Hello again! Thread 33 or something!

I prefer the archive sales as there’s always something I missed or regretted not buying.

happysoju · 12/07/2023 11:09

@dudsville @ScottishMouse That's so true. So many things I thought I would love I ended up returning, only to be blown away by a purchase made on a whim.
I have no doubts that this is one of the reasons Toast sales are so seductive, given the unpredictability of their sizing and fit! When we find the one item we absolutely love, we get excited and go back for more. In psychology they call it 'variable rewards'.
Basically this is no different than going to the slots 😂

BettinaInDenmark · 12/07/2023 11:21

Trying to wear the sale items so that they not just ends up in the closet, me forgetting about them.

Today it is the black coffee linen trousers and shirt; in the light at work they look like two very different shades. Maybe the shirt was used and washed before returned to Toast? Ah well, also wearing my flouro orange sketchers today makes the world seem brighter 😎

Today I’m sitting in a beach cafe in Puerto Pollensa (had to get that in!) wearing navy linen shorts for this sale and this top from many years ago - again well altered and reduced by a couple of sizes. Sadly I’m wearing my husbands trainers (he is only half a size bigger than me, so the look is slightly spoiled). My poor feet are so swollen after the flight though.

And yes, I do have the dress in the same fabric. I’ve got the line and green check in both the dress and the top as well. Sometimes I love the fabric do much, I’m helpless…

@BettinaInDenmark i wore this outfit the other day to work. Felt great!

dudsville · 12/07/2023 12:37

Thoseare some fun shoes @BettinaInDenmark ! And I'm envious of your holidays @ilovecherries !

Dee1224 · 12/07/2023 12:57

I love Puerto Pollenca, @ilovecherries - have a lovely time!
@Laska2Meryls - my OH keeps wondering why most/all of our recent holidays have involved going to/past Somerset 🤣

I was awake again at 4am today and sure enough Toast had restocked. I am sure i an subconsciously waking up to check the site - it’s very sad😂

happysoju · 12/07/2023 13:01

Toast live on now!

faustina · 12/07/2023 13:04

I did have a wishlist of things but sometimes they've been a bit vague - like 'neutral trousers' - and there were other specific things I wanted to try, but not all of them turned out to be as nice on me as they looked (like the cotton linen v neck)

I'm looking forward to the slubby cotton linen shirt arriving. I absolutely loved it last autumn when it first appeared, and then I tried it in a Toast shop and hated it - BUT - it was very hot, tail end of summer, tiny tiny changing room and I had a blister on my foot, so I'm giving it one last chance in the comfort of my own house. I really dislike trying on in shops nowadays!

I have ordered way more than I've kept, but I'm glad no-one's complained. I think we all know where the fault lies for that (and it's not me!)

Dee1224 · 12/07/2023 13:35

Just watched the Toast Live. I liked the look of that ‘walnut’ dress - I will definitely aim to try that on next time I am in-store. I also found myself strangely drawn to those green socks.

Is it just me, or did Nikki sound a bit peeved that people were wanting to iron out the crinkles in the ‘crinkle collection’? (Obviously not me, as I don’t iron!)

MiracleToast · 12/07/2023 13:44

I laughed at the ironing out of the crinkles.

Dee1224 · 12/07/2023 13:51

Me too, @MiracleToast - I rewound just so I could enjoy Nikki’s gritted teeth a second time 🤣

MiracleToast · 12/07/2023 13:54

@Dee1224 i’m just sort of relieved that I don’t really fancy any of it!

Dee1224 · 12/07/2023 13:57

I know what you mean @MiracleToast I really need to stop spending money 🙃

ScottishMouse · 12/07/2023 14:00

I thought the dress looked so much better ironed! Nothing much grabbed me though.

Still dithering about the Turrell dress over here. It is comfy and cute, fits, flatters, complements, and works for my lifestyle (have noted this list for future reference!). It fills a wardrobe gap. The length of the grown on sleeves is too long for me and they look messy turned up, but I think I could take them up. I don’t totally love the slightly seventies collar, but I would probably make a mess of altering that so I wouldn’t. Gah, why am I so indecisive?!

Countmeout · 12/07/2023 14:08

Thought the dress looked better ironed. And the check being navy with the pomelo was a big plus for me.. Obviously have paid attention to what we thought possibly as it’s been discussed on here and asked about on the Kindred video.
I don’t understand how it couldn’t be crinkled again. Surely it’s just a matter of crumpling and tying in knots. Did no one ever have a skirt that you did that with? I seem to remember having one. Or is this dress done by mushroom eating fairy folk who do it so artfully it can’t be reproduced.

