Six weeks to total revamp?

i am the frumpy mum in the school playground.

Fat. Pasty. Frumpy clothes. Older than average (had children late). Crunchy hair. Shy. You know the one.

Now the school holidays are starting I’m wondering if I could go back in the autumn completely transformed. And finally fit in.

Any ideas for my Sandy from Grease transformation?

Morning all just found this thread and could have written it myself - except I’m I’m a Uni mom 🤣

@CharlieHadAPigeon how you doing? Great work and inspiration!

my list includes

  • Actually going to the expensive weights gym I’m paying for - have 4-5 stoney to shift
  • stop thinking buying size 20 is my new normal - I will be a size 14 again by the new year
  • bike riding - maybe even to the gym eventually!
  • dental implant appointment made to fix gap in my bottom teeth which makes eating harder
  • hair appt made for first time ever re tape extensions - scalp is thinning so much and hair falling out - I’m almost 50
  • need to look at teeth whitening but implants first
  • Walk- water - sleep and repeat
not rocket science but feels so much to do!!

Maybe it just makes sense to have the trays done at the dentist so that they fit accurately. I know there are ads on fb etc for home whitening, but not sure how easy it would be to get the treats to fit properly.

Loopylooni · 13/08/2023 10:39

@sleepwouldbenice my friend is a dentist and charged me cost price. Essentially I just order the gel as and when I feel like i need a revamp. I'm paying for convenience and my teeth do look really good. She and all her friends use the trays.

Bunny2021 · 13/08/2023 11:46

@sleepwouldbenice the UK has really strict rules about the percentage of whitening/bleach in home kits - so crest whitening strips in the UK won’t do much (the US is more lax on rules so there’s are stronger). To get effective whitening you need to go professional.

Steppingintome · 13/08/2023 11:55

I pay for the trays from my dentist and they are good. My teeth are quite sensitive so I do them for a couple of nights a month and this seems to keep them really white and the gel lasts longer. The trays are custom made for your mouth so fit perfectly on your teeth.

I’ve been on holiday for a week so I’ve undone the work of conditioning my hair. It’s like straw again! I’m sitting here with conditioner slathered on now.

I think the Boots home teeth whitening kit is making a difference surprisingly. It says to use it 7 days in a row. I haven’t done that, I’ve used it 3 times a week apart but still look whiter.

Yesterday I had a wardrobe reorganisation so everything that doesn’t fit right now is boxed away. It will make getting ready in the mornings quicker. I also binned a few things that were looking shabby.

My microblading has vanished! The woman who did them warned me this would happen and they’d come back in a couple of weeks. I hope they do.

LadyBird1973 · 13/08/2023 13:44

@CharlieHadAPigeon what do you mean by your microblading has disappeared? I've found someone to do mine but not had an appointment yet. Don't want to spend £275 if it doesn't last.

The brown has vanished. The woman who did it said this is the ‘ghost stage’ and to expect it. (But equally, my brain is wondering where the dye has gone, and how it can resurface, and whether that’s particularly good for me to have dye wandering off under my skin). I will report back in a couple of weeks as to whether or not it comes back.

LadyBird1973 · 13/08/2023 14:06

Thanks. I've never heard of that before, although I know that people have top up appointments about 8 weeks after the first, so I guess something must happen!

CharlieHadAPigeon · 13/08/2023 14:14

@LadyBird1973 no I hadn’t heard of it either. I’ve just had a quick google and it does seem it’s completely normal, so hopefully they will reappear.

Joining here but may start a new thread for traffic. I seem to have lost complete interest in myself and I want to get my va va voom back and set a better example to my children.

I hardly wash my hair/brush unless going somewhere nice (rarely).
Roots show after 2 weeks anyway. Hair when done is my crowning glory. I wfh so never bother now. Currently greasy haired.

I live in H&M leggings for school drop off thinking I look sporty but at 98kg, I just look large. I was happiest at around 83kg 2 years ago. Breakfast is special k, then I eat with my children at night (curry etc). Maybe 1L water a day, minimal fruit/veg.

Apple shape so above clothes don't really flatter me but I don't know what casual clothes to wear which won't look terrible. Like the idea of joggers but feel so big.

Diagnosed peri menopausal.
Taking thyroid medication and vit D
Full time working single parent with minimal childcare.
Last relationship broke down a year ago and this seemed to trigger this low feeling in myself. I just don't seem to love myself at all. I gave up on me. I'd like to date but have lost confidence in myself.

