Boden amelie dress

Until I can get the amelie Boden dress (pre order only at moment ) could anyone suggest similar please and similar price point?
I'm going for lunchtime cocktails in a couple of weeks and really would like something like this. I'm not going to a particularly fancy place but I'm old and thought this style is flattering and not too fussy! What footwear would go with it?

Look on Live Unlimited , their dresses are often reduced on John Lewis.

Honestly? I am almost certainly a hundred years older than you - and that dress is frankly horrible. Hate the way the thin fabric clings over the chest. (Meaning most underwear seams will be apparent.) Weird, unflattering waist thing going on. And then the unconvincingly flared skirt? Someone gave the AI a severe beating before it came up with that.

What size are you?

I have it in like 3 different colours, I’m mid 30s size 14-16 and think it looks quite flattering 🤷‍♀️ never had an issue with my bra being on show either!

what do you mean it’s on pre order, when I googled it it came up in loads of colours at various stores. Is it a particular colour you want?

I noticed some combinations of size and colour aren’t currently available.

I’m 30 and have a couple for work, they’re really nice! Haven’t noticed the top being especially thin either

Well here it is. It doesn't look particularly thin. It's a bit bland but otherwise inoffensive. If you showed me a picture without telling me where it came from I'd have said it's an ok everyday casual dress from Tu, George or Florence and Fred. It doesn't look as if it costs £80 full price or £55 in the sale

I'm size 12 most makes and 5' 7". @WhatWillIWear Oh no, you don't like! I suit that sort of shape. Really glad others like it. I looked at the Boden web site but will check out other stores. I thought maybe the navy polka dot or maybe plain black with my favourite silver necklace? I'll look at Live unlimited , thank you.
Can you tell I'm panicking, just never know what to wear these days and I've googled my eyes out looking.

I just checked the website and with the exception of the rather bilious green colourway, your size is in stock in all of the six or seven other colours. Are you not in the UK? Or perhaps you’ve got a website issue.

@WhatWillIWear Thanks for helping ! I love the navy slash neck dress but the model is 5 11 it says, and I think the dress length would be too much on me. I' m not keen on shirt style dress as (only my opinion) I think they can be frumpy on older ladies.

Youre 5 ft 7, you can wear anything. And if a dress is too long one takes it to the alterations place in town to be shortened.

You’re wrong about shirt dresses. And they’re fashionable at the moment. Go to a fashionable shop and trust what they offer.

How old are you? (I have a senior railcard and wouldn’t touch that Boden dress with someone else’s barge pole. The last dress I bought - recently - was from Loulou Studio. Bargain in the sales. Arrived within 26 hours from Paris. Staggeringly chic. Fits perfectly. (I’m 5ft 3-ish but a) don’t mind things long, b) keep a tailor on hand …)

I was lucky, I had just bought a white stuff linen dress, loved it and immediately wanted the black, but they did it have it in my size. I went on eBay and there it was!

I'm 64 and I would wear any of WhatWillIWear's suggestions except the* *short one and the jumpsuit. I've never liked short dresses or jumpsuits.

I would wear the Boden dress if my luggage went missing and I needed something urgently and it were the only thing available and if it were half the price Boden is asking for it.

It's become cool on here to sneer at Seasalt but I agree. They have some pretty jersey dresses which are both nicer and slightly cheaper than the Boden dress.

A word of warning. The 2023 Amelie dress is completely different to previous years. It is shorter, thinner, much lighter weight and the waistband is higher. I’ve sent mine back even after buying a size, and then two sizes bigger.

@ThinkingAgainAndAgain Good advice, no good if the material is thin and cheap! I do really like the &other stories navy ruched shoulder dress. I can get it shortened , hopefully in time! Thanks so much everyone.

I think a jumpsuit would be much trendier than the Boden dress. Plenty on M&S within your price range:
