My pea wool tencel top arrived ( on one of the hottest days we've had for a while 🤣) but I would have bought it later anyway...along with the kindred gift of merino mix socks ...very pleased with them .
Also received the Hiko print PJ trousers.. ( however I think that they will be in a sale , but keeping anyway because, I want them for my next campervan trip)

@Laska2Meryls what is the pea green like? I bought one last week in Ink, which is lovely but a dark colour.

Saurus72 · 04/09/2023 13:22

I’m ordered a soap to get the Kindred socks! What’s the sizing like on those PJ trousers please @Laska2Meryls, and the length? They’re on my wish list, they look so lovely.

Laska2Meryls · 04/09/2023 13:34

Here's the pea wool top.. It looks about right on my screen.. its fine wool though and tbh I think finer that the previous versions I have.. but I only wear them as layering pieces.. size-wize definitely smaller than older versions.. I have had to go to XL 😐

PretLea · 04/09/2023 13:39

Thanks @Laska2Meryls I think the darker green might be a better colour on me. My Ink one is also thin, quite sheer in some lights, so will have to be for layering only.

Laska2Meryls · 04/09/2023 13:50

Hiko trousers are lovely, and will be even lovelier in a sale @Saurus72 .. I would normally have M in Toast pj trousers ( high st 12 in jeans) but these are not so generously cut.. reviews said the waistband was smaller than usual so again I sized up to XL ( and given that I have fenugreek balloon trousers in XS , they are not much different!!) but tbh I think that I could go down a size, but am probably not going to bother to exchange them .. but am visiting a Toast shop later in week so may try on smaller if they have them )
They are pj trousers after all , loose is the thing! ..
Waistband to hem 35in and above ankle on me ( 5'6)

Laska2Meryls · 04/09/2023 13:52

Hiko. Nice crisp cotton

Saurus72 · 04/09/2023 13:53

Thanks, they’re so beautiful. It’s a lot go pay for PJs but then I would expect to be wearing them for 10+ years so on that basis all good.

Laska2Meryls · 04/09/2023 14:11

I have just measured them against these three older pairs of Toast pj bottoms ( all in M ) and the Hiko XL are the same waist and leg width in two and just slightly smaller in one pair !! ( the blue spotted!) .
.

Laska2Meryls · 04/09/2023 14:17

The rust and blue chevron ones are really old but still going strong... I have been known to wear both of those out 😉.. great 'hot holiday' trousers, as would be the Hiko I think

Saurus72 · 04/09/2023 14:18

Thank you for your excellent customer service 😊. I guess we’ll just need to get used to the opposite of vanity sizing now…

dudsville · 04/09/2023 14:18

That's a very helpful but shocking comparison of measurements @Laska2Meryls !

oddandelsewhere · 04/09/2023 14:22

I have been so interested to read your views on wearing second hand clothes, this is something I could not do, but I don't think it's anything to do with poverty, or snobbery I think it's to do with a huge part of the pleasure of new clothes being in the choosing and buying them.

My earliest clothes buying memories are of spending Saturday s in Glasgow in Never Had It so Good 1960, my mother a tiny viking in shift dresses, channel jackets and kitten heels and me aged 4 also dressed to the nines. We tried lots on, and bought some things then ate at Wendy's tearoom before going home in her pale blue mini minor as the starlings swirled about in the sky.

Still most of the pleasure I have from clothes is the shopping experience, not just owning them!

clowniform · 04/09/2023 14:32

Ooh that shirtdress is popular, I really hope it works for me too (isn't too short)!

@Alpacasoft LOL at stereotype of cheap knitting, though things have possibly swung too far the other way now. Have sadly concluded that La Bien Aimée's free international shipping offer doesn't actually offset €400 for the rest of the jumper's worth of yarn....

Saurus72 · 04/09/2023 14:40

@oddandelsewhere I’m the same, especially now I’m sure of my style, know what I like and will wear and vice Versa. I’ve bought a few things from eBay but each time have never worn them and have re-sold them, it just costs me money and time.

dudsville · 04/09/2023 17:11

That's a beautiful recollection @oddandelsewhere.

For me, I had hand me downs and charity shop stuff as a kid. Once I got into my teens I would tinker with these things to make them look how I wanted. I then probably wasted about 15 of my adult shopping yrs on a fine wage, buying new but massively reduced and not very good quality stuff and feeling a bit lost in it all. And charity shops now remind me of that, rather than finding that perfect unique retro item, I feel surrounded by the crap I bought during those 15 yrs. Nowadays I have enough clothes so I try to keep my shopping to toast sales. But I bought 2 dresses off vinted a few weeks ago that are great - except one still smells of its previous home even though it's been washed 3 or 4 times. That reminds me to keep away from second hand.

@clowniform, it is neater overall that dress, the sleeves are bracelet length i think, but it still falls to below my knee at (not quite) 5'7".

Alpacasoft · 04/09/2023 17:18

I think I'm the opposite @oddandelsewhere
I loathe going shopping for clothes and haven't been for months and months.
Even my local toast is not particularly well stocked and I CBA to go trecking into town only to find they don't have my size.
I buy almost all my clothes online, mostly toast, a few things on various used garment sites and usually something well stalked that I missed out on .
I know exactly what suits me and can look at garment sizes and lengths objectively regarding ease etc
Yarn and fabric is a different matter .
I loooove a yarn shop
@clowniform I will pm you !

Stoic123 · 04/09/2023 17:40

I get as much pleasure from a successful preloved buy as I do a new one but the resales instead of returns are a pain (though I tend to get my money back). I'm wearing a preloved Leh Printed Shirt dress (pic) today which is lovely and cool.

I will be reducing my preloved buying in future though as my back catalogue wish list is much depleted.

@Stoic123 ooh lovely. Wondering if you got on eBay as I was watching this dress recently and it went for a bargain price!

Yes but bought it Spring last year - at a reasonable price (about £38 inc postage).

I do recommend it. Size down one for a relaxed fit (you wouldn't want it very fitted anyway). It's a great holiday dress and really versatile.

AmethystMoonShine · 04/09/2023 19:36

Another one here with that chalkboard dress @clowniform - I wear it a lot in Autumn and winter - enjoy :)

Snowyowl78 · 04/09/2023 19:41

Got an email from Cos today and they are doing almost exactly the same thing with the donating thing, except you get 10% off ‘a new item of your choice’. 10% isn’t very exciting for Cos because they often do a discount, but it would be good if toast could do something like that!

No1Mousie · 04/09/2023 19:59

Hello. and, help please! if anyone has a mo', Id be really grateful for your thoughts.

I have a family funeral to attend on the 14th and my 'funeral' dress no longer fits - more mysterious shrinkage ... I'm looking at the Franca indigo twill dress, but can't see from the photos what the fabric is like. If it's denim-y, then it won't work. Does anyone have it?

The other dresses I'm thinking about are the blue/slate Selma, or the navy seersucker Maya, but may need to disguise the décolletage a little on that one. Does anyone have these dresses, and might they do for a funeral?

Noodle421 · 04/09/2023 20:04

The Franca does look a tiny bit denim-y but only because of the colour I think. The fabric is very soft, drapes well and has an understated elegance.

Noodle421 · 04/09/2023 20:05

You might be better going for a dark blue but then I’m not sure of funeral etiquette these days.
