Hello again! Thread 33 or something!

I succumbed also very early this morning. The seersucker shirt was finally back in an XL, and things developed from there...
Amongst the other things that found their way into my shopping bag was the pond dress in size L. I got an XL delivered yesterday, and it was absolutely humongous.
I am having a really hard time at the moment regarding the Toast sizes. I used to take everything in the largest size, hoping that I could squeeze into it either right away or sometime later. I loved the enormousness of many of the dresses. Then I lost around 10 kg this spring, and that combined with the weird new Toast sizing has made things a bit difficult. I think I am starting to getting an idea about which sizes I need now, but I also plan to loose another 10 kg, so the size-drama will continue 😉

AFingerofFudge · 13/07/2023 09:15

@Beenalongwinter I have just ordered it, so I have no idea yet but I can come back and let you know when it arrives.

Bit of a nosey question- how do people buy/return financially? I usually use PayPal pay in 3, figuring I'll probably return at least 2 thirds of my order (and often not managing)! I'm looking at all the money I owe on PayPal and realising I need to sell some of my old Toast purchases! I do have some things I've bought that I've not even worn, so watch this space!!!

dudsville · 13/07/2023 09:18

Barrel leg ecru dungarees are on their way to me. I'm not an ecru person re trousers, so ordering this makes no sense. We need to draw up a assumption list re sale illness.

Snowyowl78 · 13/07/2023 09:34

@AFingerofFudge i just buy on a credit card so that returns don’t normally end up hitting an actual cash payment. Usually I spend the whole sales period thinking oh I haven’t bought that much as loads of refunds will be hitting soon, and then they hit and I think oh dear I did actually spend fortune!

@dudsville, which shorts? I have the linen ones and they’re great.

@AFingerofFudge , I sometimes use PayPal credit ie you pay absolutely nothing for three months and then have to pay in full or interest starts accruing. It is a great way of trying things and then, if you return them, nothing comes out of your bank account. I also sometime put on my cc as a fast return means agin, no change from my bank account.

Countmeout · 13/07/2023 09:43

Returns have been really quick for me. Posted items on Monday separately and all back in my account by the middle of the night so I just had to try the poppies dress someone mentioned. Colours look good for me and I need a dress (like a sore head). But it’s so well priced.

Noeggsontoast · 13/07/2023 10:00

Just remembered I didn't share the print I received with my order as I bought the navy linen balloon trousers along with the disastrous shorts. I have just the spot for it.

I just buy on my credit card, and that's true of all monthly expenditures- I never use my debit card.

the slate pinafore is up again- no 10 though, sob.

I keep hoping for a 6 or 8. Sigh.

dudsville · 13/07/2023 12:49

There's a typo in my last post, I was trying to be funny, saying that we need to draw up a list of symptoms for the Illness that effects our thinking and purchasing habits re the sale. Still might not be funny, but my typo "assumption" is irksome.

@AFingerofFudge Finansially I took out a 0% interest card specifically for toast sales - I pay it off at the end of each sale. Mine was for 2 years.

@Snowyowl78, damn it, yes it is the linen shorts!

In other news, today I recieved the white linen boy tee I remember someone on here saying they love. It's a very nice tee but the white is so see through it's going back. I also recieved the clown collar Brushed Check Cotton Dress | Rich Olive. I woudl say the image on line doesn't do this dress justice re the colour, which is very easy on the eye if you like the muted woody greens, browns and a kind of minimal duck egg blue colouring. Also the brushed check description implies that it's for cooler weather but this is a vrey thin cotton, easily a summer dress. The silly collar would be easy to remove. This "easy" fit is more streamlined than other toast dresses. I still bought a size down from my high street size, but it is (gasp) slimming. So although I had planned to return I think this is actually a keeper. The sleeves rolled up to just below the elbow go with it's very casual look overall... so this is another item where I thought "absolutely not, looks ridiculous online", to putting it on and thinking it works well on me. The colouring isn't mine but I do own things outside of my colouring just because I like them and I'm ok with that.

MaroonedOnADesertIsland · 13/07/2023 12:49

Hello, I haven't posted for a while but I have been in a familiar sounding cycle of 'one last purchase' and returns 😂I am not looking any more (famous last words).

About how to fund - I usually use my credit card so as not to take a hit with all the returns, but like PP I do find it adds up quickly.

@dudsville I tried the dungarees - really nice but couldn't make them work for me, not sure why.

My wild card item so far is the ecru fisherman's pants - threw them in on a whim but really like them. Annoying they are still £140 😬

@Stoic123 that draped linen mix dress is one of my favourites. Can be worn most seasons as it looks good layered up too. £65 is a good price.

Stoic123 · 13/07/2023 12:49

Penultimate (please) order arrived and both going back.

