Would anyone like to join in on a 100 day princessing journey?

100 days from today is 1st December so a perfect time to start our princessing journeys. I’m overweight, constantly tired and feel generally rubbish about myself. I want to make this a priority so hopefully posting here will make all of us a little accountable and we can all support each other…

Update:

  • despite spending the last couple of days travelling, I’ve resisted the urge for junk food, and kept up the water and balanced diet
  • used up a couple of samples of beauty products while staying with the in-laws, it can still be a time to keep up my skincare routine!
  • resisted the urge to doom scroll while on the train, listened to a really good podcast about building a capsule wardrobe instead
Sweetum · 28/08/2023 21:21

@MotherWol what was the podcast?
Podcasts and capsule wardrobe have been the aim of my day today so interested to combine the 2.

NorthWestThree · 29/08/2023 08:54

I'm officially starting today! I've had a brilliant summer but it hasn't been the healthiest 😂 I was at a festival at the weekend and ate and drank far too much.

I don't want to overwhelm myself with too many changes. Today's plan:

Drink minimum 2l of water, aim for 3l. I have a 1l water bottle so nice and easy to just get through it 2-3 times!

Get back on healthy eating plan. It's controversial on MN but I do slimming world and I really like it. I did a shop yesterday and am actually excited by all the nice fruit, veg and salady stuff in my fridge! I use a logging app (not the official SW one) all downloaded and ready to fill in!

Walk 8000 steps. My usual target is 10000 but I am WFH today so it will be trickier so easing myself in gently so as not to fail 😁

Poblano · 29/08/2023 09:09

Today's to do list:

Appointment for an eyebrow shape. I used to have it done religiously every 6 weeks but have got out of the routine.

Collect the dresses I've ordered. I have a family wedding in a couple of months and have nothing suitable to wear. Have bought several dresses in the sales to try on in the hope that something works.

Paint nails ready to go back to work tomorrow after annual leave.

PetitPorpoise · 29/08/2023 09:52

To do list:

  1. Ring hairdressers and book appointment
  2. Put make up on and clothes that aren't leggings
  3. Eat two healthy meals
  4. Have a no cheese day
  5. Start journal that is arriving today.
SummerSwifts · 29/08/2023 11:19

Yesterday (day 1) I gave myself a home manicure - including using a buffing paste and cuticle remover. That's a lot more effort that my usual wait until they start breaking and then clip them with a pair of nail clippers. They look quite nice now. I've never worn nail polish on my finger nails - someone on the thread said something about their hands not seeming as if they belong to them when they saw them with nail polish. I am the same but I am tempted to check out the Rimmel nail polish recommended previously.

Didn't do any exercise - exercise is my nemesis. I really need to get over the mental block that I have about doing it.

Pinchelada · 29/08/2023 12:43

Ladies, there is a YouTuber I follow called Mrs Midwest. She is a very conservative trad-wife but she has a pretty broad following, including people who you wouldn't think are her target audience.

She has some really great videos about 'glowing up' and I find her content really inspiring when I feel like I need a bit of oomph. She had a good video on how she grew her hair and I followed her advice and did notice an improvement on mine!

Poblano · 28/08/2023 10:54

My capsule is very, very boring...

Wide leg black trousers, wide leg navy trousers, ankle grazer black trousers, ankle grazer navy trousers).
Shirts in exactly the same style but different colourways (I've found an M&S shirt that fits well, so I just keep buying the same style in different colours as they update the range in different seasons).
Beige blazer and navy blazer for smarter days.
Beige trench coat.
Loafers and brogues.
Black tote handbag big enough to fit my laptop.

I'm sure none of this is S&B appropriate, but it works well for me as it fits nicely, the shirts don't need ironing and everything goes together so I don't have to think too hard in the morning.

This sounds great! When I’ve made capsule wardrobes before I included lots of different items so I had variety and choice. But over time I realised that I only wore some of the things and tended to ignore the other items.

This time I’ve made a note of the types of clothes I actually wear / am comfortable in / suits me, and will just get clothes similar to those in different colours or slightly different styles, as I know I’ll actually wear them.

Xeren · 29/08/2023 15:23

Sweetum · 28/08/2023 10:54

@newyorkinthefall hope you're feeling better again today. Be kind to yourself. Covid can take a frustratingly long time to bounce back from!

@Xeren It's so nice that you can walk to work. Not possible here but I'm making a big effort to walk my baby to nursery and back of possible. What Podcasts do you listen to? I love The Drs Kitchen- I find it really motivating. I also loved Stuff The British Stole but looks like the current season of that has finished now. Always keen for suggestions.

I've been plodding along quietly for a few days. Pleased with how I'm doing. My weight is now only 1kg away from a healthy BMI which will feel like a big boost when I get there.

Definitely feeling like I'm more de-slobbing than actively Princessing at the moment so perhaps I'll try to paint my nails or do a face mask this evening.

Had a temperature drop of 25 degrees in 3 days here. Feels like fine to sort out the wardrobe so I'm cracking on with that today.

