The old stuff was fab! What is there on John Lewis now? There is going to be nothing I like!

faustina · 07/07/2023 20:34

@neveradullmoment99 - have you ever tried Albaray? I'm thinking of doing so - they seem to have some nice clothes. I might try something on next time I'm in JL

Ive seen Albaray. Some of the dresses do look nice. I forgot about them. Thanks.
I don't obviously need any dresses atm!!!

Definitely dregs of the sale now.. my order today.. Brushed back grey trousers in sizes M and S and they both were M but one had a S label 🙄.. I am sending both back despite originally meaning to keep the ones I already sent back because they would have been out of the returns period...Also they are now further reduced but sadly none in S.

Alpaca tank in pear .. arrived really smelling heavily of perfume.. and is just too short and a bit shapeless

Linen apron though I will keep...

neveradullmoment99 · 07/07/2023 21:04

That's just shocking @LLaska2Meryls ! I wonder what the panelled linen dress will be like. I have that and a tee coming.

Dee1224 · 07/07/2023 21:39

@neveradullmoment99 - the panelled linen dress I tried today was in perfect condition - it just wasn’t right for me 🙃

Is it really thick? That's my only worry! Ive ordered the 14. I read it was neat on the bust? You said it was pretty big. I'm not bothered. Happy to send it back! Spent enough!

Dee1224 · 07/07/2023 22:08

Hi, @neveradullmoment99 I ordered the 12 and it fitted fine on the bust, (certainly looser than other Toast linen dresses I have tried recently). It was just too big on the arms as I have small shoulders.

I also found the material too stiff and heavy to look good on me loose. I did wonder if it would soften much with washing, but wasn’t willing to risk it.

On my sister, who has very broad shoulders, but a much much smaller bust than me, the same dress hung much better and she has kept it.

Dee1224 · 07/07/2023 22:10

I meant to say - the material is quite thick cotton!

I've narrow shoulders. Everything sits wrong in that dept! I can't do puffs as they always sit in the wrong place apart from the Maya. I'm also back to
getting hot flushes so can't do thick material. It not looking promising🤣🤣🤣🤣

I hope it works out for you @neveradullmoment99 - it’s a nicely made, good quality dress! My sister loves hers.

Thanks @neveradullmoment99 and @Alpacasoft for the intel on the pond dress, may just order two sizes.

I was in one of the stores yesterday and ended up coming away with a skirt and a teeshirt: the abstract paint organic cotton skirt in a medium (true to size and definitely a 12)and a delft easy cotton tee which picks up the blue in the skirt. The skirt is wonderful, pleated but flatteringly so so that it doesn’t add bulk to your middle. I also tried on the garment dyed linen pinafore jumpsuit in the beautiful rich blue. It looked absolutely amazing except that the bust in the 12 was way too tight. They didn’t have a large for me to try on but no doubt it would have swamped me everywhere else. These jumpsuits and some of the pinafore dresses are made for women who have very petite chests. I had the Sam problem when I tried on the garment dyed linen sun dress in poppy: the medium looked lovely but a tad too tight in the bust and also skimpily cut so you could see your bra. I would have bought it in a heartbeat if it had fitted in the chest.

The surprise for me in the new collection was the embroidered textured cotton dress in anthracite (navy to us) with the yellow embroidery. It looks like nothing on the hanger but the shop assistant was wearing it and I tried it on and loved it. Again true to size and the medium fitted my 12 body. If you have a fuller bust you might have to size up. The belt allows you to clinch it in and it is very flattering. Alas I left it in the shop as the £195 price tag felt too inflated.

The new stock abstract paint organic cotton items are lovely, aren’t they ? Your skirt and Tee combination sound glorious. I saw someone trying on the dress in this fabric in the shop and it looked beautiful, very stylish, it is very much a statement piece and I’m sure the skirt is equally lovely. The bold colours are eye-catching without being harsh. Looks nicer in real life than in the pictures online. A member of Toast staff said they’d seen it styled on a customer worn open over trousers, a boy tee and canvas pumps and that the combination worked well.

