Tu clothes: pleasantly surprised

I have never bought from Tu but I bought a cord dress recently for the princely sum of £12, and was pleasantly surprised by the decent quality. Soft and fit well. Not flouncy. Better than more expensive stuff I have.

What else could I be buying? Knickers? Cotton tees?

I hate their leggings too, especially the 'active' ones. They're not stretchy enough and always feel really tight especially around the knee.

I agree with the big pants. Love them.

I do find the new website annoying though as it's gone all M&S now and is mainly other brands without the ability to just be able to see the Tu clothes

There are filters at the side so you can filter it by brand and just see Tu clothes. Agreed, I hate when shops loads of brands. They all have the same ones.

mynameiscalypso · 14/09/2023 19:23

@cantstaymadatyou I couldn't find those filters the other day (for brands specifically) but I may have been looking at something random which may not have had them. I will try again, thank you!

EuniceLopril · 14/09/2023 19:41

Well Ive not shopped Tu for a few years but thanks to this thread I have now ordered two packs of the big knickers and two jumpers! They used to have a 'premium' range, the quality of anything I bought from it was great. Think they got rid around six years ago for some reason.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 14/09/2023 19:41

I had a denim jacket from there a couple of months ago. Compares favourably with much more expensive ones from M & S. I bought the dark green gillet and a long skirt the same colour for autumn, which I'm looking forward to wearing. And I really rate the knickers too.

CharlotteRumpling · 14/09/2023 20:09

Sadly, all their jumpers seem to be polyester or acrylic, which I can't abide. I wish I could search by fabric.

They do! I'm sorry but if I'm looking at jeans on Tu I'm unlikely to have £59 to spend on a pair from Finery or FatFace.

I love Tu. This month I bought the most fabulous pair of thick wide-leg jeans to go with platform Converse and some tweedy wide-legs, £20 each. I spent my whole mat leave in their Luxury leggings. The only thing I'm not keen on is some of their efforts at a "dressy" top. Mint green broderie anglaise with a random bow, or weird leopard tunics.
Someone told me their designers and suppliers for the kids stuff is the same as Next which may be true.

purplecorkheart · 14/09/2023 20:22

Got a few bits when a day trip turned into a long weekend unexpectedly. Tops were a particular hit. Lightweight and sits well on my body shape. Wish we had them in Ireland.

TheSpikySpinosaurus · 14/09/2023 20:26

Cardigans! I bought two waterfall cardigans there about ten years ago and they're still fabulous. Haven't bobbled or lost their shape.

SiobhanSharpe · 14/09/2023 20:40

I buy TU bras, they are as good as M&S or better but much cheaper. The stretch lace ones are pretty and comfortable too.
I like their sleepwear too, threT-shirt tops with shorts or cropped trouser combos. They do a supersoft fabric in some ranges which is exactly that, so super-comfy.

giadaros · 14/09/2023 20:56

I got this dress a few weeks ago when I was back in the UK and it's beautiful. Looks incredible on and the quality is fantastic, much better than a Zara one I bought for double the price that has already lost a button and has a hole in the seam. Neither have been washed yet though!

I buy their cotton bras. I've been wearing them for years. They are excellent quality and really cheap, so as a result they're often sold out. I also bought some denim dungarees from Tu last year which I wore a lot. I think you have to be choosy because some of their styles are awful but they also do some good stuff.

BCBird · 14/09/2023 20:59

I have had a few dresses for work. I agree re quality.need some knickers.going to look.

Talisin · 14/09/2023 21:07

One of my colleagues wafted in in this fabulous broderie dress a few weeks ago. Immediately tried to nab one myself but it was sold out. Their footwear is really good if you’re ‘blessed’ with wider feet.

I have this one from summer 2022 and it's so lovely on

TheOGCCL · 14/09/2023 21:22

I like Tu and also F+F in Tesco. I don't like the knitwear though as all of it without fail is synthetic (sweaty and not warm enough at the same time). You can get some real bargains.

INeedNewShoes · 14/09/2023 21:43

@CharlotteRumpling - I bought a really nice cotton jumper just a couple of months ago and I've just had a quick look and I can see some on the website

INeedNewShoes · 14/09/2023 21:44

@FictionalCharacter - I'd go for the smaller size. I have 'full briefs' from John Lewis and from Tu and Tu size 12 seems around the same size as JL 14

friskybivalves · 14/09/2023 21:49

Just got the cord dress in the black. Looks promising for winter...

AliasGrape · 14/09/2023 22:05

Pretty much every item of clothing I’ve bought new since having my daughter 3 years ago has been tu. Convenience/ laziness mainly - we live near a big Sainsbury’s and I seem to have lost any organisational ability so that I’m often having moments of realising that I don’t have anything suitable in my size anymore for some event/ holiday/ particular weather (and it’s happening later today so no time to go elsewhere) so a quick dash to Sainsbury’s it is. More often than not I get sorted out there too, and I’ve has some really nice things. Mostly been happy with the quality too, though agree tops and t-shirts are not their strength. I had a gorgeous slightly 80s style cotton sweater from there in a really bright pink which I loved, gutted that I splashed some bleach on it and ruined it - trying to work up the courage to go properly 80s and tie dye it.

Also had a few nice dresses. some great jeans, and agree that their underwear is good.

DH has been happy with the shorts from there too, had a few different pairs over a couple of years.

Oh and I got a pair of black leather DM style boots when I couldn’t justify the cost of real DMs - they’ve been great.

You do have to watch out - I bought a really beautiful teal satin wrap maxi dress from there last year, I was so chuffed with it it really suited me and was perfect for what I wanted. Wore it once and it basically disintegrated - the seams just came apart (promise they weren’t bursting or under undue stress!) - they refunded me quite happily, I was so tempted to swap it for another one of the same dress because I loved the look so much but common sense prevailed as it was definitely an issue with quality/ design.

The other thing I hate is how you’ll search for a specific item or size etc, and it will bring you pages and page of out of stock stuff. If it’s out of stock you don’t need to show it me - clearly I’m looking for something I can actually buy? I know other sites do this to some extent but tu seems terrible for it.

OkIAmDoneNoReally · 14/09/2023 22:51

I've several versions of their comfy t-shirt bras in all colours. Love them. Also got some gorgeous summer dresses over the years. My favourite dress is Sainsburys.

Mayim · 14/09/2023 22:58

I follow TU on insta and really like the look of some of their clothing - but I would like to see it in a shop before I buy.

Are there any branches of Sainsburys in London or just outside West London that stock the full range?

Howtohideasausage · 14/09/2023 23:07

They do! I only wear Sainos bottoms.

Howtohideasausage · 14/09/2023 23:08

I was meant to be replying about the pyjamas having pockets.

Howtohideasausage · 14/09/2023 23:09

Mayim. The one on the north circular (chingford) does.