Interested to hear what is in other people's capsule wardrobes. I'm living in a very small 1 bed flat at the moment which is tough because there is not much room for clothes, but also no room for a washing machine so I do need a good rotation as I can't go to the laundry every day!

Walking is great! When I was on maternity leave I would bundle my DC into the pram and go for walks. It was the only exercise I would do.

Bad American reality tv is my guilty pleasure, so I listen to comedy recap podcasts which talk about how ridiculous these shows are.

Here are some other ones I like:

  • Trashy Divorces: Every episode deep dives into 1 or 2 trashy divorces of famous celebrity couples or historical figures. The presenters do a lot research about the subjects (early life, career etc) so you learn a lot about them).
  • British Scandal: Every season focuses on a different British scandal - Phone Hacking, Spy Cops, Iraq War Dossier, The Abdication etc. I recently listened to the one about Robert Maxwell and really enjoyed it. It was a comprehensive explanation about his life and downfall. I was gripped!
  • Red Handed: True Crime about crazy cases. Very detailed and discussed sensibly (not titillating or hysterical).
  • Mamma Mia: 3 Aussie ladies talking about current events, celebrity gossip and women’s issues. An easy breezy, upbeat way to keep updated with the news.

I don’t have much space either so only keep out clothes that I’ll wear this season and vacuum seal my out-of-season clothes away.

It might be a bit tricky if you don’t have a washing machine. Here’s a website with lots of advice and a calculator to count how many items of clothing you might need:

Hope it helps!

Xeren · 29/08/2023 15:48

@Sweetum Re capsule wardrobes, I think an important part before you even start is to really think about what suits you in terms of colours and styles and lifestyle.

I have 4 separate capsule wardrobes for the different seasons which I have on rotation through out the year (some clothes can be worn in multiple seasons).

Each capsule has 2-4 accent colours (the stand out colours) and 2-4 neutral colours (colours that go with any other colour e.g white, black, grey etc). If you have a limited colour pallet, you can mix and match your clothes more and create more outfits options.

Then be really objective about your body and think about what styles suit you and what you’re comfortable in. There’s a system called Kibbe that I found helpful. You can also just look at the clothes you wear and identify what you love wearing. I also like people watching and seeing what other women are wearing and find inspiration that way. Then when you go shopping, you know what styles to go for.

You can further subdivide your capsule to have a few sets of clothing for the different areas of your life. Have a think about your lifestyle and assess what type of clothes you need e.g work wear, practical comfy running around baby wear, nice flattering days out with family & friends wear.

Look at the clothes you already have and identify what you want to keep or declutter. Then you can start filling in the gaps of what clothes you need.

That’s kinda the basics but there’s lots of different approaches and you can get loads of tips on youtube and online. Also look up Project 333 which is similar to capsule wardrobes.

MotherWol · 29/08/2023 16:31

@Sweetum it was The Minimal Mom and she interviewed Courtney Carver who started the Project 333 capsule wardrobe thing. Link here: https://minimalmom.podbean.com/e/solve-your-closet-today/

I really enjoyed it, especially the bit about what to do with clothes that don’t fit (but you hope you’ll slim back into!)

Good evening princesses!

I feel good today, it’s day 3 on my HRT and I cannot believe how much better I feel!

  • i’ve eaten well, really low carb and lots of protein.
  • a dress I ordered on Vinted arrived and it’s really nice- perfect length (midi) , deep v, gorgeous forest green… it’s a good dress for me and I will wear it to a family do on September 9th.
  • gym this morning at 6am

I’m feeling tired now though and I’ve not managed 10k steps today (nowhere near)
I’m just waiting for dd to leave the kitchen and then I’ll cook- I’m having a duck breast, and stir fried veg 😋

OuiLaLa · 30/08/2023 04:39

@PetitPorpoise thanks for that! I’ll take a look.

I think a previous poster has described it to a T - I feel like I’m deslobbing rather than princessing! But this thread is really helpful.

I did naff all princessing yesterday, first day back at work after hols and it’s busy with getting DD ready for school (she is really stressed and unhappy about it all).

But my little DS napped for 2.5 hours in his cot on his own and then did a mega sleep between 10.30 and 4 which is totally unheard of because he has been waking up about 6 times a night (he is 14 months so exhausted does not cover it). So it’s hard not to be happy and celebrate that!

Loopylooni · 30/08/2023 05:33

@OuiLaLa deslobbing is a great word! I'm going to RTFT but...

Mine was :

  • to brush my hair fully (it's very thick and always in knots)
  • look in the mirror (I havent bothered in ages)
  • wear flattering cool clothes other than leggings/sportswear plus see what suits. I tended to wear loose tops but tucking in looks a ton better
  • drink more water/eat better

I've done all of the above this week (and it was a concerted effort) and a friend said how great I looked! (3 times!)

Next mini steps : cut and colour booked for weekend

  • potentially buy a bigger size jeans so I can tuck in comfortably. I was always a 14/16 and now I think I'm a 16/18. I'm tall but I think being peri menopausal has caught up with me. Hoping the school run means lots more walking and potential weight loss.

