I always wanted a lady's maid, surely she'd be an expert at removing boots while leaving toes intact 🤢

Before I forget, Raey is having its first ever sample sale for any of you lucky enough to be in/near London.

Taking note of that!

CrkdLttrCrkdLttr · 19/08/2023 10:56

Thanks! That sounds immense fun. Partly because I’d really love to know what other Raey fans look like. Grin

(I almost certainly won’t be able to go …)

Floisme · 20/08/2023 10:08

Thanks for the link, Desmond. Not heard of her, will definitely take a close look.

Hope someone can make it to the Raey sale and report back.

Crkd those boots are lovely but I'm not sure I could stand the stress of not knowing if I could get them off at the end of the day.

botemp · 20/08/2023 10:10

I excitedly clicked but have come back deflated. It's all a bit basic, unexcitedly classic without any flair and the prices appear too low to be nice materials (this is always the downfall of their JW Anderson colabs as well, but at least that's legibly JW Anderson, I struggle to see CWK in much of this). The only things that look to have a bit design to them are the knit dress, pleated colour block skirt and oversized jacket. Kudos to the stylist on the lookbook though, they've managed a lot with very little to go on, it does feel a bit like budget Phoebe Philo Céline, I wonder if the release of this colab has been timed to coincide with PP's brand on purpose.

Don't know who CWK is Flo Shock she was at Givenchy previously, first female to hold the job. Chloé before that to great fame. She designed Meghan's wedding gown (although perhaps that's not the best representation of her work).

OP posts:
Floisme · 20/08/2023 10:24

Nope - I only know about designers who end up on the second hand market Grin

Floisme · 20/08/2023 10:25

Oh her? Meghan's dress possibly not her finest hour but ok

EffortlessDesmond · 20/08/2023 10:27

Fair does... it looked better on a smaller screen, but I am ridiculously thrilled with the baseball caps (useful for keeping the rain off my glasses!), the pleated skirt and the mustard trousers. Will aim for a couple of items and report on the fabrics.

Redandblue11 · 20/08/2023 11:21

I am very surprised about those prices.
But I am also keen to see them close irl. I also like the pleated skirt and possibly the knitted dress. The baseball cap has a great shape and I could be tempted.
I will do a wonder in the shops in London at some point and report back.

The prices on the Ines de la Fressange are incredible - but I don't mean that in a good way. They are only credible if quality of material and working conditions are of no importance.

Redandblue11 · 20/08/2023 17:02

Question to @quirkychick mainly but anyone else who knows pls chip along - any silver jewellery shop/designer you can recommend?
Just looking for a present (not special number) so less than £100. For someone who loves silver understated jewellery.
thanks!

quirkychick · 20/08/2023 17:31

@Redandblue11 Etsy is great, generally. I have a couple of things from Wild Nora (hammered bangles), that are pretty simple.

botemp · 20/08/2023 17:55

There's a lot of deeply discounted bits by Cornelia Webb on the Outnet atm, it's more Scandi contemporary than Etsy craft style though so it depends on her style. Wolf and Badger has a lot of interesting jewellery designers on there and a little easier to navigate than Etsy these days.

Redandblue11 · 21/08/2023 18:52

Thank you both. A few things choose from , I saw a couple of things I might consider.

Floisme · 24/08/2023 09:21

I've just been looking at the dark brown velvet skirt in the Ines de la Fressange for Uniqlo collection. I have too many skirts that I haven't worn in years to seriously contemplate buying another but I do like a bit of good cotton velvet whilst also really disliking the synthetic velour stuff. At £49.90 it was only ever going to be the second variety but I was still startled to see them them describing the 'glossy sheen' as if it were a selling point. Anyway it sold out in front of my eyes so I'm clearly a minority view.

