Six weeks to total revamp?

CharlieHadAPigeon · 07/07/2023 13:43

i am the frumpy mum in the school playground.

Fat. Pasty. Frumpy clothes. Older than average (had children late). Crunchy hair. Shy. You know the one.

Now the school holidays are starting I’m wondering if I could go back in the autumn completely transformed. And finally fit in.

Any ideas for my Sandy from Grease transformation?

How’s everyone’s revamping going?

I’ve been eating healthily and have put a wash in/wash out colour on my hair. It looks a lot healthier.

I haven’t done much exercise this week.

I'm doing okay - sticking to the low carb diet. Exercise could be better but I'm trying to be more active. Still taking vitamins. Am making an effort to wear nice clothes everyday and out make up on.

LBB2020 · 14/07/2023 15:56

Not a bad week here. Have exercised every other day and have drank more water (still room for improvement!). Diet has been ok, not snacking in the evenings but perhaps still a few too many sweet treats thrown in!
Going to go to the shops tomorrow and get some vitamins/supplements. Ordered a load of clothes in the week but they aren’t right so need to return (being strict and not keeping things that “will do”). Need to start using a body lotion daily and doing a weekly/twice weekly face mask

I posted a very similar style post a month or two ago, and the best advice I received from the group that I noticed a huge difference with was:

  • Retinol (I use medik8) followed by hydrating serum (the ordinary) and suncream in the day (kiehls)
  • Lots of water
  • Doing more for myself, I've been doing mindfulness colouring, ensuring I read more, and I've just taken up yoga.
  • Overall of my wardrobe sold all the old crap I barely wear and splashed out on a few well fitted, high-quality fabric staples.
  • I now try get up at 5:30 to get ready for the day/have five minutes peace (not essential for everyone but I have a demanding 2 year old I was running around after so was barely brushing my hair on a morning.)

I’m following you all for motivation! Teacher here, so 6 weeks holiday is a great time to get myself revamped! Absolutely exhausted right now - definitely need to work on my well-being 😬
Thanks for the motivation. I often eat lower carb and find it really suits me. My big issues are wine and stress (connected!)so finding ways to de-stress that doesn’t involve wine is key for me. I like the idea of mindfulness/time for yourself as part of the revamping process!

really need to lose weight - a stone by September would be amazing. And to the OP : I’m sure it’s not as bad as you think! I’m also a mum, with a big range of kids so I’ve been both the younger mum and the older mum. It is a funny experience to be at the same point in life but not the same age - I’m always really aware of it too, so get where you’re coming from!

CharlieHadAPigeon · 18/07/2023 15:41

I think I should be glowing by now. I’ve had two weeks of eating healthily. Lots of veg, fruit, fresh fish and meat. Nothing ready made. Every time I walk past a mirror I expect to see myself glowing with good health.

Obviously this is not a realistic expectation. I look the same. I also think, based on this two week streak of healthy living, I should be slim. It’s also a surprise to walk past mirrors and realise I am not. I look the same.

i hope that by September I will be a bit glowy and a bit slim.

I know the feeling @CharlieHadAPigeon!
My children break up from school on Friday so fingers crossed by the time they go back in September I will be transformed!

LadyBird1973 · 18/07/2023 19:11

@CharlieHadAPigeon Grin
This is very familiar to me - it's a huge injustice that I'm still fat Wink

Rizo had more fun than Sandy.

:)

CharlieHadAPigeon · 18/07/2023 19:43

I know, right, @LadyBird1973 - if we are eating like a goddess, we should immediately look goddess-like on the outside. 😂

@LBB2020 I think six weeks must surely by enough time to make a visible difference.

OP posts:
LBB2020 · 18/07/2023 23:44

@CharlieHadAPigeon fingers crossed!

CharlieHadAPigeon · 21/07/2023 18:33

The countdown is on!

School has finished and it’s time to revamp. I’ve already been eating healthily for the past two weeks so I’ll have had eight weeks of kale/spinach/other green stuff to make a difference by September.

I put conditioning hair oil on my hair for four hours today but it still feels crunchy. Is that just old age or too many years of dying my grey roots (which must be grey ends by now)?

Have you tried Elasticiser (Phillip Kingsley)?
Usually available on eBay as this always seems to appear in advent calendars/beauty boxes that get recycled .
Not everyone likes it .

You need to apply to damp hair , leave it on a couple of hours (or overnight) wrap your head in clingfilm and a towel.
It gets better results the more you use it ,

Philip Kingsley was a Trichologist so not just a hair dressing product

Yes, it’s great. It’s worked well for years until now. But my hair seems to be beyond that now. I don’t heat treat it regularly, I don’t dye more than normal, so I can only assume that age (50ish) has hit it and maybe this is what I’m dealing with for my hair going forward.

I love this thread! Exactly what I need. I’ve given up sugar, but my weakness is wine and crisps.

Im going to see if I can go the whole holiday without wine or crisps now and try and exercise every day.

Jemimapuddleduk · 21/07/2023 22:13

Op you sound lovely and I bet you aren’t frumpy at all. Quick wins for making me feel more confident are:good coat, sunglasses (so no one can see eye bags) and a nice bright lipstick. Easy and minimal effort.

Seriously79 · 21/07/2023 22:13

Are you me? I could of wrote this myself. I'm jumping onboard!

I lost loads of my hair last year after illness . My hair is greying so the texture has changed , but what I had left made the worlds scrawniest ponytail and stuck out like Ken Dodd's hair .
I hadn't used the PK for ages myself but bought a small tube from M&S and conditioned the Bejeesus out of it , twice a week till it regained strength.

Sounds like you e made a good start. Other things I'd consider:

Tretinoin for your skincare (on prescription from dermatica.do.uk), started 2 years ago I'm late 30s and you wouldn't believe the change in my skin and I get so many compliments and get told I look younger.

K18 hair repair mask- transformed my hair it's fab.

Colour analysis- I want to do this!

Sometimes when I'm in a rut I do a cheap clothes haul to just get a few more new pieces. Primark/SHEIN you can get plenty for a small amount.

If anyone wants to try prescription tretinoin from Skin+ Me, I have a code for £3.50 trial: here Smile

Ken Dodd ponytail - lol 😀I’m glad you restored your hair to its former glory.

Perhaps I need to be more consistent with the deep conditioning. At least now I don’t have the school run I can leave conditioner on for longer in the mornings (on days where there’s no Teams meetings.)

Try Slimming World if you’re serious about losing weight. Depending on how heavy you are, you should lose 4 lbs or so in the first week and then 1-2lbs per week. If you’re really overweight you will lose more.

Thanks for the tip @BMrs and @ChocAuVin - I will try it out once I’ve used up the reservatrol I’ve already got. I’m very good at buying things but not good at using them!

Nice one — also second those saying it’s an inside job, too. Definitely recommend magnesium to aid sleep (I take Fullnesium) and a good multivitamin (I use Lidl Women’s).

Sadly, I also look so much better in the face when I stay away from
sugar and alcohol. This is a miserable truth for me to bear but I’ve learned my face as well as body looks so much better when I’m eating more cleanly.
