So glad you like the socks @faustina and belated Happy Birthday 🎉.

I am so sorry to hear about your horrid experience. I would definitely follow up your email complaint with Toast head office, unless you get a grovelling apology, preferably accompanied by a gift!

It’s an appalling way to treat anyone, much less a customer! My sister, (who also posts on here occasionally), has also had rudeness about mending, so they do have form.

(I had a bit of an unpleasant experience in the SM store myself last time, but that’s a different story.)

TBH, I have always been quietly surprised when people on here have praised the friendliness/helpfulness of Toast staff - it’s not always been my experience, sadly.

Please make sure that you do something lovely this week to try to make up for your birthday joy being interrupted x

faustina · 18/10/2023 14:26

@PretLea - yes I hadn't seen that person before. I often see on MN people saying they go into expensive shops and get treated like dirt but it's never ever happened to me before ( I've been in way more expensive shops before and everyone has been delightful)

faustina · 18/10/2023 14:39

@Dee1224 - thank you. I've never had a bad experience in a Toast shop before - they've always been friendly and helpful, and I've never tried the mending service before either - I'm sorry to hear your sister has had a problem too - especially ironic as they're doing interviews with happy customers on their insta feed right now about their most cherished Toast pieces, and making such a big deal about mending etc

Storm Babet dependant, I'm meeting up with DS2 in London on Friday and we will be doing lots of lovely things including another birthday piercing, a visit to Diptyque where they shower you with friendliness (and free candles on your birthday) and Liberty to spend my birthday voucher that they send me each year. I might also pop into a Toast to try the pull on cords with the crotch which comes halfway down the legs - they looked so nice on Instagram! - but I will never go to my local Toast again.

Saurus72 · 18/10/2023 14:41

@faustina So sorry you had such a bad experience - I’ve been similarly treated like a PITA when I returned something to that store and they wouldn’t give me a receipt or acknowledgment of the return. You just have to trust that you will be refunded with zero proof. It’s a horrible feeling when you’re treated like a nuisance or like you’re trying to do something unreasonable. IRL shopping is not something I really like anymore which is not something I ever thought I’d say.

It looks like the new pieces are on the website - if you search for ‘dresses’ it brings up some lovely new ones. Sadly nothing for me because I don’t want sleeveless but they are lovely.

Zeusrules · 18/10/2023 14:52

@faustina that sounds awful, Cambridge is my local store and I've had mixed experiences and now only use the York store when visiting my daughter. The staff there are truly lovely.

faustina · 18/10/2023 14:52

@Saurus72 - I'm sorry you've also had rubbish experiences. I went to John Lewis before Toast, for some nice nail polish but was also looking at towels and it was bristling with security guards all looking very grim faced. It was not a nice experience either, but at least the sales assistants were polite. I know they're having problems with shoplifting, but there must be a balance where you feel a bit welcome? Otherwise who's ever going to want to go anywhere?

ilovecherries · 18/10/2023 15:04

It’s absolutely horrible when someone in a shop treats you like that, I m not surprised you were upset.

MiracleToast · 18/10/2023 15:34

@faustina Happy birthday and I so hope you enjoy wonderful treats from the other stores to make up for such shocking treatment.

Its reminded me of when I was in the midst of a traumatic breakup and I went to LK Bennett with the intention of some serious retail therapy and the staff there were so horrible to me—like literally laughing and ignoring me whilst looking me up and down. I was in tears and fled and found my way to Biscuit where they couldn’t have been nicer and I treated myself well. Very pretty woman moment. I find it so strange that people treat other humans this way—like customer service aside—what’s happened to their humanity?

Good on you for emailing a complaint. I hope Toast pay attention. Imagine having the biggest Toasties avoiding their local stores? That is not good.

Sending loads of love and birthday wishes 💖

Countmeout · 18/10/2023 15:35

Sorry that happened @faustina . Not very nice at all.

Your day in London sounds as though it will be really lovely. Please report back on the cords if you can.

The new drop (I’ve had a quick whizz) has the ‘Nicky’ top in a silk linen mix and I adore the shape but that canvas colour does nothing for me. So I’ve passed on that. Please note Toast I want it in green or white.

However I’ve bought 2 sizes in this hoping it’s not too padded and makes me look like a top heavy pudding.

The washing instructions or lack of are confusing.

faustina · 18/10/2023 15:52

@MiracleToast - that's absolutely horrible what happened to you. If I ever used LK Bennet (which I don't) I'd boycott them in your honour. Honestly, I grew up in London and had a million summer/saturday jobs in some very very expensive stores and I would never have dreamt of being rude. You should be able to go anywhere whoever you are, and expect to be treated with respect. Good for Biscuit! And thank you for the birthday wishes.

