It’s madness for me to buy a silk summer dress isn’t it?

I’ve seen a dress I really love. But it’s 100% silk and expensive even in the sale.

I am not a naturally tidy person.

It would be madness for me to buy it wouldn’t it? Please remind me how easily silk stains etc

Do you genuinely think it’s massively overpriced? I mean, how much do you think an expanse of silk fabric, design, labour, rent, fuel, insurance, advertising, etc, etc, plus justifiable profit, ought to cost?

I bought a patterned silk Pucci dress in 2007, for a lot more than £200c and it remains one of the hero pieces of my wardrobe. Just saying. 😁

I love a silk dress, buy it and wear it forever.

Im wearing a 100% silk lounge dress right now, perfect for weather like today.

I grew up seeing my mum wearing mostly pure silk dresses in summer(my hometown is very hot in summer) and knew all the benefits of the fabric. When I was a pupil, I even tried to grow my own silk worms and managed to get some silk from the cocoons.

Yes its expensive but it is worth it. There is also a lot of difference between pure silk fabrics, good once cost a fortune.

I'll keep spamming the thread with even more expensive silk dresses
Do you love it?
It can be washed on the wool cycle
Will you wear it for years?
Could you tuck it in your jeans and wear it as a top?

Otarge · 10/06/2023 18:25

Op we need to see the dress

Dancingoapin · 10/06/2023 18:26

It honestly looks much better in the flesh and is more shaped than on the model!

If you really love it and will treasure it then go for it. BUT if you do purchase it be sure to wear as much as you can for as long as you love it. Much better it be worn and ruined that to hang with its label waiting for a day that will never come.

Itisyourturntowashthebath · 10/06/2023 18:27

It is not the sort of style to go hideously out of fashion.
Buy it before someone else does.

Itisyourturntowashthebath · 10/06/2023 18:28

I do like it, just not for me.
Do they have other colours?

GettingStuffed · 10/06/2023 18:29

Silk is UV sensitive and can rot if exposed to UV

Worldgonecrazy · 10/06/2023 18:29

I hand wash silk using baby shampoo and cold water. Washing up liquid if there is a tough grease stain.

Patterned silk is easier to hide stains.

Cedar wood and anti moth is essential too for storage.

Silk is a beautiful fabric to wear. Go for it if you love it!

Dancingoapin · 10/06/2023 18:32

@SauceForTheGoose - yes I completely agree with this and was guilty for ages of not wearing the clothes I really loved/were expensive. I do now wear them!

It’s actually why I quite like this dress as it can be worn pretty casually or dressed up a bit. The print is much prettier in person.

Buy it buy it buy it buy it

LaurieFairyCake · 10/06/2023 18:34

Definitely buy it

I have loads of silk dresses for summer, they weigh nothing

Easy to just bung in the washing machine on 20 too - I've never ruined one yet !

Papernotplastic · 10/06/2023 18:40

I have a silk shirt that doesn’t look much on the hanger and is a nondescript bluey-grey but when I put it on it makes my skin and hair look amazing and it hangs beautifully. I’ve had so much wear out of it and it looks like I’ve made an effort even if I’ve thrown it on with a pair of jeans.

LeeMiller · 10/06/2023 18:43

Go for it.

I live in Italy so long, very hot summers. Last spring I sold all my old summer stuff and bought a few patterned silk dresses, tops and skirts and it transformed my summer! Silk is the only thing that feels cool in the heat and all I’ll wear in summer months now. I have a messy preschooler who is always covering me in dirt but as long as there’s a pattern it’s fine. Soak in cold water and rub on some washing up liquid and pretty much everything comes out.

Atethehalloweenchocs · 10/06/2023 18:46

Silk is amazing in the summer. If you love it and can afford it, go for it.

Crikeyalmighty · 10/06/2023 18:49

Well I like it !!