Also noticed some positively Boden-esque cropped cashmere cardigans in the C collection. Again I don't need to buy any, just curious to see them popping up there. What did take my eye were the loafers in dark brown. Normally if I'm looking for loafers, the only ones I can find that aren't black are at Joseph Cheaney kind of prices, so I might keep an eye on them. I know they're not leather but my H&M experience earlier this year changed my view of plastic shoes.

Floisme · 24/08/2023 09:24

And Red, I totally missed your good news, Phew! You must be very relieved.

Redandblue11 · 24/08/2023 13:40

Just looked at the ILF x uniqlo and I am very underwhelmed. Looking at those blouses too … just so boring looking.
I am hoping that the Mame Kurogouchi collab delivers more.

mm47 · 24/08/2023 23:32

Too much polyester!

MmePoppySeedDefage · 25/08/2023 08:43

Apart from cheapness, I don't understand why there is so much polyester around now. There's been huge pressure on companies to reduce plastic packaging but don't people realise they are almost buying plastic when they buy polyester clothing that arrives wrapped in eco paper? Even really expensive brands use it.

I do have one polyester garment, a dress from Agnès B that has actually been brilliant and has lasted years. My other polyester purchase was a mid-range blouse that looked fine for a while; then suddenly looked like a rag, and anecdotally this is what happens with poly.

Floisme · 25/08/2023 08:47

IdlF always seems to manage one thing that takes my eye. In the summer she did a full, gingham cotton skirt that had a bit of a Cabbages & Roses vibe, but it sold out straight away and I never saw it in real life. But I've seen a fair bit of it (IdlF generally not the skirt) in charity shops and it doesn't look as it it wears well.

Anyway I have bought something new! these Community Clothing trousers in the denim. I wanted a bit of an upgrade on jeans because, although I have plenty of casual summer trousers, they don't cut it once the weather turns.

I've tried denim trousers before but they've always looked like jeans except without the contrast stitching or rivets. But these are in a fluid, drapey denim and they look just a bit more polished, which is exactly what I was after. They look wider on me than they do on the model but I'm probably several inches smaller than her. But they're not outrageously wide - rain and puddle friendly.
I'm so pleased, I'm tempted to try the tan ones too, which sound as though they're in a heavier fabric. It'll leave a hole in my autumn/winter budget if I do but then I don't really need very much else.

I do like Community Clothing. You could argue their website doesn't do them justice but then they don't spend on A lister models and photography so it all has a bit of a DIY feel, but there's nothing amateur about their clothes. I'd love to see them branch out into tweed - there are one or two mills left in the north of England so come on Patrick Grant!

CrkdLttrCrkdLttr · 25/08/2023 09:12

Exciting buy, @Floisme! I regret having missed opportunities to visit one of the CC pop-up shops, so I’ve never seen the trousers in the flesh. Glad they’re living up to expectations.

But yes, CC tweed jackets, or trousers, would be a great idea. Not so sure about skirts - I always have the impression men’s tailors think dresses and skirts are easy - so their attempts are generally oversimplified and boxy. There’s an element of that with the CC dresses, and their, is it one, or two, skirts?

In the meantime you could always snap up this E. Tautz (Patrick Grant’s previous men’s tailoring brand - I’m sure I recall there were some women’s clothes as well …) tweed jacket from Vestiaire and have it cut to size.

Floisme · 25/08/2023 09:45

Oh I love a bit of men's tailoring Crkd, as you probably know! My sewing table is a graveyard of butchered suit jackets that I arrogantly thought I could alter to fit. Fortunately they were all charity shop buys so no real harm was done. I did find a couple of Top Man size 34 jackets in wool that fit my shoulders - not so well at the boobs but then I don't wear them fastened. I also have a pinstripe Agnes B Hommes jacket that I'll be either wearing as it is or entrusting to a tailor.

Agree about CC skirts and dresses although I bet they could knock out a cracking Miss Marple skirt!

mm47 · 25/08/2023 15:18

Love the idea of denim trousers Flo hope you will model & post.