On the way home I saw someone wearing a really lovely jacket and made a point of telling her how pretty it was, as a way of cancelling out the shitness of the day. (it was really lovely - a distressed leather peacoat with the David Bowie rise and fall album cover on the back)

MiracleToast · 18/10/2023 15:54

@faustina nice way to not let it lower your vibration and instead uplift someone else ✨✨✨

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 18/10/2023 16:45

@faustina what a miserable experience on your birthday, hopefully London will be much better. Really interested to hear what you think of the drop crotch cords, I still haven't ordered as I was waiting for the new drop - off to have a look through now.

@PretLea I do like those cords but I also think these are a lovely green. I should be near a seasalt shop in a couple of weeks so I will probably drop in and see what they've got in store.

dudsville · 18/10/2023 17:13

Happy birthday @faustina, how awful to have an experience like that on your birthday. I can imagine it would really have taken the wind out of your sails. Hope you did something nice as well?

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 18/10/2023 17:21

I don't think there's much for me on that drop - too much sleeveless and dry clean. I do like these though, I'm assuming they're pull on.
I also keep seeing those Birkenstock clogs on all the models, now tempted by those, especially the oiled leather. Never had a pair of Birkenstocks before.

Yes @Countmeout definitely weird 'washing' instructions, I think Toast need to clarify.

ScottishMouse · 18/10/2023 17:26

I like those too @Theteapotsbrokenspout I saw the men’s version in store the other day and wished there was a women’s version, so I may need to try them.
@faustina that is a horrible experience. I have found the staff in my local store to mostly be lovely, but there are a couple of exceptions.
I can’t see anything from the new drop. Even scrolling through the different sections (dresses, trousers, etc), I don’t see anything new. How is everyone seeing the new stuff?

Stravaig · 18/10/2023 17:31

@faustina 🥳🥂🎈🎶🎂🎉🎁🎷💃🪩

Saurus72 · 18/10/2023 17:32

@Theteapotsbrokenspout Also really like those trousers but only at sale price because they would just be wfh trousers for me. Lovely.

Stoic123 · 18/10/2023 17:43

@faustina - so sorry to hear about that. Rotten service. Happy Belated Birthday and hope you enjoy your new socks x

I've also found the Cambridge shop frosty and, like @Zeusrules, find
everyone at the York shop (my local one) extremely friendly and helpful. Mixed experience in London shops - better than Cambridge but not as nice as York.

I have a couple of pairs of the Seasalt Asphodel Cords and prefer them to my Toast cord trousers.

ScottishMouse · 18/10/2023 17:52

Thanks @Saurus72 , they all seem to have appeared now.
I like the buttonless cardigan a lot. It looks similar to a light grey one I have from a couple of years ago with a cable pattern down the sleeve. I would have a hard time choosing between those colours though.
I also like the mohair mix sweater with the yoke pattern, though I would want to see the fabric in person, I don’t usually love mohair.
What do we think of the dress in that same ikat fabric as the trousers? I like the idea of a dress in that fabric, but I’m not sure about the neckline/ chest area.

PretLea · 18/10/2023 17:53

Sorry again @faustina.

@Theteapotsbrokenspout I do like the forest green of those too, but not keen on such a tapered leg for cords right now. @Stoic123 I’m really hoping the Asphodel ones I have coming will fit, as I have high hopes of getting more colours.

The same Sea Salt assistant was wearing the cotton landing top, with the roll neck more ruffled and not folded down like on the website. Looked lovely under one of their jumpers.

I really like the look of the mohair fair isle sweaters from the new drop - the grey/yellow one is gorgeous. Not sure about caring for mohair though.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 18/10/2023 18:01

I really like the dress as well @ScottishMouse but going through my wardrobe I've got so many dresses that I've only worn once I really don't need any more. Trousers, though, I can always justify.

PretLea · 18/10/2023 19:04

@OftenOrange What is the fit like of the alpaca waistcoat please, if you might know?

faustina · 18/10/2023 19:31

Thank you all for the birthday wishes and kindness which I really appreciate - and wow - not just me with bad experiences in Cambridge then? I hope someone from their head office reads this. We shouldn't all feel this way, should we? Being nice isn't rocket science

I am off to look at the new things although I realised today I have three jackets and three coats totally unworn (because I've bought since last winter). I'll have to make a point of a different top layer every day!

@PretLea I've had mohair from Brora and it's always been fine so long as it's dried flat

QueenJaineApproximately · 18/10/2023 19:38

Happy belated birthday @faustina . Hope you had a lovely day in London. 😊
