@PretLea I have a RAINs coat. I have the belted Mac but definitely wear it with Toast dresses and it looks good. Not warm in the slightest though. Mine was faulty and you really reminded me I need to order the replacement.

MiracleToast · 10/07/2023 21:39

@PretLea i also have a RAINS coat—belted mac in dark green. It’s lovely but it’s slightly ripped at the arm already—had for around a year maybe with not a huge wear so that’s a bit disappointing. I probably should email to ask about it.

neveradullmoment99 · 10/07/2023 21:45

I had this complete outfit on today! Don't think I have ever done that!

Today was the turn of the Oxford Chambray 'Nurse' Dress. Really cool and flattering. Day 10.

ScottishMouse · 10/07/2023 21:53

I had my nurse dress on today too @Stoic123 ! Love that dress.

NotAMinimalist · 10/07/2023 21:55

@dudsville oh absolutely 🙌

lordloveadog · 10/07/2023 22:10

Enjoying @Stoic123 's commitment to getting through the outfits!

And everyone's updates. Now terrified of the Mothy Menace and will be ordering defence supplies.

It's hot here so today I've been in the brown gingham dress and this evening the ginkgo nightie from last year's sale. The gingham dress is especially good because it comes up high and covers upper dress where I easily get sunburnt.

dudsville · 10/07/2023 22:10

Fab@neveradullmoment99 , and I bet it looked a million times better on you! She's a great looking model but does little for toast!

PretLea · 10/07/2023 22:10

Thanks so much @TerrierOrTerror @MiracleToast really good to know it suits the aesthetic. Does seem quite classic and simple in design, which I like. But slightly concerning about quality issues you’ve experienced…

I also came across Stutterheim coats, which maybe seem quite similar. I like the A-line style of theirs.

Noodle421 · 10/07/2023 23:57

I wore the liquorice linen dress with striped alpaca jumper slung over shoulders (new season) and oiled leather Birkenstocks. I later changed into Jasmine linen blouse, Ashley jeans and oiled leather Birkenstocks . Love the jasmine shirt so much I’ve ordered it in the pink too. I love the cut/colour. So easy to wear.

It's just gorgeous isn't it.🤗
I was a bit worried I'd pissed everyone off with the moth talk but if it saves one lovely sweater it's worth it.
My current knitting project is one super thin thread of the finest alpaca combined with a thin thread of linen to make a lovely soft fabric for the summer.
It's a short sleeve summer tee with a really tricky lace yoke but I'm cracking on aided by the tennis!

I’d love to see a sample of your beautiful
sounding knitwear, but only if you feel comfortable posting a pic. Another quality I enjoy about fine alpaca is its silky feel. Must be an interesting texture when you add linen to the mix. Please don’t apologise about introducing the moth theme to the thread, I’m truly grateful you’ve nudged me into action and I’m sure others are too.

Stoic123 · 10/07/2023 18:42

I'm another fan of this. So much so that I did buy a spare one (full price) just in case and it is stored in the prepper trunk for when my current one gives up the ghost.

The Cotton Cashmere Check dress in L arrived (M is the right size for me) - ordered to see how it would look. Actually prefer it oversized and the boob gap issue goes away. It isn't super flattering in either size (colour suits though) but it is just so darn comfortable to wear. Will mull over for a couple of days.

Such a good idea buying a back up second pinafore. Wish I’d thought of that while they were still in stock. I think this is my favourite and most useful piece of Toast clothing. I love my cotton cashmere dress too. I wear it with black knee high boots in winter and a pistachio coloured fine rib vest underneath for contrast. I feel very comfortable in this dress but other dresses with a similar silhouette can look awful on me. I can never predict what is going to work.

Saurus72 · 11/07/2023 06:54

Sale has been restocked this morning!

I’ve made my last order - @AmethystMoonShine I’ve been influenced by your glowing review of the fair isle sweater, although once I placed my order the large immediately went OOS so not sure if it will be fulfilled.

I also ordered the denim skirt - I really like the look of the new season one but I thought I’d try the sale one as it’s half the price!

Brillenbar47 · 11/07/2023 07:19

I've ordered the denim skirt too @Saurus72 - was particularly influenced by one of the reviews which said the pockets are big enough to easily fit a kindle! I also snagged an Emma in carbon

Saurus72 · 11/07/2023 07:23

I’ve got high hopes for it, with knee boots and a jumper. Toast does give good denim.

Stoic123 · 11/07/2023 07:51

I've decided to try the collared sweatshirt in denim. Have been put off by the shorter arms but it's now at a price where I'd be able to overlook them if the rest worked well. Can see it slung over a pinafore.

I'm still not enamoured with the new season stuff but there is the tendency for Toast pieces to grow on me so early days.

dudsville · 11/07/2023 07:59

I know what you mean about the current season growing on you@Stoic123 ,i have the same experience.

