@ilovecherries , I wore my hemp mariners for the first time today too, size 10 after much prevaricating (and the 12s were definitely too big). I am 5ft 5in and didn’t even think about the length (which looks very similar to yours) but I am now wondering if I should take them up… They sit nicely on the orange arizonas (old Toast) that I wore and the dhal coloured polo with outsize collar that it probably two years old from Toast and which was unworn until now. I felt very good, top to toe in Toast including a brown leather bag from last summer).

Oh yes, that is a lovely combo. I think on my height the legs were either too long by a smidge, or too short by a smidge. They raise the ‘did they shrink in the wash’ question rather than look intentional. I think because yours is slightly longer on you, they look ‘right’ again.

Very nice combo @ToastCosILoveIt - is that the round collared tee that has reappeared in the sale? I have it and love it!

ilovecherries · 05/07/2023 14:21

Thinking about the clowns some more. Just why? Clown phobia is really quite common. And then a level down from phobia there are probably loads more like me who actively dislike them even though I can cope if I see one. But it can’t be aspirational for many. It’s like saying ‘our next theme will be spiders’. I just don’t get it.

I’ve just ordered the Hemp Mariners but I couldn’t work out sizing at all so I ordered in a 10 and 12. I’ve been thinking about them since the start of the sale but decided I didn’t really need any more trousers. However I’ve been tempted since seeing the pictures on here.

@ilovecherries 'Spiders' 😳please don’t give toast ideas 😂

ilovecherries · 05/07/2023 11:49

That’s what I’m thinking too. It’s minimal but I just need a fraction more ankle. I’ll wash them a couple of times to get the worst of the dye out and see if they shrink at all (which to be fair, they usually don’t, I do like that Toast fabric is pre-shrunk) and then get them take up.

Would be grateful to know the result of the washing. Mine are a fraction big and long.

Countmeout · 05/07/2023 14:42

I don’t think they actually mention clowns. It’s Everyday Theatre. The problem is those stripes and the frilled necks possibly remind people of clowns although stripes are probably meant to echo the tent.I still do think they are in danger of being blinded by their own theme and not considering what people want/ are willing to wear. Average Jo does not want to dress to a theme I assume.

Dee1224 · 05/07/2023 14:48

I frequently have a quick juggle whilst on my unicycle, so the clothes in the look book are really speaking to me🤣

Seriously - I love some of the colours, but tent stripes and frilly colours are a no-no chez Dee!

Dee1224 · 05/07/2023 14:48

Collars!!! Autocorrect strikes again!)

dudsville · 05/07/2023 14:49

Cute outfit @ilovecherries !

Oh apologies I saw the clown face and misinterpreted!
Still not keen!

ToastCosILoveIt · 05/07/2023 15:29

@Dee1224 , no, it is a tee shirt material bit with three cream buttons and an oversized collar which flairs out like two big triangles. They did it in navy too (and khaki I think). It is a super comfy top and was called the collared cotton linen tee (the label was still on until I put it on)in cumin (but I think of it as dhal).

Appreciating the hemp mariner love. I was seriously tempted by the matching jacket this am as they had it back in my size but resisted.

BettinaInDenmark · 05/07/2023 15:31

I got one of the clown-collared shirts in my first take on the present sale. I was unsure if I would like it, but loved the colours. And I fell in love when trying it on. Before that, I would have sworn that a clown collar would ever enter my wardrobe...

Think I've got a serious Toast sale problem.
On Toast sale page at 5.30am this morning, pre flight for work, grabbing a skirt.
All the time I'm in flight I'm thinking please don't reduce anything until I've cleared the airport and got WiFi.
Completely unprepared for meeting.
I'll be glad when this flipping sale has ended. 😝

dudsville · 05/07/2023 15:33

There are a few of us with the awkward problem here @Architektin !

BettinaInDenmark · 05/07/2023 15:33

Should probably have written "never"...

Architektin · 05/07/2023 15:33

@BettinaInDenmark I nabbed that in sale too. Oh its so beautifully soft and pretty.

Architektin · 05/07/2023 15:35

@dudsville thank goodness, I felt sure I was safe here confessing 😅

Dee1224 · 05/07/2023 15:54

Ah, yes@ToastCosILoveIt - i think I saw one in cream in the SM shop - regretted leaving it behind. Looks lovely with the trousers!

ScottishMouse · 05/07/2023 16:02

@dudsville that was me that mentioned the fairisle yoke sweater. Glad you like it. It is one of my favourite ever Toast buys, I have no idea how it didn’t sell out.

in other news, I am in Dublin for a few days and visited Scout this morning (you may remember them as a Toast stockist that sometimes has new items before they are on the Toast website). Lovely shop with lovely things, I have shopped here for years (am often in Dublin). I was hoping to see some Toast items that are yet to appear online, but they only had a few sale bits and bobs. I didn’t buy anything, but wanted to give them a recommendation if anyone travels here.

dudsville · 05/07/2023 16:11

Aha, @ScottishMouse ! Yes, i must say it looks so much better irl, i mean the blue yolk is accurately captured but the body isn't. Thank you!

QueenJaineApproximately · 05/07/2023 16:54

Thanks for the heads up on Scout @ScottishMouse , I'll definitely check it out whenever I get back to Dublin

Architektin · 05/07/2023 16:59

@ScottishMouse That's interesting Re Scout, I'm near Arnhem, Netherlands for work and there's a shop called Jones Arnhem that I visit when I'm here, they too have Toast before it's online, must be a 'thing' offered to retailers.

ScottishMouse · 05/07/2023 17:05

What is Arnhem like @Architektin ? Had a chance to go there earlier this year but it had to be postponed, not sure when it might happen now.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 05/07/2023 17:20

That’s interesting @BettinaInDenmark I’ve just tried this check shirt and although the colours and material were lovely I just couldn’t get the frill to lay flat. I tried various ways of ironing it but it always popped up somewhere.
I sent it back today.

The shirt you bought is really lovely too, but I think I’m just not a 'clown' collar person.

Well, I’ve run them through two consecutive 20C washes (probably should have done three as the colour catcher still very blue). Anyway, after an iron I would say if anything they’ve relaxed slightly. Certainly not shrunk.
