i am the frumpy mum in the school playground.

Fat. Pasty. Frumpy clothes. Older than average (had children late). Crunchy hair. Shy. You know the one.

Now the school holidays are starting I’m wondering if I could go back in the autumn completely transformed. And finally fit in.

Any ideas for my Sandy from Grease transformation?

eatdrinkandbemerry · 23/07/2023 15:17

I'm definitely the oldest on the playground 🤷‍♀️ but I find a good haircut and a bit of makeup makes up for my wrinkles 🤣
I wear casual clothes and feel pretty comfortable which then makes me more confident.

Arewehumanorarewecupboards · 23/07/2023 15:51

Thank you @AbsoIutelyLovely , I’ll avoid!

devoncreamtea · 23/07/2023 16:01

Re Keto as a veggie - have a look at Diet Doctor, they’ve got a whole section. I reckon Keto veggie would be doable, not vegan though 😬
I’ve done Keto before and it is really good - but I’m such a stress eater/drinker that I found it really hard emotionally. I would end up eating shed loads of peanuts and cheese 😬😳

RichTeaCheddars · 23/07/2023 16:20

Ooh, I love this idea l for a 6 week re vamp.
I've got 3 summer dresses that I always look and feel good wearing. I'm working on improving my diet and increasing exercise.

@notacooldad which tooth whitening did you use please?

Any recommendations for fake tan, blusher, powder foundation, tinted moisturiser that are suitable for a cool toned pale pale pale person. Think Casper.

I like L'Oréal infalable powder as it has good staying power and if I use a brush not the pad it comes with its really buildable. BUT it seems to changed a bit and even the lightest one is too orange and dark for me now.

LadyBird1973 · 23/07/2023 16:32

@Arewehumanorarewecupboards there's a book by Rose Elliot on doing low carb as a vegetarian. I don't think low carb is exactly the same as keto but it might point you in the right direction

If you want to make physical changes, you need to lift some heavy weights. Nothing against yoga etc but you won't get much in the way of outward physical change from it in 6 weeks. Think more like lifting/crossfit. You can make big differences in 6 weeks.

So much is about confidence/mindset - Read fierce self compassion by kirstin neff.

but physical stuff:

Get some vitamins
Magnesium for sleep
Fish oils
B vits
D3
General multivit

Diet- lots of water. Fresh veg and fruit, up your protein- protein yoghurt is an easy way, and a clear whey protein is like squash!

Teeth- if you're bothered by them, Teeth whitening strips are really good!

Bleach London do an amazing intensive conditioner.

Do you used facial acids? Nip and fab are decent and not too e oendive. Often codes and deals about

Get a loofah for the shower and use a moisturising shower gel - sanctuary shower mousseis amazing!!

If you have dry skin on feet and heels, don't bother with a pedi. Go straight to a podiatrist! Get the skin sorted abd paint your own toenails. Much more cost effective! If you can't stretch to a podiatrist, get footner.

I like Dove Mouse gradual tan if you want a tan - apply it with a glove/mit. It doesn't smell and is foolproof!!

Face - takes less than 2 mins for me
-Origins vit c Tinted moisturiser

  • nars concealer under eye
  • Eyelash curlers
  • Clinique long lasting mascara (don't bother if lashes lvl)
  • bobby brown cream blush

Clothes - who do you admire? What style do you like? What do you feel comfortable in?

@MrsMaudwatts - can you please link to the Clinique long lasting mascara. I’ve just had a quick look on their website and can’t find one that matches this. (I’m always on the hunt for new holy grail mascaras!)

CarbsAreNotMyFriend · 23/07/2023 17:31

Well done you! Totally invested in this thread 🥳 Would a keratin blowdry be an option? They aren't cheap but good results if your hair is frizz-prone

Arewehumanorarewecupboards · 23/07/2023 17:55

@devoncreamtea @LadyBird1973 thanks, I’ll look.

Bey · 23/07/2023 23:38

Can I join too please? I've not got the school run, but recently had a baby and feel urgh about myself. I'm nearly 40 feeling frumpy hairs greying and just not how I'd like to look.

Im a fan of an LVL lash lift, if you're planning on having it done in September I'd recommend using a lash serum everyday until you have it done it'll make it even more impressive. I use RevitaLash it's expensive but it's the only one that works for me and doesn't irritate my eyes.

