@Alpacasoft , tempted by the Pond, lost track on the thread and the conversation on it but does it come up big?

Ive the pond dress. It is generous everywhere except the bust. I got the medium. I am a 34E

neveradullmoment99 · 07/07/2023 14:37

You can ask for the actual measurements in the chat. They give you them pretty quickly.

Oh gorgeous! The Mexican Tile dress always makes me smile, some day I'll see it in the wild and embarrass myself being giddy about it.

I do feel that Toast used to do ‘happier’ clothing that it does now. Not garish or ditsy but still interesting patterns. I feel they’ve got a bit stuck with the checks atm. I love a good check, but I do feel a bit over them.

@Stoic123 - I love that Tile dress. I bid on one on eBay recently but dropped out early on - I wonder if we were in the same auction! (It’s a small world!)

Thanks to all who have shared bra ideas - I am always looking for some that suit/fit.

Parcel arrived - very disappointed:

Dhal linen panelled dress in Medium. Lovely colour, but the material felt very thick and uncomfortable, (to me), and it was just too big!

Second try with the Diamond cotton cheap trousers. This time Small was too small, (the Medium had been too big).

Linen dress in Copper in Large. I loved the feel and colour of this and it wasn’t too voluminous below the waist. However, my bra showed everywhere, the straps wouldn’t stay put and it pulled a bit across the chest.

Whilst I was in a grump about the above, I also decided to return last week’s Japanese socks - horrid colour and I can’t bear the rough feel of them on my fingers!

I am currently sulking in the garden!

Stoic123 · 07/07/2023 15:28

@Dee1224 - sorry not good outcomes. I like the panelled dress but not really a summer dress.

Which socks? Like a bit of sock intel.

Dee1224 · 07/07/2023 15:33

Hi @Stoic123 - they are the ‘blue’ Japanese socks, reduced in the sale:

Nishiguchi Kutsushita Hemp Cotton Socks | Navy - Navy / One Size

They are actually black, (or as near as makes no difference), and feel really rough. They look and feel a bit like genuine old fishermen’s jumpers.

I am sure some people love them, and they seem well-made, but I like ‘soft’ socks!

Dee1224 · 07/07/2023 15:36

I have Pond coming - probably on Monday - in Small, but although the faulty Medium I tried previously was big everywhere, I just know that this is going to be too tight on the bust.

The linen top with the neck tie is also coming.

Stoic123 · 07/07/2023 15:37

@Dee1224 - I agree with you. Ordered the green ones earlier in the sale and returned too - the first Toast socks return.

Dee1224 · 07/07/2023 15:39

Ah yes, @Stoic123 I remember you saying you had returned socks, but didn’t realise it was the same make as mine!

Dee1224 · 07/07/2023 15:41

Or even: ‘they were’ - my grammar is slipping due to the unaccustomed heat!

I don't know,I was asking the same😃
On the model the XS looks loose so I ordered both small and medium.
I'm getting braver!
God knows what my CC company thinks with all the big orders and refunds!

ToastCosILoveIt · 07/07/2023 16:55

Thanks @neveradullmoment99 and @Alpacasoft for the intel on the pond dress, may just order two sizes.

I was in one of the stores yesterday and ended up coming away with a skirt and a teeshirt: the abstract paint organic cotton skirt in a medium (true to size and definitely a 12)and a delft easy cotton tee which picks up the blue in the skirt. The skirt is wonderful, pleated but flatteringly so so that it doesn’t add bulk to your middle. I also tried on the garment dyed linen pinafore jumpsuit in the beautiful rich blue. It looked absolutely amazing except that the bust in the 12 was way too tight. They didn’t have a large for me to try on but no doubt it would have swamped me everywhere else. These jumpsuits and some of the pinafore dresses are made for women who have very petite chests. I had the Sam problem when I tried on the garment dyed linen sun dress in poppy: the medium looked lovely but a tad too tight in the bust and also skimpily cut so you could see your bra. I would have bought it in a heartbeat if it had fitted in the chest.

