Hi all, I work in a school, I need some winter boots/shoes that have good grip and that I can run in if need be ( I don’t want to be slipping and sliding on the grass) that are also super comfortable for all day wear.
Any advice is appreciated! Thank you!

The past few years I've been wearing pavers boots. Very slight wedge but are flat.

Come in a multitude of colours.

Warm and comfortable and have so far proved waterproof!

I got mine from next and have grey and red!

I'm on a pastoral role and can do 10k steps in a work day in or outside and my feet are always warm and dry and importantly - still in one piece! - at the end of the day

I'm a primary teacher and I wear trainers every day! Converse to be precise! 😂 Dress, leggings, converse 👌🏼

I'm in Scotland though, we seem more laid back with this stuff

Wish schools recognised how much stress we put on our feet and relaxed the dress code in relation to shoes! Your school sounds very sensible 🤩

I had to ask for permission and provide evidence for my school so that I could wear comfortable footwear. I have lederhosen's disease in both feet (and plantar fasciitis as well) which gives me incredible pain. Some days I can't even bear the tightness of socks the pain is so bad. I even had to ask for my chair to be given back to me, as our school brought in a new rule of 'teachers don't sit down' and took all our chairs out of the classrooms! I have to sit down sometimes as I'm in agony! Again, they said I needed to fetch in evidence of this need. My GP write a VERY thorough letter!

These are super thanks

It sounds as though you work at a similar school to my dd @Susuwatariandkodama.

Her feet ached so much after day after day on them, that she saw a podiatrist. A particular orthotic trainer was recommended which she wears all day, every day and they are waterproof. A pair lasted September to July last year and she's just ordered another.

She has to wear trousers due to the children's (up to 16) needs so smart and looks don't come into it.

pompomdaisy · 26/09/2023 07:01

Clarks every time for me.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/09/2023 07:06

Clarks or Seasalt here. Once I’m at work, I barely have time to wee or eat, let alone faff around changing shoes in the day.

Susuwatariandkodama · 26/09/2023 07:26

Thank you so much everyone! I’ve had a good laugh and looked through all your suggestions, love the Clarks boots and a couple of others so going to do some browsing later this evening. I really appreciate it.
We don’t have a strict dress code other than making sure we are covered/safe just in case and we all wear trainers usually but I definitely need waterproof shoes now as it gets so wet here in the winter months.

I feel my current dr martens are too clunky

Too clunky for what?

If you already own and wear them, I presume they’re comfortable and waterproof-I’d just wear them. Or do you mean you can’t run in them? Get a pair that are similar but less clunky if so.

itsgettingweird · 26/09/2023 07:32

I wear trainers when not on boots.

I wear Reebox classic leather white ones. They are smart and also particularly and waterproof for those summer showers!

Can wear with jeggings (I wear the m and s ones) and shirt or a dress.

itsgettingweird · 26/09/2023 07:32

Practical not particularly!

seathewayahead · 26/09/2023 07:54

I have a pair of redwing boots which are slimmer than DMs but still have a good tread / sole.

Been teaching for 30 years and I’ve never felt the need to ask people about winter shoes. If you are outside why don’t you have some shoes or boots you change into to wear for duty

Hopefully you're a bit kinder in your teaching (and less critical of your fellow teachers who don't have the benefit of your 30 years experience) than this post suggests. It's a perfectly reasonable question. What teacher needs the hassle of changing shoes at break? Docs are great but slippy on wet grass and not all schools allow them. Some useful suggestions here.

You might not have but this person has. If you haven’t got advice, why respond?

Or just wear trainers or Doc Martens or whatever. This really shouldn’t be a problem.

Move on.

I adore these, have worn them 3 winters in a row and had them rehealed. They are warm, waterproof, and comfy! The bran is often associated with older people but I think these look quite good and I’m in my 30s. Not cheap though. I sized up a half size.

They look great! I’m glad I read this!

I can't cope when dickheads infiltrate Style and Beauty - it's my favourite board and is always a lovely read.
Dickheads need to stay on AIBU where they can row to their hearts content

ArseMenagerie · 26/09/2023 10:37

I teach lower key stage 1 and found dms too chunky as I have to kneel on the carpet etc
i got some campers and they are brilliant

INeedNewShoes · 26/09/2023 10:48

I'd also recommend looking at Josef Seibel boots. They are so comfortable and practical and look great too.

Glera · 26/09/2023 11:10

First thing, leather or suede as best material (hopefully you aren't vegan). They're more breathable and nicer on your feet.

I found nice smart ankle chelsea boots from Schuh that had a cracking sole on them. From experience, worked well when having to 'follow' a child at speed. The elasticated ankle keeps them on and they're not too heavy.

Glera · 26/09/2023 11:12

This kind of thing but these aren't leather. Synthetic make feet sweaty as anything.

Could be worn under trousers or look nice with a skirt / dress.

I know they are not the most stylish but hotter boots and shoes might work well. I have hyper mobility and I go over on my ankles a lot, but nowhere near as much in hotter footwear. Maybe these Harlow boots might work. Less chunky than DMs but well made and sturdy?

Why have you wasted precious time of your's and OP's life to be snippy at her for asking a perfectly valid question on the fashion section? Don't you have better things to do?

AnotherJaffaCakePlease · 26/09/2023 12:20

Definitely check out the website Heavenly Feet- I work in a school and have had a few pairs of boots from there, they are comfy. Lots of different styles.

Welcome to being a teacher, where all sorts of random asshats feel that you know nothing about life’s basics and while we’re at it, have a kicking for good measure. Luckily I got out.

OP, look at Ariat.
