Tu clothes: pleasantly surprised

I have never bought from Tu but I bought a cord dress recently for the princely sum of £12, and was pleasantly surprised by the decent quality. Soft and fit well. Not flouncy. Better than more expensive stuff I have.

What else could I be buying? Knickers? Cotton tees?

I was not pleasantly surprised when I went round our local Sainsbury's clothing section recently, it was horrific! I didn't see any nice dresses, good fabrics or the things you are saying, it was the worst worst colours ever. The men's department was much nicer with pleasant muted tones. I'm sure if you dig about you can find some gems, and perhaps online it is better, I have a lovely black dress from there and have got PJs over the years, but it's not pleasant right now, the styling was all over the place!

SnotZinwords · 15/09/2023 19:14

I am a huge fan of TU slippers. So soft and comfy. I won’t buy any others. Admittedly I get through about four pairs a year but they are super cheap and did I mention super comfy?!

user1471474138 · 15/09/2023 19:29

This winds me up too!
Next pyjamas generally have pockets

user1471474138 · 15/09/2023 19:33

Sorry was replying to post about pyjama pockets

Can I just say it's nice to see a post about affordable items! So many seem to be recommendations for boots/bags/clothes that are several hundred pounds!!

Agreed. I often steer clear of S&B as most things are above my price bracket

ilovesushi · 15/09/2023 21:41

Got some nice pjs. Warm and very soft with pockets but quite synthetic so not great for menopausal hot flashes.

Whathappenedto · 15/09/2023 22:07

This is excellent marketing, even if accidentally, because I have just gone and purchased two dresses and a pair of boots. DAMMIT.

Talisin · 15/09/2023 22:18

Ooh, which boots did you get @Whathappenedto ?

Everyonesliverlovesparvo · 15/09/2023 23:53

Bought some lovely wide legged jeans for £20 in short and they are the perfect length and size.
DS2 (16) has just gone into 6th form and they can’t wear joggers. He likes Uniqlo and Urban outfitters but the trousers are so expensive. Managed to buy him a pair of really well made cargo pants which are exactly the same as the Uniqlo ones and 1/2 the price !

marblesthecat · 16/09/2023 06:55

I bought baby clothes from there and the quality is very good.

Talisin · 16/09/2023 07:39

Whathappenedto · 16/09/2023 06:51

I went for these ones @Talisin
https://tuclothing.sainsburys.co.uk/product/tuc142597084 here's hoping they are nice!

Very nice! I’ve genuinely never had an uncomfortable pair of footwear from Tu so fingers crossed for you.

My favourite pair of jeans are from TU.I paid £14 about five years ago. Has lasted longer than all my designer jeans that

Same here. The most flattering pair of jeans I ever bought came from Sainsburys - cost me about £12, fitted beautifully, got compliments all the time. I miss those jeans (I <cough> 'grew out of them'.)

Sunnycats · 16/09/2023 07:56

Hi! Would someone mind linking to the knickers?

SatelliteStomper · 16/09/2023 07:59

I agree about the knitwear being mostly nasty acrylic though, which is a shame because I can never have enough sweaters. However I did buy a gorgeous oversized green cardigan in there a few months ago which also regularly garners compliments. They had it in a dark red too and I am still kicking myself for not buying both colours.

I'm heading to my local Sainsbury's later today and am now looking forward to a good mooch around TU!

Hi! Would someone mind linking to the knickers?

Just look on their website!

borntobequiet · 16/09/2023 08:18

About 80% of my purchases from Tu over the last ten years are wardrobe staples that look good, wash well and have had many wears. Their designers are good at picking up trends and colours and making them everyday wearable. Their fabrics are generally as good as or better than higher end brands. Fit is mostly consistent and accurate. Their underwear is great, I love their cotton jersey bras that are very comfy but well cut and give support and their cotton Brazilian knickers. Swimwear is really good and half the price of M&S. Every year they do a black one-piece with white detailing that looks good enough to wear by the pool on holiday, but that you can actually swim in.

vestedinterests · 14/09/2023 09:04

I wouldn't buy their tshirts. The neckline went soggy after one or two washes and they faded terribly very quickly. I had to bin them only after a couple of wears

Yes, I thought their T-shirts were terrible quality, so thin and go misshapen after washing. A cardigan went bobbly very quickly too.

They seem to have filled the hole left by Dorothy Perkins - lots of polyester workwear as their core stock and some more fashionable seasonal items.

LimeCheesecake · 16/09/2023 08:28

I agree about style and beauty often being super expensive! Does someone want to start a thread of “affordable but stylish/decent quality” clothes because I’d be in!

Sunnycats · 16/09/2023 08:34

@inappropriateraspberry yes but there are loads of knickers with lace at the top and as I've not bought them before I'd like to buy the right ones?

LimeCheesecake · 16/09/2023 08:39

And inspired by this thread - even though I needed no food, I popped into Sainsbury’s yesterday when at another shop in the same out of town shopping centre thing - tried on a couple of things.

tried this green stripe jumper - https://tuclothing.sainsburys.co.uk/product/tuc143127164 felt nice but odd wide sleeves that weren’t flattering and I just thought would end up in food/cleaning stuff. also ended at a strange point, seemed either too long or too short in body. Across the bust true to size. If you have a long body it would be great.

Also tried this skirt - https://tuclothing.sainsburys.co.uk/product/tuc143183271 they only had a 12 and I think I’d need a 10 or 8, shows every lump and bump so I’d go 10 (I’d wear it to work, so not going to sit in shaping underwear all day). Looks much nicer in the flesh. Seen a few skirts like this for £70-80 in other shops so nice nod to the column knitted midi style without spending a fortune. Might try it in black.

CharlotteRumpling · 16/09/2023 09:16

I promise this is not a marketing post @Whathappenedto!
@LimeCheesecake I would definitely be up for that. Though these days I get a lot of stuff in charity shops.
I see a lot of stuff on TU that would be good for teens and young adults, though unfortunately the ones in my house are super fussy and won't accept suggestions.

Haha @CharlotteRumpling only joking! But I do sometimes wonder when the same sort of M+S thread pops up every so often if it's genuine!

marmiteloversunite · 16/09/2023 21:45

I wish they would bring back their fitting rooms. Hate having to take it home and then bring it back if it doesn't fit.