Re the idea of buying a replacement for future you, i like this a lot but can't do it. How can you be certain the thing you love now you'll love then? Or that the item won't last 20 years? Or that a new thing won't catch your eye. I think we all know the sadness that comes with a favoured item's loss, but when it's due to it coming to the end of its usefulness as opposed to being forgotten somewhere or stolen... i don't know, I would have back ups of over half my wardrobe!

Stoic123 · 11/07/2023 08:11

@dudsville - I partly agree. I see the slate pinafore as a real basic for me because I can dress it up in different ways. Spare for basics makes sense to me. I would order spares of the perfect pair of jeans too (still elusive).

I bought 4 merino v neck jumpers (different colours) from J Crew in New York 20 years ago. I still regret not going into debt to fill my entire suitcase with them as they were the perfect weight/cut. Long worn out and never found any to compare.

Saurus72 · 11/07/2023 08:22

@Stoic123 Ah J Crew! I lived in the US 20+ years ago and while I didn’t buy a lot from there, what I did buy was absolute perfection. See also Banana Republic c. 1999.

OftenOrange · 11/07/2023 08:39

I used to keep good Margaret Howell clothes for years thinking I’ll wear them when I’m old. The reality is that I sold most of them on EBay ,mainly to USA , even classics date in the sense that lengths and fit change .
Now I’m no longer working at a paid job I’ve more enthusiasm and time to spend on clothes.
Buying new still gives a terrific boost . When I worked I hadn’t the time or inclination to ponder , I used to buy several good non sale pieces a year and had no problem picking an outfit because it all worked together .
Now I’ve a wardrobe full of attractive mismatched stuff , a lot of which I don’t wear for various reasons, but what fun it’s been on the way.
Pieces with real wardrobe longevity for me have been quality cashmere jumpers worn with jeans , designer overcoat ( Isabel Marant, V Westwood) good Trench and silk scarves.
I think I’ll wear Toast dresses based on 1940s styles for all time too , but maybe not the big baggy ones.

Have you tried NavyGrey for jumpers? It took me a while to take the plunge and purchase what amounts to a very plain crew neck jumper at considerable financial outlay but I haven’t regretted it once. A great quality staple piece which I hope will last years.

Noeggsontoast · 11/07/2023 08:45

Morning fellow Toasties, wow I have so much to catch up on, it will take me a good couple of days. The chat has moved on two more threads since I went on hols. Good to come back and see some new things added.

As a result of my hols I've purchased today the balloon linen trousers in midnight. I so enjoyed wearing the fenugreek I had to get them. I was very tempted to buy them before I went away but resisted. I've also ducked in to get the linen collared sweater in dhal. I have one in navy and khaki and they're just so easy to wear with skirts or trousers and have that smart edge. They're the perfect top.
Both of these will be keepers.

I've also been tempted by the linen shorts and have ordered in copper and midnight. I don't have high hopes for these as I find shorts very difficult to get the style cut I like, but I shall give them a whirl. I don't own any shorts.

I enjoyed reading the moth information. I can't say I have ever had an issue with them and my knitwear, but oh my the Indian meal moths in Australia infested our dry food goods and we had to lose everything and they kept coming back. How they got inside unopened packets I'll never know. I shall however invest in some moth protection just in case.

I have managed to see the autumn preview video and have looked at the new drop but nothing excites me at all, except the limey green fairisle, but then I've been waiting for one that colour for a while and knitwear is my weakness.

Enjoy the tail end of the sale everyone.

neveradullmoment99 · 11/07/2023 08:48

The main thing for me not buying anything for later years is simple! We change shape. I have currently 10's/12's/14's!!!!
Really cannot afford the space.
I do think Toast is classic but I've kept next to no pieces since I started buying in my 30's_40"s. Now 55.
My oldest Toast item are slouch flares that no longer fit me😪

dudsville · 11/07/2023 09:11

Ah, US trips of the past. I used to stock up on Eddie Bauer cords. Those things fit my bum and waist perfectly and they never aged. They're one of the few things I hang on to even though I wear a looser shape now. I also used to buy loads of G. H. Bass loafers, again I have these in my wardrobe even thought they've hardly been worn since the trend for chunkier stuff dropped several years back.

The thing I like in the current drop is the linen cotton boatneck dress that's the same shape as the landscape and I am tempted.

BettinaInDenmark · 11/07/2023 10:13

Coats for Toast dresses:
This winter I got the dark olive Collared Donegal Knit Coat, which matches perfectly with my olive Blundstone's (Toast from years ago) and the olive check dress I bought in the winter/spring sale.
I also like to wear the checked Cotton Linen Coat that I think I got in 2015 and the Cocoon Check Coat (2016?) with dresses. They were way too expensive, but I love them :)
