I wear cardigans too often and I want something that will elevate my outfit to something more appropriate for going out/ going to work. Thoughts please and links please, please, please.

Replace cardigans with erm, slightly smarter cardigans? So upgrade the fabric, cashmere not lambs wool, or go for a brighter colour, red or purple rather than black.

(they will have to prize my cardigans from my cold dead hands………)

RedCarAndBlueCar · 18/09/2023 19:31

Blazer?

eldorado02 · 18/09/2023 19:31

Same, @viques - every so often, I convince myself that I am the type of person who wears blazers instead of cardigans, and it always ends with me feeling mega uncomfortable and looking like a twat. I bloody love my cardies and cannot imagine life without them ❤️

ArcticBells · 18/09/2023 19:35

Quality cardigans all the way, with the emphasis on quality!

I think this is me! I love my cardigans but sometimes, mostly if I am out somewhere like a restaurant or with friends, I feel underdressed, less smart .... should I change my mindset, not my wardrobe? How?

I love a long black cardi with no buttons.

I ♥️ cardies

SeptemberTime · 18/09/2023 19:38

Blazers for when you’re going out, Zara always do perfect staple blazers in blacks and creams. Shirt or over shirts for super casual. Would replace cardigans with more jumpers too. Good luck!

I do wear cardigans. But I also have a jersey blazer which makes jeans and (clean) trainers smarter-looking for work. I got it frim Uniqlo. Not sure if they still do them.

I work in HE so pretty much anything goes, and really liking the jeans / blazer combo right now.

Same.

Long live the cardigan!

I actually think you can smarten a look by changing what’s under the cardi rather than swapping the cardi for something else. Also, jewellery really changes a cardi, as does the neckline, buttons done up or not, twin set or not, the kind of buttons, etc. They are so versatile!

PaperBlinds · 18/09/2023 19:44

I love a cardi, but do always feel a bit let down by them when out. Maybe an unstructured jacket or more structured cardigan?

I have worn a linen jacket (not blazer more like an unstructured suit jacket) all summer which has been great.

The Chanel type cardi/jacket style might up your cardi game?

ArcticBells · 18/09/2023 19:45

@WhoStoleYourHighHorse . Cashmere- ideally Brora but M&S do good cashmere and Edinburgh Woollen Mill are reasonably priced and little known

mdinbc · 18/09/2023 19:48

I agree with Correlation, keep in mind what you are wearing underneath.

I wear cardigans quite a bit as I find them really practical. The heat in my office varies, as does my internal temperature! Cardi's are an easy solution. I'm not a fan of the very slouchy look, as it can be just sloppy. Also make sure you go over them once in a while, and get rid of any that are pilled or stretched.

PaperBlinds · 18/09/2023 19:48

Now looking for myself and this is lovely www.zara.com/uk/en/textured-wrap-kimono-p02010843.html?v1=272039062&gclid=CjwKCAjw6p-oBhAYEiwAgg2PgiYYvttdySxM8ylTsRdEwGdNnL-0GK5dASEhQ04Sh50TONYuYWQNyRoCwukQAvD_BwE

Obvs you might want to wear something underneath, unlike this young lady, who looks a bit chilly.

Britpopbaby · 18/09/2023 20:07

Boucle Chanel style jackets?

MysteryBelle · 18/09/2023 20:08

You can get jackets and blazers in soft sweater-like fabrics/jersey/comfortable fabrics, Op!

therealcookiemonster · 18/09/2023 20:16

Cape lined with red satin

a whole bear skin

leather trenchcoat

are all good options.... but the best option... eat enough cake and you won't need a cardie

Doggymummar · 18/09/2023 20:21

My cardigans are all voodoo vixen, I like them

WobblyLondoner · 18/09/2023 20:36

You are my people! I have tried many alternatives to the cardi (including a pretty pricey blazer from Me & Em this spring) but they just look a bit dull and boring. I find shorter cardigans work better for me if I'm trying to look smarter - normally I'm wearing with dresses though.

Really liked the Chanel style one a previous poster linked too but sold out in my size :(

shamelesss · 18/09/2023 20:40

I love a shirts instead of cardis, linen, silk of cotton, look for oversized to get the right look
kimonos are great, look fab with jeans and structured t or bodysuit
check boohoo etc as they’ll have beach cover ups that you could use as a kimono and they’ll be on sale now
