Tu clothes: pleasantly surprised

I have never bought from Tu but I bought a cord dress recently for the princely sum of £12, and was pleasantly surprised by the decent quality. Soft and fit well. Not flouncy. Better than more expensive stuff I have.

What else could I be buying? Knickers? Cotton tees?

I just bought a pair of wide legged jeans, really soft great cut but have had blue hands all day!!

Great value though and I am tall and they are long enough

Alloveragain3 · 14/09/2023 23:32

Also a big fan here.
They do lovely baby/toddler clothes and I've had a few nice bits like dresses and leggings.

I have lived in Tu flip flops for the whole summer. Can honestly say they are the most comfortable footwear I have ever worn! On holiday I even wore them out in the evening and have been asked where I got them from! My Fly Sandals have gone to the charity shop 😂

@AliasGrape I think bleach ruins everything tho? how could it not? I'm very clumsy and there's never been an item that it didn't mark if splashed on, I tend to just carry on wearing them casually 🤷🏽‍♀️ or you could replace the top on eBay?

Oh yes - I wasn’t blaming tu for my clumsiness there! The jumper was great and good quality and I shouldn’t have been wearing it whilst splashing cleaning stuff around.

I do like their PJs. Wash well and comfy.
I got a long waterproof coat I. The sale last year for school runs - it's brilliant!
I rate their school shoes too, my son has some and they are great quality and real leather!

BrandNewBicep · 15/09/2023 07:58

I'm really surprised by this thread. Going back a few years, I used to buy a lot from TU. They did a lot of cotton clothes and some nice styles. However, now not so much cotton, the cut is awful and they wash dreadfully. I saw a lovely bright pink, very soft jumper and was tempted, but then thought it won't wash well, so left it. I saw another lovely looking jumper, but then realised the sleeves started down near the bottom (hard to explain). A couple of years ago bought a lovely cowl neck super soft jumper - first gentle wash and it came out like cardboard.

I've got a couple of their coats, bought in the day you could order into store. They're still looking good about four years later. Sadly our local store isn't big enough to stock clothes and you can't order any more.

@Mayim Forest Hill (Bell Green) in SE London does. Biggest Sainsbury's in the UK <tragic claim to fame>

CharlotteRumpling · 15/09/2023 08:23

So many fans! Those broderie dresses are very cute. But sold out in my size. I bought a broderie tee though.

I am not sure I want to risk jeans or any larger items until I have washed these ones.

TBH I find Tu to be hit and miss. The "hits" can be fantastic, but I've had as many misses.
My local Sains only has a small Tu section, so I don't see all their stuff in the flesh. I've bought dresses online and found they're made of the most awful fabric - like the crimpeline your granny wore in the 70s; other dresses have been great: cotton and lined.

I bought summer trousers and top last year, and the edge seams went all frayed and sticky-outy after one gentle wash. A thick cable cardigan looked crap after a week's wear.
But I have been stopped on the street by strangers (really) about this year's and last year's summer dresses I bought there. And my new jeans are fab.

Shop carefully and in person, I think.

starfishmummy · 15/09/2023 08:40

I like the knitwear although you do need to pick and choose as some is great and some looks cheap.

Isometimeswonder · 15/09/2023 09:48

Can I just say it's nice to see a post about affordable items! So many seem to be recommendations for boots/bags/clothes that are several hundred pounds!!

CharlotteRumpling · 15/09/2023 10:04

@Isometimeswonder I feel very out of step with S and B sometimes because so many of the suggestions are more than I am willing to spend on a dress or a tip. Not that I am skint. But my mortgage has gone up, and I WFH a lot, so I can't really justify super expensive clothes. I will spend on coats and shoes and possibly woolen knitwear, but not on summer dresses.

I also find you don't get what you pay for. I bought a pair of expensive ( for me) Saint and Sofia trousers, and after one wash they looked like Primark joggers.

I am near Forest Hill, so might make a trip.

The Romford Brewery Sainsbury's has quite a large clothing section.

I love their underwear & PJs, also kids clothes.

Notpooryet · 15/09/2023 11:31

Love TU and cheap as chips secondhand

Cheeesus · 15/09/2023 11:35

My teens are usually in adult clothes, occasionally short fitting trousers are needed.

gogomoto · 15/09/2023 11:41

Their clothes are good, better than cheap high street and online brands, better than the other supermarkets too. Our branch is small so I tend to order online for delivery to store (free) and try on in the toilets. Good for basics too, bras, knickers, tights.

Legacy · 15/09/2023 11:54

When DS came home from uni suddenly during covid he had virtually no clothes with him so I bought a couple of pairs of jeans from Tu for him and he says they are by far and away the best jeans he has!

I've had success with fitted stretchy blouses, underwear and PJs.

Ginmonkeyagain · 15/09/2023 14:59

You have to be picky - there are some absolutely heinous fabrics and prints.

I hae had a few successes:

  1. A really good navy and white polka dot needle cord shirt dress I wear loads in the winter.
  2. Two short, a line, floral patterned cord skirts that are great in the winter with a plain jumper, thick tights and flat boots.
  3. A good quality, long line cotton t shirt in thick cream and hot pink stripes.

How is the sizing for the knicks @INeedNewShoes ? I sometimes find myself in between sizes.

Depends what type they are.

Shorts and Brazilian style are true to size.

The High Leg knicks are quite generous so I size down, but I have been known to have a sneaky peak at them especially if there's already an open pack hanging there. I'm known for my Maria Kondo folding skills so I can refold them back in the pack before anyone gets the arse tells me off.

daisychain01 · 15/09/2023 15:53

I've bought several jackets, trousers (the widelegged cotton ones and a pair of plain black with belt loops), cardi and scarf or 3

Nightwear is a competition between Tu and White Stuff. Tu is good for summer short sleeved PJs and White Stuff for winter fleecy lounge suit bottoms with coordinated long sleeved tops.

You can order online and get delivered to your nearest store for free (even if they don't do clothes) or for home delivery.

dayslikethese1 · 15/09/2023 17:00

I like their bras. Got a couple plain tops from there as well and some canvas trainers.