  • Check Twill Olive Dress - knew shape from Plum Check but don't like material as much/colour doesn't particularly suit me.
  • Loopback Collared Sweatshirt in Denim - knew material and colour would be good but shape doesn't suit me (too short/boxy).
At least I'm getting a sense of what works for me even if I'm a bit trigger happy with the buying.
Stoic123 · 13/07/2023 12:50

@MaroonedOnADesertIsland - fingers crossed for the 'last' order 😀

MaroonedOnADesertIsland · 13/07/2023 12:52

Re the new season stuff, I really like the Fayre dress Reviews say it is tight in the bodice but didn't look it on the Toast live.

Also like this take on the Maya

I like the new season dungarees too.

Will have to wait for the next sale though as all spent out!

I agree @Stoic123 , although it can feel hectic with all the returns so long as we only keep things that tick the boxes what does it matter, and it's clearly a way of shopping toast is happy with.

I'm just posting a pic of the dress colouring in case antibes interested, it's another good deal at £50 (so long as you either like the collar or are happy to remove it!). It very much reminds me of the 70s.

@dudsville I got the shirt in this fabric in the winter, and I really loved wearing it! Fits really well with all my olive green clothes and accessories

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 13/07/2023 13:28

I use 2 credit cards, that I always pay off in full, with payment dates 2 weeks apart so theoretically I should never have to pay for things I have returned. Unfortunately this sale I started off using them the wrong way round so to avoid fees I have had to pay off quite big sums of money that I’ve now had refunded.
Happily that means these cards are now in credit so I can justify all my continuing sale purchases Smile .

dudsville · 13/07/2023 13:33

I like that fayre dress to @MaroonedOnADesertIsland !

dudsville · 13/07/2023 13:34

It's such soft material, isn't it @BettinaInDenmark ! And I think even my own pic still doesn't accurately capture this - how odd!

faustina · 13/07/2023 13:34

That photo is nothing like the picture on the Toast website where it looks so green!

Greater Anglia didn't want me to go to a Toast shop today (or the dentist for that matter) so perhaps I will have to wait for a while to try on the Fracap mules. To make up for it, I was able to be here for the first (of three) final sale deliveries. The boatneck tee in medium is beautiful!! I tried it last year in an XS or even S and it was very fitted so it went straight back. I think some of you have said it's too short, but being a shortarse it's fine for me

I am re-trying the cotton linen tie neck. Still undecided about it. If I can put it on and not have an image in my head of Margaret Thatcher in one of her pussybow blouses, I might be able to make it work

Waiting for the blue shirt and the black coffee one which arrive tomorrow

About paying - I use my credit card and pay it off each month, but it does get complicated working out what's going to be refunded. I do wonder if the company that owns Toast will raise an eyebrow at their costs for returns - they must be considerable! (totally their own fault)

Countmeout · 13/07/2023 14:31

That looks nothing like the colour @dudsville . I had the blouse but the neck didn’t work for me so returned. Agree the fabric is lovely and soft.

I so want the bike panniers too @Brillenbar47 despite my lack of a bike, can anyone think of another use for them 😳

dudsville · 13/07/2023 14:34

I sometimes wonder if they haven't dug their heels in re this sizing problem with regard to their actual customers versus perhaps their ideal customers, if that make any sense? It's as if they want to have x group of customers who would be happy with their rogue, totally unique approach sizing, but darn it all they have us and most of the rest of their actual customers who like to be able to anticiate how a thing might fit them based on the size they buy in literally all the other clothes shops.

dudsville · 13/07/2023 14:44

Re the fabric IRL life not matching the pics on line, I have the same recently with the red check trousers. I saw toast reply to one reviewer, saying that they use flash and this impacts on the way a colour is portrayed. I've only really known ths to be a problem with toast things so surely other shops have found a workaround?

Also, since I'm on a roll, they should let us upload pics. Very Very rarely an item looks better or is well styled by them on their own models. 9/10 we put things togther in better ways and the items fit/flater us more. I think toast clothing suits Gift, but really not Mollee and Alex. Tried to look for a few more names for models who I think wear toast well but often when other models are wearing an item as well these three are the ones that get the name check and I couldn't be bothered to go through all the pics!

Saurus72 · 13/07/2023 14:46

My final (?) order arrived and both things are going straight back. The denim skirt was just too voluminous and unflattering. Gratifyingly, the denim wrap skirt I bought 2 years ago looks way better.

The fair isle jumper was no good either sadly. The colours were terrible on me, too big and unflattering.

I’m quite happy these are both going back from a financial perspective. I also use a credit card for my Toast shopping and pay it off each month. I only use this card for shopping so it’s pretty easy to keep track. I also keep a note on my iPhone of everything I’ve bought in the month so I always know what I’ve spent.
