Love CPM's jumpsuit... would love to see KM in a jumpsuit, she would look amazing! I don't recall ever seeing her wear one - happy to be corrected though! We were watching the news last night and even my DH (who never comments on the fashion choices of anyone let alone the royals) said 'why on earth is she wearing that in this heat' 😆

I wondered the same about Kate and jumpsuits but as someone else pointed out, she has quite a long torso so might struggle to find one that fits properly. Most jumpsuits appear to be cut for shorter torsos and longer legs.

Having said that, it's not like she couldn't get one custom-made!

But does that mean the ladies shouldn't wear ice blue or they should wear ice blue to coordinate with the Queen??

I would have taken it to mean that it would be inappropriate to wear an ice blue cocktail dress ("Off to the Tower with you..."). It's a problem if that's your favourite dress for the evening and you've now got to rummage through your bag for a suitable alternative.

Maybe it's also to help people in case they're not sure what to wear? eg if someone thought they had to wear floor length, or could wear what they did for afternoon tea.

It's certainly open to misinterpretation by the recipient, especially if it's their first trip to Balmoral!

Even if you only had an ice blue cocktail frock with you, it is likely to be significantly different.

And even if it were the exact same, I think she wouldn’t have batted an eyelid.

The stories I’ve heard up here suggests she put people completely at ease and was kind and sometimes a little mischievous.

I think if a note is left, it is simply to save you waltzing down to dinner full Cinderella when everyone else is in cocktail mode.

Not that it would have bothered her but I think to save any embarrassment to the guest for sticking out a bit.

Yes, she wouldn't have minded if someone wore similar. She was indeed famous for putting people at their ease. Her late father used to watch what cutlery people used at these events, and he'd use the same, so they weren't embarrassed by using the "wrong" fork or whatever.

In Michelle Obama's autobiography she talks about mentioning some bit of protocol to the Queen who told her something along the lines of "oh don't worry about that rubbish"!

Yes, I read that too! (Great book). I think Michelle got a bit anxious, didn't she? HM said just ignore it, it's nonsense!

I'm not a huge fan of the cut out shoulders but she looks very elegant in (nautical) navy and white and I like the detail and the block-heeled sandals.

I know the thread has moved on but that photo of Charlene (the one with safari barbie :) ) is the best I've ever seen her look.

Loved the sapphire story too. Queen Elizabeth really did dress superbly as a young woman and as an older woman too.
