This time I’m really going to do it!

I’ve just received a copy of the curated closet which I am going to read from cover to cover. I’m going to donate or sell at least a 1/3rd of my clothes. I’ve booked a styling appointment at John Lewis for later in the autumn. I will only buy new clothes if they 1. Fit 2. Suit me and 3. Suit my lifestyle.
This time I’m going to do it. No excuses!

Does anyone want to join me?

nzeire · 08/08/2023 12:03

I want to know why?!

CuratedAndRated · 08/08/2023 12:13

Good for you.

I may just join you.

50fedup · 08/08/2023 12:18

Why? My wardrobe(s) is full to the brim. I have clothing from size 10 to 16 even though I’ve been a sturdy 14 for years. I wear the same 5 outfits on rotation.
I think I must have 30+ items of clothing with the tags still on. 😬

OP posts:
50fedup · 08/08/2023 12:20

The plan is to sell my bnwt clothes on Vinted to fund the JL styling shop. 30+ items out and 2-3 quality items in. Well that’s the plan anyway.

OP posts:
NoAprilFool · 08/08/2023 12:22

Yes, me!!
I’d love to join you.

nzeire · 08/08/2023 12:27

Oh wow! 30 items with tags on?!

Allthefeel · 08/08/2023 12:29

I did similar during covid and no regrets! I finally sorted the many bags in the attic and in my wardrobe of stuff that I'd loved in the past but realistically wouldn't ever wear again- I did: donate, sell, recycle and it felt weird at first but good. I made more than I thought using vinted, and now I have good quality clothes I love (just less of them) I wish I'd done it sooner.

SindyisbetterthanBarbie · 08/08/2023 12:33

nzeire I feel Style & Beauty may not be the best topic for you...

50fedup · 08/08/2023 12:33

@Allthefeel thats exactly what I want achieve. I have so many clothes that don’t fit or don’t fit in with my lifestyle. I’m addicted to a bargain. This has to stop! A small quantity of good quality clothing at full price😬 from now on.

OP posts:
Summerhillsquare · 08/08/2023 12:44

Would love to but not ready to let go of my vinted addiction just yet!

50fedup · 08/08/2023 12:49

@Summerhillsquare yes, Vinted is quite addictive isn’t it. I’ve sold £118 since I joined, but have probably spent more than that on (crap) I don’t need. No more Vinted purchases from now on…..

Cyclingmummy1 · 08/08/2023 12:51

I'll be doing it when I go into my winter wardrobe. It definitely focused me for spring/summer.

50fedup · 08/08/2023 12:57

@CuratedAndRated @NoAprilFool @Cyclingmummy1 right! Let’s do it. 😀

LifeofBrienne · 08/08/2023 13:05

@SindyisbetterthanBarbie That was a bit snarky! Is this board only for people who buy lots of clothes they never wear?

Fannyfiggs · 08/08/2023 13:11

Oooh I've just bought the Curated Closet too so I'm in.

HotPringles · 08/08/2023 13:26

@SindyisbetterthanBarbie why?
Do you have to buy clothes you dont wear even ONCE to be stylist and in fashion?

What a weird way to look at life.

donutosaurus · 08/08/2023 13:28

I could have written your post op!

I cleared out 5 bin bags of clothes which don't fit which is mortifying.

I'm going to Google the Curated Closet now and already have a plan for when I return from my holiday!

Good luck!!

ChippyTea16 · 08/08/2023 13:36

I think @SindyisbetterthanBarbie was replying to the poster asking why the OP is doing this!

OP I'm in too I just bought the book a few days ago too! I also did a big EBay clear out this weekend and feel so much better! I was really ruthless and have removed anything that doesn't fit well, I don't love or has tags on that I've never worn and I also intend to read the book and only have stuff in my wardrobe I will and can wear.

I also looked at Anuschka's website and she does a digital colours service so I signed up for that too and hoping to only start buying stuff that will suit me.

I'm amazed that even though I've literally been through everything now, I am still struggling to put outfits together so I do think I need to invest in some good quality items that go with everything (I can't bring myself to say 'pieces' 😂)

50fedup · 08/08/2023 13:51

Well hello @Fannyfiggs @donutosaurus @ChippyTea16 and anyone else I’ve missed (sorry - bloody ipad). I’m on holiday next week and will be reading the book and preparing notes, so hopefully, I’ll be ready to list more items on Vinted when I return. So far today I have filled a charity bag with clothes and shoes.

OP posts:
OneFrenchEgg · 08/08/2023 13:52

I did this, years ago dh let me try on every item in my wardrobe and we realised what looks good and what doesn't. For Christmas he gave me Zara vouchers and I topped up.
Now I know what colours, styles abd size to buy - so much nicer.

50fedup · 08/08/2023 13:55

@OneFrenchEgg yes! That’s exactly it! No more purchasing unsuitable stuff. And when I say stuff I also mean house tat - that’s a whole new thread 🙄

OP posts:
donutosaurus · 08/08/2023 13:59

I am so with you!

My youngest is starting preschool and I'm returning to work but will have 1 day per week to focus on me/the house (including housework) so want to get decluttered including my wardrobe, house bits and baby bits.

I'm taking a little by little approach ..

  • small calorie deficit
  • 1 cupboard/drawer/bag at a time to declutter

Etc so that I can achieve my goals but keep it manageable.

I have a habit of going 110% and then giving up after I've made more mess than there was originally because I become overwhelmed. It's one of my biggest weaknesses.

I've ordered the book and the workbook and like you will take it on holiday with me!

Cyclingmummy1 · 08/08/2023 14:04

Do not buy anything else until you have read the book and done the exercises.

I had an online sale shopping spree last week - and I've sent most of it back because it didn't suit me perfectly or it didn't go with other pieces (😆) I own.

I found the whole process quite liberating and am looking forward to doing it again.

Fannyfiggs · 08/08/2023 14:08

I don't mean to derail the thread but it is kinda related..

Where is best to sell clothes etc. Vinted or eBay?

SindyisbetterthanBarbie · 08/08/2023 14:09

I think @SindyisbetterthanBarbie was replying to the poster asking why the OP is doing this!

Thank you, yes I was!

@HotPringles What a weird response l. Somebody questioned why the OP could possibly want to streamline her wardrobe and only buy things she needed, and get styling advice. As this is a style and beauty topic, I don't see anything wrong with wondering why they would question that and there's nothing wrong with the way I look at life thanks!
