% of female celebs. And she looks so much better for it.

I don't think your comment sounded in any way catty.

HeadNorth · 28/09/2023 10:31

I think being born beautiful is her secret. All the wealth and surgery in the world wouldn’t make me look like Nigella because the raw materials aren’t there.

HotMamaSauce · 28/09/2023 10:36

I'd also take coke if I'd been through what she's been.
Her secret is being actually properly beautiful, body and face.

Whilst I accept the general point about good genes, money and privilege, Nigella has been dealt a worse hand than many:

She lost her mum young

Her relationship with her mum wasn't the best. I read an interview where she talked wabout it and it sounded traumatic and heartbreaking TBH

Her sister died very young of cancer

Again her husband died of cancer leaving her a young widow with two young children

Her next husband was abusive

Her relationship, lifestyle and admin/ finances were discussed by all and sundry as a result of a court case

Plenty to worry about there i think!
