Until I can get the amelie Boden dress (pre order only at moment ) could anyone suggest similar please and similar price point?
I'm going for lunchtime cocktails in a couple of weeks and really would like something like this. I'm not going to a particularly fancy place but I'm old and thought this style is flattering and not too fussy! What footwear would go with it?

Another fan of the navy slash neck dress here! Sadly they do't go up to size 18. Anybody know where I could get something similar? Thanks!

I had the Amelie dress, I should theoretically have loved it but it just didn't look right on me. The material was great though (bought 2019). I sold it on Vinted for a pittance a few weeks ago on absolutely perfect condition. Not sure I even remember wearing it out of the house.

On the right person I think it could look great. I am a bit out of love with Boden at the moment though and my budget has nosedived somewhat towards the Primark end of the market Sad

I'm not sure I would want to be going out for lunchtime cocktsils in a hard to go to the loo in jumpsuit Grin

I'm size 12 most makes and 5' 7". @WhatWillIWear Oh no, you don't like! I suit that sort of shape. Really glad others like it. I looked at the Boden web site but will check out other stores. I thought maybe the navy polka dot or maybe plain black with my favourite silver necklace? I'll look at Live unlimited , thank you.
Can you tell I'm panicking, just never know what to wear these days and I've googled my eyes out looking.

Seasalt do nice jersey dresses too

Super frumpy!

Super frumpy!

Bingo!

Not all Seasalt clothes are super frumpy. I hate that word. It should be banned on S and B.

I've got the polka dot Roman dress which @GrinAndVomit linked to above. I wear it to work, so to me it shouts "office clothes". It is really comfortable and very forgiving. I'm a 14 and it is true to size.

The OP has said she doesn't like shirt dresses. I'm with her on that. I have a large bust (34E) and most shirt dresses gape at the bust unless I go up one or two sizes - at which point they become completely shapeless on my lower half.

Agreed ! It's also completely meaningless.

It's trotted out as if it were the last word on any dress or brand. I don't use it but if I did, it wouldn't be the generally pretty if not the most exciting dresses in the world on Seasalt. Many of the polyester monstrosities that appear on wedding guest and special occasion threads are far more deserving.

I think those tend to look matronly not frumpy

John Lewis (online) has masses of dresses that are in the sale @Elodie09

Look at Whistles, Hush, Nobody's Child, Jigsaw, And/Or, etc.
It's also easy to refine the searches for length, sleeves, neckline, colours.

feellikeanalien · 23/07/2023 14:53

I actually like the red one more.

FlannelandPuce · 24/07/2023 11:03

I like wearing the amelie dress, I am tall with a size G bust, and this dress is flattering on me as the waist band is thicker so catches my natural waist ( bigger bust = dresses being pulled up so waist is higher), and the flared skirt balances my top heaviness, plus Jersey stretches so I don't have to upsize to get a dress that fits.

Shirt dresses and jumpsuits are out as one gaps and the other is generally too short in the body as there is a bigger bust to cope with. The shapeless dresses people have mentioned would do nothing for me either except make me look pregnant/like Vera. Boden do long sizes too which are a blessing

Point is horses for courses. We are all different sizes and shapes and suit different things. That's life!!

Look on Vinted for old Amelie dresses, which is what I am resorting to. Lola is like gold dust, it is very similar to Amelie but has a v neck and is very flattering too.

Elodie09 · 24/07/2023 15:07

@FlannelandPuce Thank you! I will have a look on vinted and I agree with you that the heavy, square-ish shaped dresses are not for everyone.
I have the amelie dress coming from the lovely@itsyourrecordsale,
Thank you !
