Thread to discuss and compare 2023 Beauty Advent contents. Started because Liberty has already published their contents.

I'm just not feeling it with any of the calendars so far this year. I think it's at least partly because it's only August and winter is the last thing I want to think about.

TragicMuse · 13/08/2023 13:56

I was saving all my Liberty BD for the calendar but I think I'm going to see what shows up in the anticipated September GWP.

I had the M&S one a few years ago, and an ASOS one a while back and both were lovely. The Liberty one was always my holy grail and I enjoyed it, quite a lot went into the family Christmas stockings and I think I'm ok for 'luxe' now. I can probably go with M&S and still enjoy it...

What is the anticipated GWP usually like please?

Nanasueathome · 13/08/2023 19:06

The GWP is usually a spend £175ish on products of your choice and then receive free products to the value of around £450.
I’ve gone with that in the past rather than the advent calendar as you can choose the products to purchase rather than random selection.
I have saved previous empty advent calendar boxes and use those products to fill them. I usually give my daughter one as her advent calendar and my grandson insists on another…but prefers his filled with lego

CB have got a preview.

EasterIssland · 14/08/2023 07:50

I initially likes the space nk one but the more I look into it the less I like it. So far not keen on any

rainbowstream · 14/08/2023 07:57

I’ve bought beauty advent calendars for many years but I’m not feeling any of them so far this year. I’m interested in what JL has to offer though, as that’s been my favourite for the past couple of years.

I might buy a cross stitch calendar instead.

Squishmymallow · 14/08/2023 08:08

Hmmm I loved CB last year but nothing in that sneak peek looks very tempting to me. Definitely hoping that JL will pull it out of the bag (or even M&S) otherwise it might just be a chocolate calendar for me this year!

loz12345 · 14/08/2023 08:20

@rainbowstream i am with you I am gutted the Bothy threads advent has sold out - put it off thinking I would get a beauty one and think it may have been an error

Mydogisamentalist · 14/08/2023 08:35

Hmmm, I’m feeling lukewarm on the CB sneak preview. I love Glow Recipe and that moisturiser has been in my basket a few times but it’s travel size. Love Sunday Riley but I have quite a few glycolic products I need to use up. The candle does sound lovely.

There was a Roen eyeshadow palette in a previous CB advent and I thought it was awful. It had no pigment! Much prefer the look of the Charlotte Tilbury quad in Space NK. Not a fan of Olaplex or eye masks, the other product I’ve never heard of.

At the moment I feel like Space NK might end up being this years winner.

Hi fellow cross stitcher! I’m gutted I missed out too - twice! There’s a caterpillar cross stitch one that I’m tempted by though, and I do love their needle minders.

loz12345 · 14/08/2023 08:54

@rainbowstream - I always forget about them but they do really cute needle minders - the make arcade usually do one too I think so had my eye on that one but I think it’s more sewing and making a Xmas ornament per day, although I am tempted by the Space NK & think I might wait for JL before deciding

TheDuchessOfMN · 14/08/2023 09:01

Nothing too exciting in the Cult sneak peak, but I think they generally keep their best for the final reveal. There seems to be Olaplex in every calendar now.

Puravida23 · 14/08/2023 09:28

Mmm Cult Beauty. Candle looks nice and I haven’t tried anything from Glow Recipe. But really another neutral eyeshadow pallette and olaplex no 3!
And I definately don’t need any supergel in my life.
Holding on to the fact there are supposed to be 39 items in this advent so there will be items I won’t like but slightly nervous Cult Beauty may also be a no from me
Also praying JL on even better M&S pull it out the bag and there are still possibly the likes of Selfridges, Flannels, Elle, Latest in Beauty, Net a Porter, Sephora so plenty still to reveal .
Just wish they would hurry up as my back up is make my own from beauty boxes, GWPs but can’t afford to do both so holding out buying any more beauty until I know either way

BaconAndAvocado · 14/08/2023 09:37

Is the M and S one worth getting?

Never having had a Beauty Advent Calendar, I imagine you might get a couple of nice bits but then a load of tut (rhymes with put).

CorneliaStreet · 14/08/2023 09:53

I quite fancy getting a body care/home fragrance one this year, like White Company or Rituals. I’m more likely to actually use everything that way. The White Company always seems to put in a gua sha though, which irritates me.

Possimpible · 14/08/2023 10:02

Ah see I like the look of the CB one. That could be a definite maybe for me depending on the other contents. I had a Roen eyeshadow in a previous calendar and liked it - tbh I'm just relieved it's not another Charlotte Tilbury quad! Last year it felt like every other calendar had one in it. I also have lots of glycolic acid treatments though, and would prefer a bigger candle, so will reserve judgement.

Also keen to see what Flannels, LiB and JL have, but it is still early

LemonJuiceFromConcentrate · 14/08/2023 10:41

I wonder if Liberty will do a jewellery one again this year.

RotundRuby · 14/08/2023 10:52

FFS Olaplex again! CB looks a bit of a letdown already, Good Genes is not a product I would recommend and another eyeshadow palette in browns/bronzes? I'll wait for the other 35 to be unveiled but a bit concerning that these are supposed to be the tempting bits!

I'm typically tempted by the candle but I love a candle and I bloody love chestnuts 😁

I was actually looking at the JO Loves AC yesterday, but at £365 think its excessive. Apparently includes a voucher for 100ml perfume though...

notanicepersonapparently · 14/08/2023 11:22

@BaconAndAvocado Ive only had the M&S one once (last year) and it had a good mix of products some own brand and some not. There’s a thread from last year with a day by day reveal and reviews if you want to get a flavour of what people thought.
At a similar price there is Holland and Barret. No make up in that one - more skin and body care. I had that one twice and really rated it for value for money

Possimpible · 14/08/2023 11:36

@BaconAndAvocado Whether it's worth it or not is so individual - I wouldn't buy one of the advent calendars without checking out the contents because it's a gamble. But given the price point of M&S, it's one of the few I'd consider gambling on if you wanted a surprise. All the contents are nice and generally useable though, there will always be things that some people like and some people don't like, but it's never full of crap.

Speaking of H&B, I bought an Upcircle cleanser from TK Maxx because I recognised the brand from the H&B calendars. It's awful! So greasy and has broken me out in spots when my skin is generally clear.

BaconAndAvocado · 14/08/2023 12:41

Possimpible
You’re certainly right about products suiting some and not others!

I started using the Upcircle skincare range about a month ago and I love it. It’s really improved the appearance of my skin and the products smell gorgeous ❤️

notanicepersonapparently
Like the sound of the Holland and Barrett one.

BaconAndAvocado · 14/08/2023 12:41

Can anyone recommend an AC for a 15 yo girl who is quite savvy about beauty products but I don’t want to spend the earth!

Peridot1 · 14/08/2023 12:50

@BaconAndAvocado this is the M&S from last year.

That website has all of the advent calendar details. There is a Benefit one that might work for your 15 year old. Or the Anthropology one?

MavisMcMinty · 14/08/2023 12:54

I had a Benefit 12-day AC last year and it was really good, I use everything in it except the ubiquitous BLACK EYELINER. Got it cheap after Christmas, or I might not have bought it, but it’d be great for a 15-year old who likes makeup.

BaconAndAvocado · 14/08/2023 12:58

Thanks all.
The M and S one seems brilliant value compared to some others I’ve been looking at.
Is it something that sells out immediately?

Just had a gander at the Next £95, which also looks grand.

Does anyone know how much the Sephora one was last year? DD often orders from their website.

I’m getting strangely, and very prematurely, excited!

Its my birthday on Friday.....I might request a belated present fo an AC when they come out !