The surprise for me in the new collection was the embroidered textured cotton dress in anthracite (navy to us) with the yellow embroidery. It looks like nothing on the hanger but the shop assistant was wearing it and I tried it on and loved it. Again true to size and the medium fitted my 12 body. If you have a fuller bust you might have to size up. The belt allows you to clinch it in and it is very flattering. Alas I left it in the shop as the £195 price tag felt too inflated.

If anyone else was, like me, hoping for a further reduction on the waterproof cape. I have found one which is really really nice (nicer than Toast but a similar vibe) and very oddly it's Boden. I haven't bought anything from there for about ten years! So surprised! It also comes in sizes which makes it more realistic.

I can tell we're in the dregs of the sale because both items in the parcel I received today were things that popped back up and were both faulty/poorly thought out. A navy sweater with uneven seams at the front - really noticeable as they are up at the neck and not spaced evenly. Pretty sure that'll be why that was returned. Then also the palm print trousers - the pattern placement was hilarious. It looked like I was wearing black shorts - the pattern was all from the mid though downwards. Not a good look, which is a huge shame as the fit was perfect. Both going straight back Sad

Really nice!
I bought the kin waterproof in black. It was reduced to £55. It's also lovely.

That's shocking 😲
A quality brand trying to palm off these seconds is a disgrace!

Stoic123 · 07/07/2023 18:36

@AmethystMoonShine - yep. The bento set arrived today and the spoon that came with it was split. I like the set and it's now sold out so have asked Toast to find me a replacement spoon. I'm waiting to hear from them (chat person asked me to send photos).

I wish they quality checked before sending out.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 07/07/2023 18:46

@Dee1224 I really like those socks, I’ve bought 5 pairs, although the green is nothing like the website. I've found them really useful in my walking boots.

Shame about the rest of your parcel, hopefully you will do better with the Pond dress.

Alpacasoft · 07/07/2023 18:48

I'm sure it's ( seconds) part of their MO on " avoiding waste" and a quirk of the design or fabric Hmm
Not acceptable

Dee1224 · 07/07/2023 19:06

Thanks @Theteapotsbrokenspout - I am keeping my fingers crossed for Pond!

I actually thought of hiking socks when I opened the parcel tbh - they certainly look sturdy, but I was hoping they would be soft like the newer cream Japanese socks🙃.

Dee1224 · 07/07/2023 19:12

As you know, I have had to send a few sale items back due to being faulty.

The wonky stitching on the Landscape and one pocket being higher than the other on the Pond were the worst, but flaws at the front of the sail stripe dress were disappointing too.

That said, I wish I had kept the sail stripe and taken the offered discount 🙃.

I am sad to hear that other people are having similar quality issues - very disappointing. It’s fine to have faulty/faultyish stuff at the SM store - properly labelled, of course - but not sent out to unsuspecting customers as perfect!

clowniform · 07/07/2023 19:24

@Laska2Meryls thanks for the sandals link! A slightly wider fit is good for me, so that's a bonus. I've signed up to be notified if they come back in my size.

Sorry to hear of everyone's recent duds though it's helping me stay away from 'final reduction' temptations. Just as the Margaret Howell sale starts.

faustina · 07/07/2023 19:52

It's like they keep sending things out in case someone won't notice, which for the price is a bit rubbish. I don't mind if it's in a clearance sale at tkmaxx or in the past JL at 70% off, but not great otherwise. Also really shitty is people who wear things and then send them back

@neveradullmoment99 - yes I liked that one too. I ordered the green though and the colour wasn't as nice (trying not to be wall to wall black). Did you know they're killing Kin? Most of the recent things have not been good choices, but it used to be amazing didn't it? Really good quality, and well made, and POCKETS. They have so little at JL with pockets now. They said they'd keep some popular designs from Kin, but it would be the end of the label 😒

neveradullmoment99 · 07/07/2023 20:03

@faustina I didn't know that but kind of suspected something was a miss as there was very little that was new on. That is such a shame. I really disliked some of the prints tbh. They were pretty garish. So sad though. Really loved their old stuff. They were really like Toast things. Such a shame.

faustina · 07/07/2023 20:05

The prints were horrible, you're right!
