It’s a no from me too.

Like others, there’s not enough in there to justify the spend when it could go on things I actually want.

I wonder if launching it at this time of year has also had an impact, although it does feel very autumnal out at the moment.

I’ll probably wait for the sales to spend my credit.

Cockle1234 · 01/08/2023 20:23

I'm really disappointed. I save my credits just for the advent calendar, but there's no way I can justify it this year - there's only three things that excite me in the whole thing. I have no idea what to do with my savings now, I'm feeling a bit distraught Gin

DaisyDando · 01/08/2023 20:49

I think the calendar looks really fabulous. I’ve never had a Liberty one, and I probably won’t get this one, but it does look great!

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 01/08/2023 20:58

I’m not spending £240 on that. Disappointing as I only joined to save for this. Have to find something else to spend my credit on. ☹️

listsandbudgets · 01/08/2023 21:21

I'm now looking forward to seeing what Fortnums have to offer and also contemplating a look at the Harrods one. I am inclined to save credits for a good sale bargain after Christmas

Reinventinganna · 01/08/2023 21:34

I’m torn. I like it but do I really like it? Dh wants to buy it for me but I think I would rather he just buy the bits that I like.

mejustmenothingtobe · 01/08/2023 22:23

I just feel that there has been a little bit of assumption o the part of Big L that we are ‘in the bag’ already wrt the advent calendar. I bought it about five years ago for the first time and it was just fabulous, really treaty. Sadly each year it fades a tiny bit. That might be me getting spoilt and expecting too much but there is a little tinge of being taken for granted. I have had the Fortnums one before and the Space NK one and I did M&S last year (believe me I am not well off) and each of those seemed to try harder. I can’t afford another calendar from anywhere else but I don’t want to waste my money so I predict
my family etc will be getting their presents from La Liberty this year and I will go back to Marks or similar. Sigh.

Pinkitydrinkity · 01/08/2023 22:29

I have never bought an advent calendar before and love the thought of it, but there just isn’t enough in the Liberty one that would make me drop £240 😬

On the upside, it means I’ll have £100 of credit to use on more Monica Vinader in December!

MaggyNoodles · 02/08/2023 04:53

Newby here. What's a GWP?

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 02/08/2023 06:19

Gift with purchase.

For years I only ever bought the M&S calendar and was very happy with it.

Then last year I bought the Liberty AC because I had BD credit. I also bought the Harvey Nichols AC partly due to getting excited in this thread and a treat to myself for getting a new job. It was such a treat openining one in the morning and another after work.

I rarely see the Harvey Nicks calendar mentioned here but it was lovely. I think people were put off by all the treatment vouchers but I ignored them completely in my decision to buy and was still happy. I actually live near a Harvey Nicks but knew I wouldn't go in to use them or pass them on (noone in my real life cares about this stuff!).

@WeAreBorg I would recommend looking at Harvey Nicks. I was very happy with it at the time although admittedly I now have products where I can't remember if they're from the Liberty or HN advent.

I also bought the 2021 Net-a-Porter advent last month for around £80 and it was absolutely not worth the original full price at all. I can justify the sale price for a couple of specific products I like but as an AC overall it's quite underwhelming.

TreesinthePark · 02/08/2023 07:52

Sorry my post above really overlaps with the AC thread, I'm on both and may be muddling conversations.

NotMyDayJob · 02/08/2023 08:08

This is the second year I have saved my BD credit but think I won't buy the cali. It's the wrong time of year for me, I go on holiday next week so I'm not thinking about buying an advent calendar. Plus I need a few more months to make the calendar not too expensive on top of the beauty drop. Even with the £10 off

WeAreBorg · 02/08/2023 09:06

@TreesinthePark thank you that’s really helpful! Interesting re the vouchers aspect as yes that would have probably made me dismiss it but I shall check it out. Exciting! Probs should start saving for Christmas really…

redredwineub40 · 02/08/2023 10:10

I had the Harvey Nicks calendar, I did like it but didn’t get round to using the vouchers so was t fully worth it - wish they’d had longer expiries as by the time I checked a lot were already gone. But I did get nice products.

I agree: I think they see us as an easy win in terms of calendar sales. However, I think in reality it's actually the opposite. Having had three boxes already this year I feel I've had a tiny bit of the fix a calendar provides and can see there is a lot of overlap between the boxes and the calendar so am less interested than I would otherwise have been.

I might buy the Latest In Beauty on again this year because it was for the most part full sizes and you only had to like four or five to cover the cost and then some.

Moonlightsonatas · 02/08/2023 11:19

It’s a shame, I was saving my credit to go towards the calendar but it just doesn’t feel like it has the value this year. I’ll try and pop into the shop when they have a sale on and get myself some treats instead.

PacificState · 02/08/2023 12:37

I've ordered - had the BD credit saved up and mostly happy with what's in it. Genuinely looking forward to the hair clips (have very thick and unruly hair and most hair clips are horrid), like the look of the bracelet, need a handbag mirror, and very glad not to have another flipping bag because I could already start an Etsy store for cosmetic bags. Love Luna, Oi, RoseInc, Vilhelm perfume sounds good, always up for face creams and serums and perfume samples.

Agree it's not as exciting as the Liberty calendars from about five or six years ago but suspect they'd have to increase the price considerably if they were to match those now.

But for Liberty I suspect they don't care whether you go calendar or GWP or just ordinary purchase - the money's going back to them one way or the other. I also suspect all the calendar brands will be producing less stock this year after the number that they had to discount last year.

listsandbudgets · 02/08/2023 14:03

I am looking for seated Queen cold cream and for some reason Liberty don't seem to have it at the moment.

However, I did notice that the Here Comes the Bridge kit has been reduced to £75 for £125.

listsandbudgets · 02/08/2023 14:04

^^Bride not Bridge!

MavisMcMinty · 02/08/2023 14:22

I’ve noticed they often reduce old kits just before they launch a new one. I always thought the “Bridge”(!) kit was overpriced, and bought the Bridal Party one for £45 instead.

Reinventinganna · 02/08/2023 16:56

@listsandbudgets have you looked on vinted?

MotherofTerriers · 02/08/2023 17:04

I agree the bride kit was overpriced, might be worth it at £75

@listsandbudgets I love The Seated Queen.
I bought extra tubes of Seated Queen on Ebay a few months ago, there were loads of listings after the April Beauty Drop, and really cheap x
