i am the frumpy mum in the school playground.

Fat. Pasty. Frumpy clothes. Older than average (had children late). Crunchy hair. Shy. You know the one.

Now the school holidays are starting I’m wondering if I could go back in the autumn completely transformed. And finally fit in.

Any ideas for my Sandy from Grease transformation?

My update.
Since I've posted I've had my 6 week review for my microblading and they look wonderful. I chose carefully as a few people I know have had theirs done and its in a startled arch. Mine look great. The sparse buts have been filled in and and the shape follows my natural shape. I've also had my upper lids eye lined. I've got to go back for my 6 week review but I absolutely love it. I've always liked eyeliner but I've never applied it well or I forget I've put on and then gone swimming so have panda eyes. This is fantastic. Again I researched well.
My teeth whitening is done and looks great.
My hair has been lightened and cut.
I still need to work on my weight.

LadyBird1973 · 06/08/2023 19:37

Well done, that's fantastic

KellyMarieTunstall2 · 07/08/2023 13:16

@notacooldad excellent! I'd love to see a photo of just your eye and eyebrow if you're comfortable sharing? I'm considering microblading and the eyeliner sounds amazing.

I will do but I'll do it after my follow up for the eyeliner us done. It's still work in progress!

You’ve all been busy! I’ve been I’ll (typical teacher - every holiday!!)think it was Covid but didn’t seem to show up in the lateral flow. Really similar to all the other times I’ve had it though (5!!)

I’ve got no eyebrows, so this eyebrow chat is making me envious! I have eczema or something and they don’t grow much.

I’ve cut my hair shorter and been using a colour enhancer which seems to have made it more shiny. I’m interested in the poster who mentioned Keto? That’s a great weight loss - how did it go for you? I’d like to lose weight. I don’t look awful but I am officially in the obese category (I’m short and quite curvy) I’m trying to give up alcohol because it definitely impacts my weight. I’m quite ‘good’ food wise - until I drink wine and then I eat everything in sight!!

Clothes wise, I’ve bought myself a new bra from Curvy Kate. It is making a difference! And I have lost 3 pounds so fit better in my clothes but not really noticeable to untrained eyes..

Sorry to hear you're ill, hope you feel better soon.

What colour enhancer are you using on your hair?

Check BIWI’s bootcamp threads. Here’s some info on low carb. She also has recipes on some of her threads. Been doing it for years. https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/low_carb_bootcamp/4830610-summer-2023-boot-camp-week-1-here-we-go

I found it too different to keep up due to my poor health. But it’s a great resource.

As for the eczema, it can be many things including diet related. I have been developing eczema on my eyelids, spreading under my eyes and onto my feet. I have modified my diet in the past with no side effects. I think it’s caused by the collagen tablets so have stopped taking. Lots of cream and several days later and it’s improving significantly.

I haven't posted for a while, I've not been sticking to 16:8 and started putting a bit of weight back on, so need to get to grips with that. However, I've had my teeth whitened, nearly finished and I feel much more confident because of that. I still need another bridge for a gap that is towards the back but still visible from the side when I laugh or talk. I'm also having my hair trimmed every 8 weeks, it's long and curly, so doesn't need much doingto it other than a trim. I've also had my finger nails done with gel in a really bright colour which I love and had my toe nails painted with varnish, so I feel a bit more finished, although quite poor 😂

Bunny2021 · 09/08/2023 13:52

I'm following this thread but not actively particpating as I'm 32 weeks pregnant, so any semblance of glamour has waddled out the door.

@Llamallamadingdong Is it the No 3 you're using? Olaplex is good but you've got to use it regularly for it to make a difference. No. 3 isn't a hair mask but a bond repairer so it won't make your hair super soft and shiny overnight but with regular use will make the strands stronger.

Also - I hate to break it to anyone using UK purchased whitening strips - they won't do much. The UK has really strict rules about the amounts of activator used in them, so they're not particularly effective. The Crest whitening strips you can buy in the US are much stronger (lot more relaxed about it). Otherwise, you're much better off going to a dentist to get them professionally done.

devoncreamtea · 09/08/2023 14:26

@justlass its a shampoo by John Frida - bit of an impulse grab but actually seems to do something! I’ve got non descript dark blonde/light brown hair and it seems to have bought out the different colours in it.
Love the sound of the nails!

