I like wearing jumpers over dresses in cooler weather @ScottishMouse .

@Snowyowl78 - I have a couple of pairs of ancient over the knee boots and ditto ankle boots that I wear with dresses in winter. I sometimes wear thinnish leggings as an alternative to tights with long dresses.

Dee1224 · 10/07/2023 16:37

I have a Toast jacquard blue jumper that goes very nicely over a variety of dresses. It’s currently hiding from moths, wrapped in plastic.

I was tempted to buy the linen jumper in green or navy for a summer option over dresses, but the reviews weren’t very good. Does anyone have one?

@Snowyowl78 I hate tights! Haven’t worn them in years. I am happy to go bare legged for most of the year, blundstones and Falke wool socks.
Jumpers and cardigans over dresses are great, but will only take me so far in Scotland!

dudsville · 10/07/2023 16:58

No @Dee1224 , I gave up onthe pond as I just don't like sleeveless, it's the little denim dress "Ivy" that I'm waiting for in a small.

I do cardigans socks and boots@ScottishMouse and @Snowyowl78 in autum and spring, midwinter I either do tights or a pair or very long leggings (,they go to my ankle, i think "tall" from M&S?) which is good if I also want socks, tights with socks always seems a litlle too much! My coats are al toast friendly if not toast themselves, so my olive green Northface parka for midwinter which I purposely bought over sized, is perfect.

Dee1224 · 10/07/2023 17:02

I will be interested to hear your thoughts on the Ivy @dudsville as I really like the look of it online!

neveradullmoment99 · 10/07/2023 17:23

I go bare legged. Its hard when it rains to feel motivated to wear a dress for me personally but with the weather so rainy just now, I am forcing myself. I bought a kin raincoat recently in black.

Kin Longline Packable Mac, Black at John Lewis & Partners

Its out of stock in lots of sizes but I got the size 10 [ and am a 14 atm]
It has a hood, its thin but its been warm and wet and happily wear a cardi under it. It is fairly long so looks good with dresses. I thought the black might be overwhelming but it's not.

Personally I suffer a lot from thigh rub. Essential to me is a pair of cycle shorts on something thinner.

I just wear a chunky sandal so if it rains I don't get wet feet. Either that or trainers/novestas.

neveradullmoment99 · 10/07/2023 17:25

The chunky sandals have a bit of a heel.

My last sale parcel arrived today and they're both keepers. The Fair Isle Yoke sweater with the blue near the neck is beautiful. The orange isn't as bright as it looks on the website, it's more of a rust, which suits my colouring. The main part of the jumper isn't brown as it looks on screen - I think someone else said this, it is lots of beautiful colours - a bit like a beetle, those metallic looking ones but not metallic....I sound mad I realise.

Anyway, and then the drawstring collar tunic dress in slate - I would not have paid the original price but at £95 it is great value. Very well cut and there's lots of style tweaking to be had such as rolling up sleeves, buttoned up or not, the collar can be ruched or not and it looks great with or without a belt. It also had room to layer long sleeve tops underneath for cooler weather. It's a fairly heavy weight fabric and drapes well. It's a bit longer on me than the model and I'm pleased about that too.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 10/07/2023 18:40

@AmethystMoonShine I'm a fan of the drawstring collar dress too, I think it’s a good price at £95 but I don’t know how they could justify the original price. I haven’t tried it with a belt, that’s a good tip.

Regarding dresses in winter, I like footless tights with thick socks and boots, but I do sometimes wear leggings with dresses if it’s really cold.

Stoic123 · 10/07/2023 18:42

Snowyowl78 · 10/07/2023 12:57

I got the slate pinafore dress today, not the deep v neck one but one from a few seasons ago I think, cotton and linen. I really like it but it’s massive! My hands don’t feel reach the bottom of the pockets! Does anyone have it? Tempted to keep it but I’ll need to take it up about 5 inches

I'm another fan of this. So much so that I did buy a spare one (full price) just in case and it is stored in the prepper trunk for when my current one gives up the ghost.

The Cotton Cashmere Check dress in L arrived (M is the right size for me) - ordered to see how it would look. Actually prefer it oversized and the boob gap issue goes away. It isn't super flattering in either size (colour suits though) but it is just so darn comfortable to wear. Will mull over for a couple of days.

NotAMinimalist · 10/07/2023 18:46

Hey all of you lovely Toasties! I have been a long time Toast thread stalker but not poster. I love reading what you’ve all bought. I have only been a Toast shopper for about a year and have utterly ransacked this sale 🙈 I’ve ordered and returned A LOT but feel I am in good company on these threads. I’ve also ordered (and kept) some unexpected things because of you lot, namely the brown check gingham dress, so thanks for that 😄 I’ve also jumped on the moth sticky death things, because whilst I don’t have moths (yet), I have an extensive knitwear collection that my husband would have a shit fit if he were to know the exact value 🤐 I mean, he knows I’m expensive but he’s not fully ‘in the know’.

