Morning all! Inspired by pottery chat, I have dug out my Midwinter - a few small coffee cups and saucers from the Nature Study collection. I like china bits and bobs and have a mix of collected and inherited items, but haven’t any room to display it properly. These cups are too small for me to use for actual drinking but I am reluctant to sell.

I have also dug out a couple of pretty teacups and saucers that were buried behind years of detritus and have promised myself to start using them!

Re: Toast - did anyone see that a painted skirt xs from the new collection has appeared on EBay? It’s at a very good starting price, in case anyone is interested. (Far too small for me🙃)

Laska2Meryls · 09/10/2023 10:52

Im bidding on some space check shorts atm ( hopefully not against any of you!)

Dee1224 · 09/10/2023 11:08

I am off EBay toast atm @Laska2Meryls - my last purchase was not a success 🙃

@Clarice99 can't see the dress you mean but I wear dresses in cooler weather with knit polonecks underneath and/or a neutral (tonal or contrasty, not matchy) cardigan over the top. For my tastes, the cardigan needs to be oversized and either longline or cropped, and not possibly describable as dainty or classic, otherwise it can get a bit....Brora. 😁I generally look at MH/MHL or COS/Arket(sorry, high st) for this type of thing. I like these current Toast ones, dropped shoulder and roomy sleeves so ideal for layering. Similar, I have a previous year's version of this Me+em boxy which has been useful.

Our Wool Cashmere Cardigan is crafted from a soft wool and cashmere blend. It has a wide neckline and dropped sleeves.

That shirt is stupendous on you @OftenOrange
Also loving your checked one in the hcnerF-tuck @dudsville Which should totally be a thing especially for the arsier figure😁I'm currently thinking of sewing a shirt with this kind of feature built in (pattern).
@PretLea please report back if you try &Daughter, I've been eyeing their stuff for a while.

Loving the homewares chat! Like @faustina I'm a devotee of L&W/OOU and feel v. smug when they start stocking something I already own. Would like to claim kinship with fellow toasties in appreciating Nordic ceramics but must admit my collection of iittala was primarily driven by the fact that they have Moomins on. 😅

clowniform · 09/10/2023 11:51

Argh I linked the wrong pattern. It's like that shirt but in reverse (shorter back), I blame Monday.

dudsville · 09/10/2023 11:53

Thanksfor the reassurance that the reverse french tuck is OK and should be A Thing, and @clowniform "Which should totally be a thing especially for the arsier figure" is that why i think it works? That's very helpful! I will now adopt this as standard.

I had to pop a jumper over it in a rush to get out, enjoying the combination.

I'll have a Google of these other midwinter styles, I love this stuff. Used to have more but I wasn't using them.

dudsville · 09/10/2023 11:54

I like that pattern @clowniform, it is the shorter back one that you've linked to.

Stravaig · 09/10/2023 13:13

@clowniform 'arsier figure' 😍

@dudsville Somehow not paying attention I'd decided a French tuck was just fancypants jargon for 'part tucked in/rest hanging out' - which halves (or quadrants) being entirely optional. To me, you are doing it exactly right.

@BettinaInDenmark Those greens showcased at Himla! 💚

Enjoying all the china pattern chat!

@agnesmartin reporting back on the sleeveless denim dress … and it’s a firm no from me!

I’m a size 12/14 IRL, and normally a size 10/12 in my Toast life.

Pros - the neckline was lovely, and the top-half/ bodice fitted beautifully and looked 👌with silk or woven cotton blouses/tops underneath (not so good with jersey as the two fabrics clung together), and the colour and weight of the fabric was good.

Cons - the waist was too low for me ( but I am short waisted) and without much shaping so it sort of hung from my chest at the front and my enormous generous ample ( easier to say arsier!) rear at the back - not a flattering look 👀 😅. It was a bit too long, but it could have been taken up without losing the proportions.

so, all a bit disappointing really, but … I also ordered a pair of Annie jeans and they’re fab! Was tempted to wear them straight away, but dogs would have rendered them fit only for the wash in 5 seconds - now the rain has gone we’re wallowing in mud.

agnesmartin · 09/10/2023 17:46

@No1Mousie Thanks so much for letting me know how it went! Really appreciate that. Such a shame it didn't suit. I have a longer body but also large boobs so probably not going to work for me either.

Inspired by this (thank you all) and other threads I'm trying to figure out what suits me and think of outfits and silhouettes vs items as I sit on my hands while I 🤞🏼lose weight. Bloody covid has paused this!

I've put together a longish list of Toast to see on the FB page when I perk up and get organised. Then my fingers might inch towards the mousepad once again, hopefully they'll have added some bits and pieces by then ...