Things I'm going to try and do going forward are:
-drink more water,
-10 minute strength workout daily ,
-where spf daily, any good recommendations for a daily spf that doesn't irritate eyes, isn't sticky, doesn't have a white cast and isn't too expensive?
-meditate (stress is aging me!)
-get a decent eyebrow product

not sure what else but I'm sure I will pick up some tips from this thread along the way :)

I've just started using Nivea luminous anti dark spot which has spf 50. It's not at all chalky, disappears into my skin. It was recommended to me by a friend, I've been using it for a week now, my slightly sensitive skin hasn't reacted to it.

notacooldad · 23/07/2023 23:43

@RichTeaCheddars
@notacooldadwhich tooth whitening did you use please?
I went through my dentist and had the kit that I use for an hour, I think it was, a day.
My teeth are a couple of shades brighter. Maybe people can't tell but I can. I'm smiling more openly now and I feel I can smile in front of a camera.
Some people I work with have had them dome pure white and they look a bit odd. They went to Turkey for them

LBB2020 · 23/07/2023 23:44

@Bey congratulations on your new baby!
Recommend The Inkey List Polyglutamic Acid Dewy Sunscreen SPF30, it’s really lovely and only around £15

I'd love to join please.
My weight is really really getting me down.

CharlieHadAPigeon · 24/07/2023 10:23

I’ve had a revampy start to the day, doing a Couch to 5k session plus painting my toenails. I also broke out the collagen powder from the back of the cupboard and had a spoonful in a drink. I’m sceptical about whether it works but it 100% won’t work sitting in the cupboard and there’s a slight chance it might if I actually ingest the stuff. I bought it because it says “glow” on the packet which is what I’m hoping to do.

@CarbsAreNotMyFriend great idea about the keratin blow dry. If my deep conditioning campaign doesn’t have results, I’ll book one of those to try.

Welcome to Team Revamp @RichTeaCheddars and @Thebirdhouse !

@MrsMaudwatts which teeth strips did you find effective? I looked on the Boots website and the reviews for the ones they stock were terrible.

@Bey I am also a fan of LVL lash perm. Makes such a difference. I can’t afford to do it as often as I like but tend to do it before holidays so I don’t need to wear mascara.

@eatdrinkandbemerry Im glad you’re styling it out on the playground. I think I might need to update my makeup. I always wear it but it might be a bit dated. I went to a few beauty counters like MAC a couple of years back, though, and what they applied looked good for half an hour but then smudged/melted around my eyes so much I looked like a panda. I’ve still never found a mascara that doesn’t smudge under my eyes within an hour. I must have super oily eyelids.

@LBB2020 enjoy your pampering on holiday!

Sounds like a great start! I have had a terrible start…😬 screaming teenagers scuppered my first morning of the holidays! They are in school and I (teacher) am off now, so had hoped for a revampy start too, but have fallen foul of the biscuits.
After a cuppa (and biscuits😳) I do feel a bit more human, so will tackle the washing and put on something nice before meeting a friend. I’m trying not to be horrible to myself about the biscuits, hearts and minds first!

devoncreamtea · 24/07/2023 11:04

Sorry - welcome TheBirdhouse - I feel like that too; great to have you onboard!

AreMyDucksinarow · 24/07/2023 14:08

My kids break up tomorrow I’m following this thread and will have a good read tonight!

I am loving the idea of a 6 week re vamp! And I’m definitely one of the older mums at school.

Well done on the c25k I did that a few years ago and although hard really made a difference I'd love to try it again but just can't find the time at the moment.

I was like you with mascaras all smudging under the eye until I found Lancôme Hypnôse Custom Wear Volumising Mascara I won't use anything else now. I can wear it all day and have no smudge under the eye it's lovely.

LBB2020 · 24/07/2023 19:17

Thank you @CharlieHadAPigeon! I can’t wait for bedtime tonight, my two “little darlings” have been intense today! A holiday when you have children really is just parenting somewhere different 😂
I’m cracking open the wine and chocolate tonight!
Well done on C25K, I did it a few years back and have tried to restart it again a few times since but give up after a few weeks

Arewehumanorarewecupboards · 24/07/2023 19:27

@CharlieHadAPigeon well done on the c25k!
I have some of that Glow stuff too but always forget about it! But you are right, it won’t do anything in the back of the cupboard!

Magien · 24/07/2023 23:50

This is such a good idea. I'll throw checking your bra size into the ring, I've been following the Irish bra lady on Instagram and uses an online calculator which took my measurements in a load of weird positions but I look so much better in my correct bra size!

Arewehumanorarewecupboards · 25/07/2023 06:06

Great idea @Magien !

unicornjewels · 25/07/2023 06:33

This is a great idea. I'm joining today. Been away for the weekend, got back last night after lots of indulgence but super keen to join in. Lots of great tips already, thanks all!
