Hi all, I work in a school, I need some winter boots/shoes that have good grip and that I can run in if need be ( I don’t want to be slipping and sliding on the grass) that are also super comfortable for all day wear.
Any advice is appreciated! Thank you!

Been teaching for 30 years and I’ve never felt the need to ask people about winter shoes. If you are outside why don’t you have some shoes or boots you change into to wear for duty

ZolaBudd · 25/09/2023 21:12

Or just wear trainers or Doc Martens or whatever. This really shouldn’t be a problem.

crochetmonkey74 · 25/09/2023 21:18

Hey this is style and beauty, we are nice to each other here! No need for the snark.
What sort of styles do you like OP and should they be stiff or more slouchy?

tunainatin · 25/09/2023 21:18

I couldn't cope with changing shoes throughout the day! I got some lovely reiker ankle boots last year that are sturdy enough for outdoors but not so sturdy as to not feel comfy inside iyswim. They have a huge variety of styles, some a bit middle aged but I've had loads of compliments on mine. And the quality is good.

I adore these, have worn them 3 winters in a row and had them rehealed. They are warm, waterproof, and comfy! The bran is often associated with older people but I think these look quite good and I’m in my 30s. Not cheap though. I sized up a half size.

mynamechangemyrules · 25/09/2023 21:20

Dr Martens fur lined- 2 winters already and look good with dresses!

Susuwatariandkodama · 25/09/2023 21:31

Thank you so far, I’ll have a look at some of the ones mentioned!
To answer some questions I don’t have time to change shoes, it’s not a mainstream school and I need versatile shoes. I need to be able to run after students without fear of slipping, it’s a full on job and the students have very high needs so I definitely need them to be more flexible. I feel my current dr martens are too clunky so was wondering what other people wear or find useful/comfortable.

I’m not a teacher but work one day a week in a special school as a psychologist and do have to head across muddy grass/ through waterlogged sandpits and into the depths of forest school with surprising regularity. I’m hoping these lovelies, with cropped wide legged cords/ culottes and dresses will see me through. https://www.seasaltcornwall.com/far-fields-lace-up-leather-boots

Won't it hurt if you are hit with boots?

RosieRainbow1986 · 25/09/2023 22:00

Always Dr Martens! They look great, comfy and last years! Last year a bought a cheap pair and they only lasted me a couple of months - never again!

Have you considered the possibility that you and the OP are different people?

Highlyflavouredgravy · 25/09/2023 22:09

I have a pair of skechers Chelsea boots. Look smart. Super comfy. Light and flexible and waterproof.

What an odd post. Some of us walk and get public transport to and from school and don’t want to be carrying extra shoes to change into. From what I see in the staff room in my school, boots are totally normal footwear for teachers in winter.

Frlrlrubert · 25/09/2023 22:45

I've just realised my (Clarks) boots have lasted longer than my (5 year) teaching career. I don't think they make the same ones but these are similar:

I got some soft leather DMs last year when working in a mainstream school as a 1:1 and regularly had to run around the playground/field/forest/school building and they were fab. Took a bit of breaking in but not as much as regular ones, kept my feet dry and worn with tights and thick socks under in winter my normally blue toes were toasty.

cocksstrideintheevening · 25/09/2023 22:54

@ZolaBudd presumably you are barefoot most of the time,
Seems an odd post for you to comment on.

😆 Barefoot and prone to shoving people over for no reason.

Came to say Josef Seibel too. Love mine, they were expensive but going into their third winter and still look great. So comfy and practical.

leccybill · 26/09/2023 00:03

If you're on a budget, I got Timberland style boots from Peacocks and they lasted 5 winters including long daily dog walks during Covid. They were about £22!

My school dress code does not allow Dr Martens or trainers.

Darklane · 26/09/2023 00:13

Used to be slippers that teachers hit you with when I was at school

YellowJoggers · 26/09/2023 00:27

Timberland boots are great and a little smarter than DMs!

HeyYouWithTheSadFace · 26/09/2023 00:32

I'm a primary teacher and I wear trainers every day! Converse to be precise! 😂 Dress, leggings, converse 👌🏼

I'm in Scotland though, we seem more laid back with this stuff

MehtotheChristmasrunup · 26/09/2023 01:02

I liked pull on calf length boots the best really. They worked well with lots of looks including smarter dresses or a trouser ( although skinny or straight more than flared) when you have to look professional straight after break duty.
Mine have been suede and I just sprayed them a lot. SEN school so like others on here there was plenty of running round the football pitches, woods etc.
Bit like these although mine are straighter.