Oh and thanks whoever recommended Scarlet Knitwear. Beautiful colours and patterns and am sure a snood and maybe a hat will be heading my way in the not too distant future. 🙏🏼

dudsville · 10/10/2023 12:38

I've got before and after pics of the neckline of the ticking stripe linen dress that I took in for alteration. He did a great job of keeping the style of the original hem. It's a minimal alteration but eases some of the severity on me. The other thing I might now do is take them hem to mid calf or below the knee, but I wanted to see the effect of this first. I think between these two changes it will no longer look like weird cosplay on me.

Stravaig · 10/10/2023 13:22

@dudsville Oh that looks fantastic! He'd done such a great job. I swerve so many dresses (and tops) because the neckline is too high for me.

Dee1224 · 10/10/2023 13:25

That looks so much better @dudsville

Brackenfield · 10/10/2023 13:53

I'm obsessively checking my RM tracking, ordered a few knitwear options as a birthday treat, but am second guessing my size choices and had hoped they'd arrive in time to return/swap before a holiday but seems not... I just want to be cosy in a Donegal sweater, despite the 20+ degrees...!

Countmeout · 10/10/2023 15:01

I’m in a swimsuit again after going to the Picasso museum in Malaga (wearing the Alder) Really cross as I lost an earring en route that I’d just got.
My triangle scarf is on it way and will be home before me. I went for the rust. I think last year the colour I wanted was sold out and that’s why I didn’t order.

That’s a fantastic job @dudsville . It looks really good.

clowniform · 10/10/2023 15:17

Renewed dress looks great @dudsville ! Refrains from describing it as born again

Fingers crossed for you @Brackenfield although envy at all this holidaying about you're all doing.

The Fracap monkey boots arrived in 37 and they are ok with tights but feel too narrow with the cosy thick socks I would prefer to style them with. Also the tongue rubs on my shinbone a bit when I walk... don't think I noticed this with the 38s in store. Wondering if I should order a new pair of 38s and put insoles in? Do insoles even help when shoes are too big lengthwise? Speak to me of shoe-lutions please, stop me from stuffing cotton wool in the toes of such beauties.

So much nicer. It’s odd how just tiny tweak can make a difference. I had a high slash neck made into a softer round shape recently and an inch taken off short sleeves so they no longer ended at my nipple-line and it transformed the dress

dudsville · 10/10/2023 15:27

Thanks @Dee1224. @Stravaig , he showed me a neat little trick that he used to identify how much the neckline could alter. I'll see if i can work out how to describe it.

Thanks@Countmeout , and that's a shame about the earring. I still recall an earring I lost in my youth, and a ring! Was it special?

"Refrains from describing it as born again" that made me laugh @clowniform ! Your shoe issue doesn't sound easily resolvable. Are you sure they're the shoes for you?

Another fingers🤞 for you @Brackenfield !

Stravaig · 10/10/2023 15:31

@clowniform Insoles will make things snugger at the narrowest part, usually the midsection, which will help stop you sliding toward the toes. The laces should hold you snugly though?

ps. I have narrow feet, and wear too large a size for wriggle room at the toes, and as long as the midsection is firmly fastened by straps or laces, I find them comfy. (I may be weird though :)

Dee1224 · 10/10/2023 15:31

Sorry you lost your earring @Countmeout. Is there any point trying to retrace your steps? (I did this in Tokyo, once - admittedly it was a bit of an odd thing to do but I am quite obsessive 🤣)

Brackenfield · 10/10/2023 15:44

The xrosses fingers worked! Some Gabbis in Loden (my first pair, inspired by the chat on here, and could prove expensive as they're very comfy) and the Donegal easy sweater in cinnamon. It's a touch brighter than it looks in the picture and the flecks through it are lovely.

Also ordered the Donegal yoke in Persimmon which is a gorgeous colour but a smidge too big so might keep an eye out if it appears in a sale as can't justify both jumpers.

faustina · 10/10/2023 16:04

@dudsville - that is a real transformation and an incredible trick to know about (I also have things I don't wear because the neck is too high)

@Brackenfield the jumper looks brilliant and even though it's about 26 here today, you're giving me good ideas for my own birthday present to myself

@Countmeout - is it the little scarf from Scarlet knitwear? I hope you love yours. I'm thinking of ordering another this winter. Hope you find your earring. I lose them so often I resorted to only buying labrets and even then I lose them!

We were both swanning around Malaga dressed as Toast trees today 😀. I was wearing my Elm dress. Sorry about your earring though, so annoying when that happens.

dudsville · 10/10/2023 17:07

😂 "dressed as toast trees!" @ilovecherries !
