Opinion on this M&S dress

I just bought this dress at M&S. Mainly because it is cotton and I was delighted it was the right length (I'm 5ft 2). There were other dresses I preferred but were ridiculously long.

I'm not sure. It seems simultaneously infantile and similar to my mother's nightdresses. I'm 54. I like the fit though and the colour, I'm a few pounds overweight but I downsized a bit so it's fitted over the bust, like with the model. I think they intend it to be a lot more oversized than that - I bought a 6 which I most definitely am not.

I'll most probably keep it anyway as I don't have any loose dresses, but curious as to people's opinions.

It's so bad that I can't find the words so I'll just leave a picture ...

I quite like it. I would wear it with super chunky sandals so it doesn't look twee.

3luckystars · 30/07/2023 16:05

It’s awful.
If it doesn’t look amazing on a model like that, forget it.(and it looks like a nightdress on the model)
Its really the worst I have seen of these floral dresses. Awful.

I love it

continentallentil · 30/07/2023 16:07

I don't think it looks all that great on the models which is never a good sign.

HOWEVER, if you've bought it to be cut smaller maybe it does work.

But I think it's the combination of shapelessness and busy-ditsy-printness that make it very damart nightie, so tighter might get rid of that.. but maybe give it a second cold light of day look before you rip of the price tags.

Oh Lordy, that’s not nice imho. TBF I hate most dresses out at the moment, hideous floral puff sleeve tiers and nonsense - what a time to be alive.

Yes I've left the tags on for now, it's hanging on the back of my wardrobe so I can take in the full glory of it as I wake every morning.

I work in an extremely casual office for the PP that mentioned it, could definitely wear it there.

The print is not good and I don’t mind a floral dress.

IsThePopeCatholic · 30/07/2023 17:49

It’s so difficult finding cotton dresses. I like this one but definitely needs chunky sandals.

Saverage · 30/07/2023 18:04

I like that one. I saw others in M&S I liked and a couple in Sainsbury's. They are all so bloody long though. I could buy one and get it shortened but I'm losing weight and will eventually get back into my older dresses (that don't look like nighties) so it seems a waste of money, and it isn't possible to easily shorten those tiered ones to the length I want.

Sorry OP, but in my humble opinion it hideous, and very nightie'ish. Sorry.
It reminds me of that David Walliams sketch......

I see your point.

These are the other 2 I liked that were floor length on me. I see online they do have them in petite. Hmmm.

Reminds me of nighties my gran wore- it's not my cup of tea but it doesn't matter OP - all that matters is if you like it

Saverage · 30/07/2023 18:15

Thanks @CherryMaDeara those are pretty dresses

@Saverage sorry. M & S do have some gorgeous dresses and I'm sure you will find one that looks gorgeous on you x

Crikeyalmighty · 30/07/2023 18:20

In all honesty I hate the look that's around that's a bit little house on the prairie- only tends to look semi ok if you are tall and thin

SwedishEdith · 30/07/2023 18:21

Laughing at '100+ people are looking at this dress right now '.

No worries! Looking out at the rain right now I don't know why I'm so keen to buy summer dresses anyway!

It's going to be all the rage, I tell you. Glad I got in sharpish.

The second and third dresses you posted are much better OP.

The first dress print and shape has been tweaked from a 70s/80s back catalogue of M&S (St Michael). All it needs is a candle in a candlestick and slippers.
