Louis Vuitton Neverfull

Flutterbye22 · 01/09/2023 20:44

I am considering treating myself to one of these Louis Vuitton bags.

  1. https://uk.louisvuitton.com/eng-gb/products/neverfull-mm-damier-ebene-008116/N41358

or

  1. https://uk.louisvuitton.com/eng-gb/products/neverfull-mm-monogram-007653/M40995

which do you prefer?

also I’m wondering whether to buy directly from store brand new or look at the second hand market… just concerned about authenticity.

Woah!! They've gone up in price.

Anyway, I like the first design. Mines been used as a beach bag, change bag, swim bag etc. Got it about 9 years ago and it still looks new! Really good bags.

Do I get the GM or the MM?!

I tried on both the MM and the GM. The MM felt similar to my medium Longchamp tote. The GM is big but if you toggle in the sides it feels comparable.
For me it will be the GM so I can use for travel and larger shopping trips but for day to day I plan to toggle it in and change the look from the regular untoggled shape.

Settodonotdisturb · 13/09/2023 09:09

Oh and somewhere I’ve seen a pickpocket comment, I also feel that a deeper toggled bag is slightly more secure

WildFlowerBees · 13/09/2023 10:08

I have both GM & MM, I'm away with work and have my GM Azure with me, carries my iPad, all my travel stuff, my jacket, bottle of water it's a Mary Poppins bag it's perfect for travel and despite being shoved under plane seats and overhead lockers it's in good condition.

I use my MM when I don't need to pack the kitchen sink. Don't forget you can tuck in the sides to make it smaller if needs be.

I like both but if it were for daily use I'd prefer the MM.

I agree with @stealthbanana they are overpriced for a canvas bag ( still love mine though ) as are Goyards. Yes they are taking the michael Smile

Totally agree they’re over priced now for a canvas.

I just can’t find an alternative that I like as much 😢

Go yards are nice though, but not quite hitting it for me.

My friend said she’ll take me to Harrods to have a look around and look at all the options, so going to do that before I decide.

I’ll be sure to keep you updated and post a picture of what I decide to go for 🙂

Oh are they canvas, not leather?

Coated canvas,very hard-wearing.

I have the first one with red lining as well. I don’t think I realised there was a choice of lining when I brought it five years ago.
it fits a lot in and have taken it on holiday but it’s too big for everyday and I find when it’s loaded it’s heavy and cuts in to my shoulder.
it was handy as an airport/aeroplane bag but then I got lumbered with everyone’s rubbish as well as my own.

mine has started coming undone on the handles though and I visited the Westfield store and was told they could send it away but wouldn’t tell me how much or how long for the repair so I didn’t send it off as didn’t want a huge bill

I think they’re gorgeous but have never been able to get over paying that kind of price for a canvas bag. (See also Goyard.) It just seems like they’re taking the mickey to me.

my workhorse bag is an (old) bottega veneta tote. Big and black and slouchy. It is divine. And impossible to fake. I bought it second hand years ago in Hong Kong, but I think you can still get them for a good price (everyone is obsessed with the “new” bottega Jodies, cassettes, pouches etc and the old stuff seems relatively well priced). Suede lining, inside pockets etc.

Old Bottega is the best. I was glad to see the back of Daniel Lee and hopefully the cassette and the oversize intrecciato will slowly die off. The new creative director Matthieu Blazy is already doing a great job in bringing back the understated luxury that Bottega Veneta has always been about .

stealthbanana · 13/09/2023 23:50

@windmill26 totally agree. They are bags for life. I looked at the new loop and liked the look but it is unlined - wtf?! For a £1k+ bag?! Bring back the old classics please.

Golightlygoodnight · 14/09/2023 00:00

I just sold my neverfull (your second link) on eBay for £1200 (I’d never used it)
I had to send it via an authenticated who then shipped it to the buyer which seems to be something eBay now demand for all high end bags so you’re probably well protected buying from there.

The bag though… hated it! Bought it from LV online and so it had spent its entire short life folded in its box. The creases just wouldn’t come out. Had it stood up on my dresser for months stuffed with bubble wrap but they wouldn’t go. Also (probably as a result of looking at it for so long) I really went off the colour. The version they did in 2012 with the tan handles was so timeless and classic (and what I desperately wanted). This one just felt like a (not at all) cheap imitation!

If the loop is unlined it will lose the shape pretty quickly. I like the large Flip Flap but at that price (with very little leather) I'd rather buy an Herbag from Hermes (if and when they'll have it in stock!).

pat76 · 14/09/2023 12:52

I used to love this bag, but so many people have it (and so many fakes) it puts me off....

Comedycook · 14/09/2023 12:54

augustusglupe · 01/09/2023 23:55

I have No 1. I can't believe how much they've gone up.
I bought mine in LV in Manchester about 6 years ago. I think it was about £700

I know...I bought my neverfull direct from the Louis Vuitton website about 15 years ago and paid about £400!

I just got a YSL east west tote and feel like it will replace my neverfull GM as my go to travel bag. It's lovely, soft leather , comparable in size to the MM neverfull but more comfortable to carry.

I had an interesting thought process in response to the YSL bag along the lines of:
nice bag, great colours
ooh leather and cheaper
i like the green
i will batter that and scuff the leather in no time
I wonder if they do something more durable like coated canvas 😂

also, re the “it isn’t even leather” comments, why do we always say this? Why has it been drilled into us that leather is always premium/best/most durable. Is it? When I think about it my views on this come from my mother shopping for school shoes.

IloveJudgeJudy · 15/09/2023 10:28

I know you all say you use it and stuff it under the seat in planes, etc, but how do you stop your stuff falling out as there’s no zip? The pouch isn’t that big?

also, surely the straps dig in your shoulder? I have a Kate Spade of the same sort of shape and I don’t use it so much as the straps dug into my shoulder once I had a laptop and work stuff in it.

Does look like a great bag, though, and I go through phases of wanting one but thinking I probably wouldn’t use it enough to justify the (huge and inflated) price.

stealthbanana · 15/09/2023 11:39

Well yes leather is much more durable than canvas, yes. And it is a more expensive material to procure. I find it obnoxious to sell a canvas bag for thousands of pounds…

TizerorFizz · 15/09/2023 12:21

@IloveJudgeJudy You don’t over stuff them and you keep them upright. MM is easier to manage than GM. Longchamp is better overall on planes! Difficult with the LV Neverfull GM under the seat in front. Ok in the overhead box. You can fold the top over. It’s not a perfect bag for travel and yes, the shoulder straps dig in. I use mine for meetings when I need a folder or two. Ditto Loewe Basket bag.

Loewe Annagram bag is leather with a secure insert. Decent alternative.

CokeZeroForBreakfast · 15/09/2023 12:35

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 03/09/2023 18:32

I am going against the grain here, they are over faked, not at all secure apart from the silly little pocket inside that zips, and predictable. I would go for something less obvious, but then i have thought that way for the last 15yrs, which is why i sold mine then.

Same here. I also can't bear the look of any 'loud' branding and logos these days. The Polène Cyme is a perfect workhorse bag (lots of space, lightweight, leather, super durable) at a great price for anyone who likes a more minimalist, understated aesthetic.

Graasspp · 15/09/2023 12:43

Not read the full thread but has anyone mentioned Goyard St Louis?
I have both MM neverfull and a St Louis and I much prefer it. Just seems more stylish now.
The straps of the MM really cut into you if it's full, and it's soooo open, I dare not take the a crowd

Goyard prices drop like a stone secondhand. Don't buy a new one!

@cringelibrarian A Chanel? Which one for £1400? A purse?