I love this thread as I've totally lost sight of myself. And not setting my children a good example at all but not caring about myself.

Mummyoflittledragon · 30/08/2023 07:25

I’d like to also join. Idk about princess! Am disabled. Fluctuating condition so exercise not always possible but I’m going through a relatively good patch atm. I started to eat healthier on 8th June and have lost 8kg. Yeh! Have a lot more to lose, almost 30 to be in the normal range bmi. Ill health brought me to this point as I was always a healthy weight beforehand. So my goal is to build on this and if I were to continue for the next 100 days, it could be another 8 kilos, 10 if I’m lucky. Idk if that is possible as winter is coming. Would be great!

I upped my HRT as I think I’m probably at peak peri now and was getting increased headaches. Not sure as I had a hysterectomy and ovary removal 5 years ago. Doesn’t seem to help with energy, maybe that’s because it’s only oestrogen. I have also managed to take the remedies and supplements every day that I have been advised to take by a toxicologist… my ill health is to do with poisoning from prescription drugs and the stuff is bringing very slow results. This is a major achievement for me as it’s hard to do being incredibly tough on the body.

Other goals, I also need to try to look after myself better in general, energy reliant. I even felt well enough to wear makeup a few times recently, which felt great. We have a family wedding coming up so the practice was great. I’ve also had some tips from a makeup artist. Additionally I would also like to get a spray tan and get my nails done. I have already booked the hairdresser. I could also do with getting my eyebrows tinted before we go.

Dd is back at school next week so I will have more time to myself and hopefully more head space. I’d like to take some time relax to help me continue to eat well and replenish my energy.

WarrenTofficer · 30/08/2023 07:29

A bit late to the party, but can I join? I’ve just started back at the gym (as in, last week!) and am going to do Sober September so this is really good timing. Mine are:

  1. cut out/down alcohol
  2. cut out snacking; meals are healthy but it’s the snacking that gets me
  3. drink more water
  4. strength train 2x week
  5. cardio 2x week
  6. iron my clothes rather than throw them on creased!
  7. start to have my nails done regularly (my son’s friend’s mum does them so that’ll be a bit of a social!)
  8. weekly bath/face mask/foot scrub/paint toenails

I think that’s enough to start with, no doubt I’ll think of more 😂

PetitPorpoise · 30/08/2023 09:07
  • Yesterday I rang the hairdressers and have a consultation tomorrow to discuss what I need in terms of colour, as I don't really know. I've had highlights before but have a few grey strands appearing and would like a bit of a re-style as well.
  • At the doctor's at the moment waiting for my smear test. Don't think I have been since pre-kids which is 2016. Made sure I left enough time this morning to put some make up on, but their hair is in the old mum bun because it just looks so shit at the moment.
  • Sticking to avoiding UPF and tracking calories.
  • Today I want to get outside a little bit and then going for a meal with some family later so will have some wine there.

Does anyone here use a hair oil they’d recommend? I want to take better care of my dry, frizzy hair as it’s definitely letting the side down, would appreciate some tips!

Moroccan oil treatment oil - you can buy travel size from Amazon to try it out!

Poblano · 30/08/2023 20:01

I've spent several hours on trains today and have been listening to lots of podcasts, including this one on what to wear to work post Covid. This is something I struggle with - I quite like looking smartish for work as it helps divide work time and leisure time.

Someone upthread was asking about skin tag removal. I had some removed from my eyelid a couple of years ago at a beauty salon. I don't think I'd have tried to do it myself in such a delicate area. It only cost £40 and it left no trace at all.

Also, anyone with a fungal toenail that they want to fix: Boots own brand treatment is £10 instead of £27 today (and it's £9 with a Clubcard as you get 10% off own brand).

The post pandemic workplace: what to wear?

I definitely need to "glow up" so I will be watching some Mrs Midwest videos later, as recommended by @Pinchelada

Day 2 of my princessing and I shaved my underarms and legs. I know it sounds odd but I always feel a bit better when I'm not so hairy, lol.

@MotherWol - I have bought a bottle of Castor Oil and some Rosemary Essential Oil and I'm going to mix up my own hair oil. I read somewhere, I can't remember where, that Castor Oil massaged into the scalp is good for hair growth. I dislike my hair very much, I used to have it very short but was never really happy with it. I've grown it now to roughly chin length. I have been looking at ways to style it with scarfs/bandanas etc. It's a look I've always liked on other people but have never had the confidence to try on myself.

SushiSuave · 30/08/2023 21:14

I've been applying my cuticle balm, blistex intense lip repair and my sleep roll on every night and I actually enjoy the little routine when I get in to bed! Also treated myself to a lip oil today which I'm going to wear to work to feel a little more princessy!

Jekiffe · 30/08/2023 21:45

I’d recommend trying taking magnesium and vit B complex to encourage hair growth. My eyebrows were really sparse and doing that has really seemed to help.

scrumbledegg · 31/08/2023 11:44

Well I started skin n me 2 days ago
And I had my first ever facial yesterday.. that might be a new routine!! I was so chilled afterwards!
