When you've a hair stylist I say keep your hair. 😂

justasking111 · 12/09/2023 22:06

I wonder how long princess Anne's hair is. It's still thick.

SenecaFallsRedux · 12/09/2023 22:07

I don't think there is an age to stop wearing long hair, and Kate has beautiful hair, but I do think that she looks more chic and elegant with shorter hair.

MotherofPearl · 12/09/2023 22:11

Another benefit of long hair is being able to create beautiful up-dos, especially tiara-worthy up-dos.

I'm several years older than Kate and my hair is only slightly shorter than hers. I find it much easier to style and manage than shorter hair (like a bob).

Lunde · 12/09/2023 22:17

I really like the shape of Meghan's dress but I don't like that the bodice doesn't fit properly and she's left it unbuttoned below the bustline as it spoils the overall effect.

themessygarden · 12/09/2023 22:18

I love Kates hair, its so healthy and glossy, but I do have a slight preference for when she has it blowdried straight.

Ohhh @SenecaFallsRedux you are not wrong about the shorter hair, I also love this ponytail style.

I really like Kate's trouser suit as it gives her a smart work look.

I personally think that Kate should rethink her hair. It's a tough one as her current style allows her to create formal updos. I actually think that she would look stunning with a longer length bob or even a fringe to frame her face.

KillingMeDeftly · 12/09/2023 22:31

Her hairstyle in the spotty dress photo and in this one too (both at Wimbledon, funnily enough) are my favourites on her. But not because of her age, I just think both cut and colour are good!

MotherofPearl · 12/09/2023 22:42

I do also love her hair in both of those Wimbledon - so glossy and bouncy.

KillingMeDeftly · 12/09/2023 22:49

I also liked both dresses. But she has never repeated them!!

justasking111 · 12/09/2023 22:57

Wonder if she'll keep it long forever. Daisy has

Princess Anne never seen a rear view.

KillingMeDeftly · 12/09/2023 22:58

Anne's hair always looks like it needs a deep conditioning treatment.

Papergirl1968 · 12/09/2023 23:15

I'm not wild about Kate's hair today. As someone commented in the Mail, it's a bit Jaclyn Smith in Charlie's Angels.

ArcaneWireless · 12/09/2023 23:25

I will not be cutting my long hair any time soon.

It may be grey, wiry and anti-mallen but I shove it up all the time for work, and when I get bald bits, I can create a cunning disguise.

I’ll admit it is not a crowning glory mop but it does me.

ArcaneWireless · 12/09/2023 23:26

Kate in the yellow and spotty frock? I do like her hair in both of those.

I've never understood this whole "older women shouldn't have long hair" thing. Kate isn't even that old - she's only 41!

I purposefully didn't stipulate an age. I think it varies from woman to woman, but every woman gets to that point eventually - be it 29, 40 or 80. I think Kate has reached it.
I'm not suggesting a pixie cut either, just something quite a bit shorter.

MrsLeonFarrell · 13/09/2023 07:00

I preferred Meghan's traveling ensemble. I don't really like that dress on her, it seems all bunchy on the top half. This was often my observation when she was a working royal as well, her more formal clothes, dresses particularly, don't seem to fit her properly. It's difficult though, I don't necessarily think a nice shift dress, which I have seen her look good in, is suitable for the occasion. Personally I think she does separates a lot better than dresses in general and casual far better than formal.

As for Catherine's hair, as someone whose hair won't grow past her shoulders, I have major hair envy!

KillingMeDeftly · 13/09/2023 07:23

The dress looks better in this full-length shot. It's also down to just $70 for anyone who wants to snap it up! https://bananarepublicfactory.gapfactory.com/browse/product.do?pid=818824#pdp-page-content

Not a fan of the frock sadly. For me, it doesn’t do wonders for her, cuts her off oddly and doesn’t make the most of her lovely figure.

That said, I’m not one for pleats as I’m heifer size. She’ll always look stunning next to me!

themessygarden · 13/09/2023 08:38

I really like the dress, I would love it for me, 🙂 but it does not fit her too well. I don't understand why she rarely manages to tailor her clothes so they fit properly.

She doesn't seem to rewear clothes either, I remember this green one was absolutely stunning and I think it would have suited this event perfectly.

I quite like the black dress but agree that there's something not quite right about the belt and the fit.

A matching shirt and skirt with a wider belt worn hi a little lower down would have worked better imho and would have achieved a similar look.

It is a big problem to get belted/fitted clothing fit well when you are short waisted as the outfit's waist does not sit on your own natural waist which leads to bunching or creasing. I know because I have this problem.

Also, another problem of mine, is that pleating can be a problem, especially if you aren't model height, because the extra pleated material makes you look wider at your hips/bum. I think added to the belt and the bodice not being fitted to her it gives an odd effect.

Of course a lot of this could be avoided if she had a clothes tailored to fit her properly. Does she borrow clothes from designers? Is this why she can't alter them to fit? I used to solve my own issues by taking stuff to a seamstress that used to work out of a dry cleaner in East London - I remember having an evening skirt tailored for £6 to my (then) 25" waist (god those were the days!!).

I think that Meghan could benefit from rethinking the shape of dresses she wears. I know from my own shape that less is more. It was a problem for me in the 80s when buttons, bows and frills were in, not to mention drop waists. I think the shape of the dress she wore was great if she could get the bodice to fit, lose the belt and buttons. She would also look good in fit and flare, tailored shifts and skater styles. I think she would also look great in boho blouses/shirts and tailored trousers (but they need to fit her and not swamp her).

I think that Princess Anne is a lady firmly stuck in the bouffant styles of her youth in the 1960s. I doubt anyone will persuade her to cut it now she is in her 70s, although I personally think she would look amazing with a shorter, modern style.

ArcaneWireless · 13/09/2023 11:09

Aye. Another one with a short waist.

As someone mentioned up thread with jumpsuits, if I’m not full of bloat, they do suit me and will sit right.

A couple of outfits - the Hertz frock and the stripey frock too - would have looked beyond knockout if she had had them tailored for her.

It does seem a shame when they are just slightly off when a few nips and tucks would rock the frock.

Kate seems to have nailed herself a brilliant tailor/seamstress (or team thereof).

Hopefully Meghan can find herself someone who can elevate her outfits from the good to the sublime. The lass has style. It just needs a wee gather up here and there.

MsMarch · 13/09/2023 11:31

Joining the "curse of the short waisted" women gang. I know from experience as well that often, at home, the dress looks good because I've adjusted it and pulled it into shape... only to realise an hour later than when I'm moving around it's got all messed up again and doesn't look great.

There is no question that Kate has better tailoring and someone who alters everything - even her £19.99 Zara stuff! She's also learnt how to adjust for her own long waist.