Also, two things happened which made me feel like i need to do something. A friend said quite loudly that a mutual friend was 'her prettiest friend'. Might be true but I felt rubbish. Secondly I look so tired in meetings and my colleague is always being complimented in meetings on looking so good (much younger, no kids). I just need to get back on top but how!?

LBB2020 · 20/08/2023 08:28

Morning all, I’m still plodding along here! Have stated taking a collagen/biotin supplement daily (could do with picking up some multi vitamins and iron). Have been using a body oil and foot cream daily after my morning shower (I just can’t be bothered in the evening I just want a quick rinse and into bed!). Also bought some new skin care and am enjoying using those. Have been making more effort when getting dressed and have been complimented a few times this week which is a lovely boost (but shows how drab I must usually look haha!). I’ve been eating too many snacks again this week so need to get that back under control and must drink more water!
Welcome @LadybirdHere

notacooldad · 20/08/2023 08:28

I'm following this thread but not actively particpating as I'm 32 weeks pregnant, so any semblance of glamour has waddled out the door.
It doesnt need to.
Before my due date I had my hair cut and highlighted, Eyebrows and eyeladhes done, pedicure and Manicure and leg waxed.
I remember my mum saying I was being daft ( this was 27 years ago!) but I'm so glad I did.
Nothing up with being a bit glam in the delivery room!!!

notacooldad · 20/08/2023 08:31

Trust the process. You still have your top up to do.

CharlieHadAPigeon · 31/08/2023 07:40

So how did everyone get on over the six weeks? I hope everyone’s feeling fabulous and ready for the autumn.

For my part, I have tidier nails, softer feet, less crunchy hair, and whiter teeth. I cleared out my wardrobe and look less pasty thanks to fake tan.

I didn’t achieve my aims around exercise, eyebrows (got them microbladed but the ink vanished) or weight loss.

Partial success for me. And I’ll kick the van down the road by shifting my other goals to Christmas.

OP posts:
LadyBird1973 · 31/08/2023 08:56

I'm doing okay too. Keeping up with diet, nails are polished, had a nice haircut and have been buying some lovely clothes from Vinted that are practically new and that I wouldn't have been able to justify buying at full price. Am trying to move away from buying cheap supermarket clothes in black all the time!

CharlieHadAPigeon · 31/08/2023 11:19

Well done @LadyBird1973 - sounds like you’ll be looking lovely for the autumn!

Thank you @CharlieHadAPigeon

Ilmecourtsurleharicot · 31/08/2023 23:54

My one tip not already mentioned is for fine but thick hair is Faith in Nature citrus conditioner- I’ve got shiny soft hair again. Otherwise just here for everyone else’s tips- I get demotivated quickly so I like the idea of sorting a few things out in an achievable short time frame!

Ilmecourtsurleharicot · 31/08/2023 23:55

Oh and my eyebrows semi permanent make up vanished too! Not sure where to go next on that one. Was great while it lasted

CharlieHadAPigeon · 01/09/2023 08:45

@Ilmecourtsurleharicot oh no, sorry to hear that your eyebrows vanished too! I’m very much hoping that my second appointment fixes them, otherwise it’s a monumental waste of money.

OP posts:
LBB2020 · 01/09/2023 09:20

Morning, I was doing really well but the past couple of weeks not so great!
Have certainly put back on any weight I’d lost (I feel like all I have done the past couple of weeks is eat rubbish!), have got out of the habit of using my body lotion daily and haven’t been to the gym/exercise class this week at all. I have got an appointment to get my eyebrows tinted and waxed today and hair appointment tomorrow so that’s something!
I’m going to try to use September as a reset for my diet and exercise as the new school year feels like a fresh start!
So strange about your eyebrows @CharlieHadAPigeon hope the next appointment sorts them out!

Loopylooni · 02/09/2023 06:56

Hello all,

Feeling better here for brushing my hair fully and also being better with clothes and tucking things in (i usually wore items loose).

I bought a casual light shirt to bring my look together rather than bulkier coats.
Drinking 1L but hoping to get to 2L
Haircut and colour today
Eating home cooked meals and feeling more inspired to cook/get children to help

CharlieHadAPigeon · 03/09/2023 20:08

@LBB2020 even if a couple of weeks weren’t perfect, that’s still a whole lot better than if you’d not done any of the great things you did during the summer.

I like the idea of September being the start of new habits. Great plan.

OP posts:
CharlieHadAPigeon · 03/09/2023 20:10

@Loopylooni that all sounds very stylish. I hope you’re feeling better in yourself. I like the idea of getting the children involved in the healthy cooking too.