Anyhow, I’ve signed up mainly to respond directly to @neveradullmoment99 (and I promise I’m not employed by these people) I went to Thailand earlier this year and visited a lot of temples. Rather than wear trousers I bought some decent Toast dresses for coverage in the last sale and got some Chub Rub shorts from Snag Tights. They have been a revelation. I now have 20 dresses (all Toast 🤫) and these shorts have transformed my summer because I used to hate wearing dresses. They’re disgustingly name but an utter game changer. I don’t know what they’re made of but they keep you quite cool as well.

applecatchers36 · 10/07/2023 18:47

Also like to wear dresses with cardigans or jumpers if it's cooler..agree with longer dresses and boots as a good combo..in cooler weather...

So my last sale parcel arrived this morning and am returning the ochre utility trousers which are lovely but think I am between sizes now, they are very high waisted and although I can get in to an 8 they feel quite restrictive which is a shame as great colour and fabric...

The punt I had on the green utility dress didn't work. The dress arrived very crumpled and there was a lot of fabric which drowned me also felt a bit too austere, a very handmaid like dress with high buttoned up neck. .

But good for the finances...and have scratched the itch...

I clocked your username early on and thought this could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship 😍 I find alpaca also drapes beautifully. I’m a relative newcomer to this wool and I love it. Thanks for all your tips. Very helpful. I’ll look into the IKEA bags and I have now started a freezer rotation of knits. I’m putting a new system in place.

It's just gorgeous isn't it.🤗
I was a bit worried I'd pissed everyone off with the moth talk but if it saves one lovely sweater it's worth it.
My current knitting project is one super thin thread of the finest alpaca combined with a thin thread of linen to make a lovely soft fabric for the summer.
It's a short sleeve summer tee with a really tricky lace yoke but I'm cracking on aided by the tennis!

Alpacasoft · 10/07/2023 19:20

Winter talk already 😁
Love it!
I do wear dresses but they tend to be my denim pinafore, denim shirt dress or wool skirts which fall below the knee.
Always with wool or wool/ cotton tights
The drawstring collar dress and now the drawstring denim dress will be great additions.
Both are far nicer and longer than the pictures show , perhaps it's time to show garments on two different sizes models , we just see xs .
So many other companies do.
In addition to the Drawstring denim dress, Pond arrived in small and medium, lovely dress and so pleased I went for it, its a cool mustard and the small fits perfectly with enough drape.

Thank you so much. Going to buy some snag ones! That is so helpful! Thigh rubbing is hell. Im do glad im.not alone! Thank uou do much for your post and please stick around💕

Snowyowl78 · 10/07/2023 19:58

@neveradullmoment99 @NotAMinimalist i also wear cycling shorts for the thigh rub, works well!

I think this year I’ll try to embrace the socks and boots and dresses look instead of tights.

Stravaig · 10/07/2023 20:01

My current knitting project is one super thin thread of the finest alpaca combined with a thin thread of linen to make a lovely soft fabric for the summer.

@Alpacasoft This sounds intriguing, what a clever idea! My fingers are wiggling as I imagine the feel of these two fibres stranded together :)
Are you going for lace, or an airy solid?

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 10/07/2023 20:04

@NotAMinimalist I buy the snag footless tights, I find them really comfortable.

Stoic123 · 10/07/2023 20:04

@Snowyowl78 - tights irritate me but thermal leggings don't do the same. I find the M&S Heatgens very comfortable to wear.

dudsville · 10/07/2023 20:45

I like your description @AmethystMoonShine ,i described it as a gasoline puddle!

Hi @NotAMinimalist , i also wear the snag thigh rub shorts... the freedom in summer is immense!!!

Would loooove to see and admire your knitting @Alpacasoft ???

NotAMinimalist · 10/07/2023 20:46

@neveradullmoment99 Hurrah!! I hope you like them. I had tried all sorts but these really do the trick.

@Snowyowl78 I’m a cyclist, so I think if I put bike shorts under my dress I’d feel a bit peeved to actually not be going out on my bike 😆 I did wear Blundstones and tights under my square neck crinkle dress at Christmas, I was lovely and cosy but I do like the sound of boots and socks instead although not sure I could pull it off.

@Theteapotsbrokenspout Good to know, thank you. I haven’t tried their tights yet. They recently had 20% off and I was going to buy some but couldn’t do it in the heat we’ve been having lately. Although today is a different story….

dudsville · 10/07/2023 20:57

The weird brushed check cotton dress, the slightly green one with the clown collar? It's been reduced to £50, I'm going to try it, that collar can easily be removed for £50!

I've spent the day in an old sale dress, the french blue check that i altered from the blouson sleeve to a straight shirt dress sleeve. What lovely toast have you all been gallivanting about in?

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 10/07/2023 21:09

I spent the day in overalls rubbing down paintwork, but changed to last years check linen shorts and olive circular tee to walk the dog.
