Those fabulous jewels need to be worn by someone young and glamorous, as the Queen was when she came to the throne. Camilla can wear a tiara but it’s just not the same.

ChicoryDip · 26/07/2023 23:49

I think we'll begin to see Kate wearing some of the more blingy jewels over the coming years but very carefully and gradually introduced. It's only been a year since HMQE died and we've had all of the build up to the Coronation with a focus on C&C.

Kate and Sophie were never going to throw open the jewellery vault and start showcasing the contents. They would have been heavily criticised by the media for being inappropriate (and rightly so imho).

Kate, Sophie and some of the other Royals have many years ahead of them to wear some 'big hitting' pieces of jewellery. I am sure that the Keeper of the Royal Spreadsheets is already on the case but secretly I do hope we see some soon! 😊

KillingMeDeftly · 26/07/2023 20:57

There's been a few weird articles about Kate recently 🤔

What kind of weird? I haven't noticed anything

Tippingadvice · 27/07/2023 00:53

I think there is a careful plan of who wears what, plus tiara’s once worn seem to stay with that person.

I once read somewhere that there are rules around reconfiguring jewels. Something like if it was 1 or 2 generation old it could be reconfigured but if it was 3 generations old it became historical and so couldn’t. I may have got that completely wrong.

SqueakyDinosaur · 27/07/2023 08:05

There may be rules now, but there certainly weren't for Queen Mary or the Queen Mother! They were forever remodelling stuff.

I wonder if this is something that gradually 'became' a rule over QEII's reign, because it was her personal preference. Like the 'no dark/bright nail polish' - PoW has been seen several times since The Funeral with red nails? No bare legs is another example.

chesterelly1 · 27/07/2023 12:20

@Ohpleeeease proper lols at Mrs The King (from DS's favourite film when he was wee). Think I'll be using that going forward.
I think jewellery is very personal and so much is linked to QEII it may take time for other Royal ladies to feel comfortable wearing it. I know I was only ready to wear my DM's rings quite recently and it is 8 years since she died. And I don't have to think about the damned if you do/damned if you don't articles that appear when I'd rather wear something cheap and cheerful, maybe because one of the DC picked it

KillingMeDeftly · 27/07/2023 14:58

It could also be that the younger royals don't really like the heavy blingy pieces that the QM and Queen Mary were so fond of. From what we've seen of Kate, her taste in jewellery seems to be far more minimalist. Even on big occasions she keeps it low key with maybe just one piece, usually earrings, that stands out.

Ohpleeeease · 27/07/2023 19:59

I’d be interested to know who lends out the jewels these days. The Queen used to lend pieces from her personal collection, does that now fall to Charles? It might explain why Mrs TK has all the flashy pieces!

Tippingadvice · 27/07/2023 20:24

@SqueakyDinosaur that was my point previous royals have frequently remodelled the previous generations jewels but Queen Elizabeth didn’t do it anywhere near as much so it maybe if Camilla doesn’t remodel then they become historic pieces because they are then 2 or 3 generations old.

MotherofPearl · 27/07/2023 20:54

Slim pickings on NMR, but I was really struck by these photos of CP Elisabeth taken for Belgium's National Day. I think she looks amazing in this uniform (she wears it nearly as well as Princess Anne).

Grannies chips were repurposed very quickly. I shall miss them 😢

KnickerlessParsons · 27/07/2023 22:47

The old Queen had 70 years to get to know the royal jewellery collection and so probably knew who she'd want to lend what.
Kate, Sophie and Camilla wouldn't be nearly so familiar with what's available

MotherofPearl · 28/07/2023 18:21

Bea and Edo are in St Tropez.

I need it to be the end of long, puffy- and long-sleeved, high-necked floral dresses now.

Make. It. Stop.

The Duchess of Brabant looks amazing in uniform! The second photo makes me think of one of Kate's Remembrance coats.

Ohpleeeease · 28/07/2023 20:19

This is just for you @chesterelly1

Lynda Weathers [Mrs The King] :"Whatever happens, you're a winner to me, you old daddy rabbit."
Strip Weathers:"Thanks, dear. Wouldn't be nothing without you."

Anyone watching Downfall of a King on sky docs?

Amen.

It's not just that it's ugly, those of us over a C cup just can't wear those high necks. They're blooming everywhere.

MotherofPearl · 28/07/2023 20:34

I'm an A cup (or even AA Blush) and even that doesn't help me look good in those ghastly high-necked horrors.

Ah Lisa Hilton. Many years ago I went to a talk she was giving about her book on the Queens of England. She was stunning and incredibly glamorous and looked nothing like what I expected a historian to look like! She has since moved on to writing erotic fiction!!

justasking111 · 28/07/2023 21:13

I'm fed up with the Amish look. It's summer. It's st Tropez fgs show something summery.

MrsLeonFarrell · 28/07/2023 21:27

I love the lightweight long sleeve dresses, just wish I could afford them in silk so they are bearable in the heat. I sunburn so easily that I would happily sacrifice the neckline for the coverage!

CliffsofMohair · 28/07/2023 22:06

Thank you for all the lovely messages whilst I was indisposed. Home and feeling marginally better, painkillers and listening to non stop Sinead O Connor (RIP) on the radio. You’re all very sweet to think of me.

Para-Royal wedding to report on - Isobel Stanley, 2nd cousin of W& H on the Spencer side got married in a dress echoing Kate’s and looked like the happiest bride ever. There was an evening gown but I didn’t see any pictures.

Martha Louise and the girls take on Barbie. No Derek Durek.

Glad to hear you're home Cliffs. I hope you will recuperate quickly.

Beautiful tiara the bride is wearing there.

KillingMeDeftly · 29/07/2023 06:39

I don't care for the wedding dress but that tiara is splendid!

Glad you're back home @CliffsofMohair and would you believe I only recently found out about the inspiration for your username??

Eaumyword · 29/07/2023 07:41

Glad you're home @CliffsofMohair 💕
Love those wedding photos - she looks bursting with excitement and happiness!