I tried on and bought the new denim skirt. It hangs well, is very comfortable, the bottom flares out ever so slightly to help balance out proportions and there are loops for a belt which I thought was quite an interesting feature (I’ve not seen them on the denim skirts before). A good way to elevate a basic staple if necessary. I’m anticipating this skirt will get lots of wear.

Saurus72 · 08/07/2023 00:13

@Noodle421 Ah that skirt is on my A/W wish list, what’s the sizing like please?

True to size. I’m a UK 12. It is a good comfortable fit. I didn’t intend to buy it today, I wanted to wait a few weeks but I got a bit of fomo when I found out they’d sold two today already.

Saurus72 · 08/07/2023 00:39

Thanks, I need to wait a couple of weeks to let my finances recover post-sale, so I’ll need to conquer the fomo and sit tight… looks like it will be a workhorse with a jumper and boots come autumn.

dudsville · 08/07/2023 01:43

This has got to be the most active thread nowadays, wonderful! I have to be careful not to get fomofrom you all and look back in the sale. I had some t shirts arrive but one chalk tee had a green tinge, the other chalk tee is like the oddly short navy boat neck , so they're going back. I do have a large or xl navy boat neck coming tomorrow. None of these are exciting!

ilovecherries · 08/07/2023 06:48

Oh no, I didn’t know that about kin - although having said that I also haven’t bought anything from there for several years. It had started to feel a bit like Evans used to in the days when it was called Evans Outsize. I have 3 green denim shirt dresses from Kin in khaki, cream and blue that I’ve worn loads

I’m finding the JL store in Glasgow always looks messy and unappealing now. I can’t put my finger on what it is but the merchandising is horrible. Haven’t been to Edinburgh since it had its do-over so it might be better now but it used to be the same. Newcastle is beautifully laid out.

@neveradullmoment99 - I'm going to put in a good word for the panelled dress.

It is a bit too thick for very warmest summer days but I wore it out to lunch with a group of girlefriends who were massively complimentary (we are not a group given to commenting on appearances).

It was comfortable to wear in the warm restaurant and very flattering. I love it. My friend tried it on and was a bit blah on her (we always suit very different things).

I thought looked better with necklace or scarf as pretty austere. Looks great with a bright kantha jacket.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 08/07/2023 08:41

That’s disappointing about Kin, I have several pieces, although mostly bought from Vinted. I usually check out the range when I’m in Norwich but haven’t found anything inspiring this year.

Still hoping Toast will open a store in Norwich.

Laska2Meryls · 08/07/2023 09:04

Well I have emailed Toast about my last order because I decided that if I keep one pair of the trousers, then I am no longer any different ( but I want the sale difference refunded) and also about the perfumed alpaca tank . Am hoping that they may offer me a further discount on it ..
I tried it on again this morning and it is actually nice when worn over a long shirt and trousers .. I think that I was hot and over cross trying it last night after a long day and travelling, but anyway, unless they offer me a further discount I won't keep it ..
I also had a good old moan about Toast 'new' sizing !!

Think it's all the different units. It's a bit 'tired' in general. Agree.

It's like they keep sending things out in case someone won't notice, which for the price is a bit rubbish. I don't mind if it's in a clearance sale at tkmaxx or in the past JL at 70% off, but not great otherwise. Also really shitty is people who wear things and then send them back

@neveradullmoment99 - yes I liked that one too. I ordered the green though and the colour wasn't as nice (trying not to be wall to wall black). Did you know they're killing Kin? Most of the recent things have not been good choices, but it used to be amazing didn't it? Really good quality, and well made, and POCKETS. They have so little at JL with pockets now. They said they'd keep some popular designs from Kin, but it would be the end of the label 😒

Thanks. Is yours the navy?
I receive it today! But mines the dhal. Is it tts?