I do like that skirt and top Nikki was wearing and will buy that top if it’s available when it next goes into a sale.

BettinaInDenmark · 12/07/2023 14:09

@Dee1224 I also woke up at 4 - which would be your 3 am. Looked through the sales items and marveled at the thought that I could buy 3 lovely shirts that I had not seen before in the sales. All in my size.
Thought better of it, and decided to go to bed and order later. Hmm, later hey were gone. Maybe a good thing, as I unwillingly (hmm) just had to put two more orders in yesterday. My cc must be burning by now.
It is really funny about crinkled dresses. I have an old one from Boden, that I used to love. When my husband - British - saw it, he thought that it was terrible, and offered to iron it for me as he thought it was so wrinkled because I didn't want the bother of ironing. Well, I hate ironing, but this dress was ment to be that way.

Dee1224 · 12/07/2023 14:24

Yes @BettinaInDenmark - the crinkling of cotton tops and some dresses (often with a cute little matching bag to scrunch them up in), was a big thing with Boden some years ago! I still have one of the tops, (very pretty, but it no longer fits🙁).

However, I am not a fan of Toast’s new crinkled dresses as the crinkling just doesn’t do the material any favours imo.

@Countmeout - this could be complete nonsense, but the article I read as a student about not ironing said that every time something is ironed, the fibres of a fabric are altered, and in effect, the more something is ironed, the more it needs it.

If this is the case, (and certainly no one has ever noticed that I don’t iron anything), it would suggest that ironing out the crinkles would change the fabric in some way so that any attempt to recrinkle the ‘crinkle’ would just result in a wrinkle! Perhaps that’s what Nikki meant.

Countmeout · 12/07/2023 16:01

That’s interesting @Dee1224 . Although I wonder what the difference is between a crinkle and a wrinkle.

faustina · 12/07/2023 17:00

I liked the dress when it was crinkled!

@ScottishMouse - if you're having a dress dilemma, you could always pop a pic on here for some more opinions?

Watched the video: I really liked Nikki's skirt - but A line skirts don't like me sadly. The walnut dress looks nice too, also those big ecru trousers. I'll be within walking distance of a Toast shop tomorrow - not sure if I'm not a bit shopped out though.

Saurus72 · 12/07/2023 17:30

I know exactly what you mean about feeling shopped out, the sales seem to have lasted forever this time.

the live kind of made me want to try the cream jacket that the lady with silver hair was wearing - but I don’t have a single clue when/what with I’d actually wear it.

We arrived home from our holiday today and the Oar check dress was waiting for me. I love it so much - this is how I envisage wearing it to work with navy knee boots. It’s a fantastic dress, all the better for the super bargain price! No sign of the supposed new sizing, fits just like all my other Toast dresses.

My final order of the denim skirt and fair isle knit should be arriving tomorrow. Fingers crossed I don’t like both 😬. Although I looked back at last year’s shopping and I bought very little August-November. All the things I’ve bought are wfh stuff/office clothes, or yoga clothes plus a jacket I had tried and loved.

Brillenbar47 · 12/07/2023 18:10

That looks lovely @Saurus72

I just gave middle child some pocket money to take my returns to the post office. Took him 3 trips.

I refuse to be embarrassed!!

flightypiece · 12/07/2023 18:45

Hello all, I’ve been lurking for the last few threads and have enjoyed reading about all your buys, returns and wardrobe thoughts in general. Also learnt a lot about moths😱.
Could I ask if any of you has got or tried the Poppies Print Crepe Dress which is in the sale for only £48? I ordered it out of curiosity fearing it might be too bright (and DH was a bit startled by it when he passed it hanging up in dim light) and thought that at that price I could dye it to a more muted colour way, but when I put it on it was surprisingly quite flattering. I quite like viscose as it is breathable, drapes and doesn’t crease much so is good for travelling. I also hate ironing!
What I wondered, if anyone has it, is how useful it has been and whether it is too stand out irl.

Stoic123 · 12/07/2023 18:50

Panelled denim trousers from Uniform Research arrived - not hugely flattering but very comfortable. At full price a maybe, at 40% off it's a keeper.

Last order (2 items) coming tomorrow. Nothing left to stalk so time to wind down.

Today's outfit was the Plum Cotton Check dress. Enjoyed wearing it.