@Mummyoflittledragon ah yes! I’ve been on boot camp before - forgot all about it (as gave up pretty quickly… could t keep up with chat!)

Do you use a particular cream for your excema? I tend to use Weleda products on my skin as they’re super gentle, but I’ve had steroid cream prescribed occasionally- it worked but you can’t use it long term.
Do you get watery eyes? I have found that that really annoys my eyelids/eye surroundings.

Mummyoflittledragon · 09/08/2023 16:27

@devoncreamtea
I’ve never had eczema around my eyes before. I have used cortisone the odd time but didn’t want to use around my eyes. The chemist only had a massive bottle of diprobase, which tbh isn’t that great. I wanted a smaller one and DB was OOS so tried I cetraben. Am finding it much better and it’s not making my eyes water as much.

Eliminating the collagen tablets and applying the cream multiple times daily has helped it to settle pretty fast. But I don’t really suffer much from eczema so I’m not under the illusion this will work for everyone.

It seems to be working on my feet as well. I was keeping the patches on my feet soft and not too itchy with calamine cream but not really getting rid of them. As for creams, I use ESPA overnight hydration on my face day and night, which I find gives my skin the level of moisture needed and unperfumed products. Espa looks expensive but there’s often a % off and a little goes a long way.

sleepwouldbenice · 09/08/2023 18:18

Following too. Have a little time of work trying to make the most of it. Started running and dieting, lots dog walks, water etc

Given the comment about teeth whitening products which have people found useful please

chimichangaz · 09/08/2023 18:38

I was wondering that too about teeth whitening- what did you use @justlass ?

I went to my dentist and paid for custom trays and syringes of whitening stuff, not cheap, but I'm really glad I did it.

Magien · 09/08/2023 19:32

Double base flare relief is amazing when my eczema kicks off and I'm happy using it around my face and eyes. I've managed to lose a bit of weight, my clothes are definitely fitting more comfortably.

chimichangaz · 09/08/2023 20:09

@justlass sorry for all the questions!! Do you know the make? And did you do your treatment at home?

I've been looking into this and read that Phillips Zoom was quite good but would be great to hear your views.

Ask away, it's not a problem. It is Philips Zoom Nite 16% take home treatment. I'm very impressed by it. My teeth were very stained due to coffee, tea, years of smoking (not anymore), and just age I guess. I'm very happy with them now and will probably only do one or two more sessions. I put them in at bedtime and keep them in all night.

chimichangaz · 09/08/2023 22:25

Thank you 😊

sleepwouldbenice · 09/08/2023 23:01

Thank you. Another one for the list!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 12/08/2023 01:29

Hello again:
I've ordered an exfoliant (SKINN) to try out . I really liked the M&S Radiance Peel which they stopped making anf I've tried to find a replacement but nothing so far .

Ordered some nice shampoo and shower gel for when we go on holiday .

I need to step up with the wax/epilate , though one advantage of being decrepit is hair growth is finer . Great for armpits . Less great on head .

Mercedesbenz2022 · 12/08/2023 18:51

I’ve just bought the pixi serum ( for skin volume ) so fingers crossed it does what it said in the tin !

Menopausehaver · 12/08/2023 19:16

Get a decent haircut that you can keep up to. Wear a bra, clean shoes and clothes.

Rayna37 · 12/08/2023 19:48

Enjoyed reading through this. Just on my way home from a holiday so have that back to school/new year/fresh start vibe. I have a big trip/event involving a lot of Lycra in 4 weeks to hopefully keep me focused on low carb. Skincare quite good, hair needs attention but will sort that shortly. Wondering about next level things inspired by this- teeth whitening, eyebrows maybe? Definitely itching for what I call "quality bathroom time" after 3 weeks roughing it.

Sunday will involve exercise, (healthy) food shop, and some of that bathroom time plus a fuck ton of laundry

Loopylooni · 13/08/2023 09:23

I'd definitely recommend getting the teeth whitening trays done professionally. It saves a lot in the long run.

Buy the 2L water bottles and make sure you finish them

Brush hair/lip stick and perfume on school run.

Overhaul wardrobe and get rid of anything which doesn't suit, be ruthless

Get face threaded regularly, regular cuts and colours. I'm slack on this due to finances but it does make a difference.

Hi
Have started to look at buying teeth trays to do at home. Can you please explain why better and cheaper to be done professionally?
Cheers
