I too thought that @SenecaFallsRedux re Diana being the third daughter and coming after the death of the heir, John, who was born after Sarah and Jane but only lived for 10 hours. That must have been very hard on Frances ( and Johnny ). To lose a child having borne them to term. To lose a male child while living under a ridiculous traditional primogenitural system.
And oh how Diana blossomed.
Who'd have thought.

Sadly the Spencers were just as, if not more dysfunctional than the Windsors. At least Kate has the support of a stable and loving family.

I genuinely think that's what's helped William. Being with the Middletons.

I think much of the Diana magic came from how quickly she arrived on the scene, plus being so young, in that we were sold the fairytale from the beginning. I remember watching the wedding, it was the biggest televised event ever and everyone just bought into the fairytale. She was the ultimate princess (and I say that as a form Camilla fan, I'm not a Diana fan girl).

The one thing I can think of that Diana and Catherine might have in common is a liking for costume jewellery. I seem to remember Diana wore Cabouchon rather than Claire’s Accessories but definitely costume, not precious.
