Thread to discuss and compare 2023 Beauty Advent contents. Started because Liberty has already published their contents.

I'm thinking I'll go for Anthropologie and M&S this year. I had both last year and enjoyed them. I also had Origins and Cowshed neither of which were as good, I think I probably need to avoid single brand calendars.

FragranceAddict · 05/08/2023 10:15

Can anyone please tell me how to preorder the Harrods fragrance AC, or is it sold out already?

AprilLady · 05/08/2023 10:19

@FragranceAddict looks like it is sold out - showing as OOS on the website unfortunately.

FragranceAddict · 05/08/2023 10:21

Thank you AprilLady, I wondered if I was looking in the wrong place.

TreesinthePark · 05/08/2023 10:40

@SwordBilledHummingbird I've never tried a single brand AC before. The only one that tempted me last year was Rituals but they were so stubborn on reducing the price, never went low enough for me to justify buying it.

Peridot1 · 05/08/2023 10:54

Loving your spreadsheet @AprilLady.

Like most of you nothing is grabbing me yet this year. And I think it’s partly due to how much stuff I already have and the predictability of most of the calendars now. I joined the Liberty Beauty Drop to save for the calendar but can’t really see myself getting it now.

I do love having a calendar to open in December though so may get a cheaper one. Possibly M&S or similar. Possibly Sephora if they do one.

FredaFox · 05/08/2023 11:53

I also joined beauty drop for the ac but I can easily spend my rewards on presents

Last 2 years I've had Selfridges so will see what they offer but I'm keen to see the JL I think

Passmeaplacard · 05/08/2023 12:09

At the moment I’m not feeling impressed by any of the more expensive ones.
I had Liberty and John Lewis last year and I’ve used far more from JL. Pinning my hopes on that currently, plus last year I got a GWP and a price difference refund when they lowered the price

Nuffaluff · 05/08/2023 13:01

I will probably go for John Lewis again this year. I got it when it was reduced to £152.
Before last Christmas I’d always had M and S but it got too samey and all the things are very small.
I am still using some of the stuff from JL so it’s been really good value for me. The moisturisers have lasted me from Christmas until now! I’m nearly finished with the Sunday Riley one, which I adore.

This year is interesting. For me there is no stand out so far. Harrods probably has the most items I would love to try or do love. But it also has 7 or 8 doors of stuff I have loads of or don’t like/need ( REN tonic, Bobbi brown, NARS I could go on) so would be looking at giving away or selling ( would that happen or will it linger in a box?) .
I will see what Cult or John Lewis brings but I am not hopeful for John Lewis unless they really mix it up.
They tend to be quite formulaic like Liberty with the same brands appearing (neom, floral street, elemis, aromatherapy associates, Charlotte tilbury) all great brands but no excitement with the odd curve ball thrown in . Fingers crossed they pull it out the bag this year
Otherwise I may just get a cheapie for the novelty. I am quite drawn to the Anthropology calander at the moment . Small sizes but nice mix of stuff i would use or the old faithful M&S

Agree about JL. Really good value for money and a great first luxury calender for someone but I felt a bit of déjà vu when opening last year.

To add to your mentioned brands - they'll be a Molton Brown shower gel, something from Sunday Riley and a Mac lipstick.

I got the most expensive one, the premium one, in February or March this year - I think it went to half price or close to it. It was sold out very quickly. I didn't think I'd get it as they didn't budge on the price for months. Opening it this Advent.

magicalkitty · 05/08/2023 18:36

The 2022 calendar is still around, but it's still approx £70.

GentlemanJack · 05/08/2023 18:43

The Debenhams advent might be worth a look at- if they do one this year. I got it half price last time and whilst it wasn't exciting, everything was used and enjoyed so good value.

QueefofSheena · 05/08/2023 19:49

IIRC John Lewis slashed the price of the Rituals calendars instore only, a few days before Christmas.

I got Debenhams cheaply too and thought it was good for the price. I really liked the Versace perfume and wore it over Christmas.

I got the premium one on offer just before Christmas and opened in January (actually I gave up halfway through the month because the cardboard tree fell apart so I just opened all of them!) It was good value on sale especially as Rituals prices have gone up loads since then.

I had Clinique last Christmas which was a head over heart choice. Bit dull but I've used everything in it and I knew my skin wouldn't react to anything.

Don't know if I'll be able to justify the cost of a calendar for this year. I hope there's some good offers on.

TreesinthePark · 05/08/2023 20:53

I definitely need to keep up with thread and hopefully find out when the discounts happen!

Witchinawell · 05/08/2023 21:14

Checking in. Ended up with three ACs last year. Latest in beauty was v good. Really want the Harrod’s scent one this year.

PawPrintsInMyPansies · 05/08/2023 21:16

this thread is great. Sadly, nothings grabbed me yet.

MavisMcMinty · 05/08/2023 21:34

I really like LiB, as a fairly new subscriber. I did struggle to fill this month’s box but that’s ‘cos I have so many things already, and have had several of their “edits”. I’ll probably buy their AC blind to the contents.

Giftwithpurchase · 06/08/2023 13:41

I do feel like Space NK have upped their game this year - feels like they've tried to add in new brands and change things up a bit but it's still not grabbing me for the price

There are also a lot more full sizes too. All the small sizes put be off it last year. Even though it has a higher like to dislike ratio than CB, I bought CB.

TheDuchessOfMN · 07/08/2023 13:24

I like Space NK the best so far too. It will be hard to know what to do this year - order straight away or hang about for a reduction. I think I got it at 20% off or so last year.
I still use the skincare every day.

Im going to wait for the 20% off if sold out by then we’ll I’ve got a box of stash to still go through so not end of the world.

RotundRuby · 07/08/2023 14:53

I really want to see JL, CB and Net-a-porter but I'm slowly cobbling together my own calendar and am surprised by how much I'm enjoying that so may skip buying one all together, or buy reduced for next year.

MavisMcMinty · 07/08/2023 15:33

I’m going to go through my birthday haul later, and reckon I could put together several advent calendars “worth” £1000+ each.
