Nice stuff in matalan!

Spent the morning looking for summer dresses. Very limited here but tried Next, H&M, sainsburys and Asda. All awful. Could have cried at one point, I had a moment of 'who the hell even am I?!' when I saw myself in yet another terrible dress.

Anyway, I hit the jackpot in matalan. So many lovely dresses. Great colours, nice fit, bra friendly. Bought 5 and even better they were all half price!

What is the sizing like this year?
A couple of years ago I ordered several items size 10 online, they were massive! I returned to store and picked up size 8. Foolish me for not trying on in store as they were still hanging off me. I never managed to return them and ended up selling for a couple of pounds each on eBay so I haven’t ordered again, even though they quite often have nice stuff. I might have a look if the sizing is okay.

I love Matalan especially for sandals!

Drop down 1 or even 2 sizes especially as a lot of styles are over sized anyway.

The things I bought weren’t oversized styles, it was just ridiculous, but you’ve confirmed it would be too much of a hassle to buy.

LawksaMercyMissus · 10/06/2023 16:55

Got a beautiful pair of cream jeans from there, amazing quality !

LadyBird1973 · 10/06/2023 20:47

I just bought 2 long straight skits with a side split. Their gym wear looked good too.

Rina66 · 10/06/2023 21:48

I bought two swimsuit cover ups, they are gorgeous, the white and black. It came in red too.

I love matalan. I bought a lovely black coat from there a few years ago. It's still going strong

NashvilleQueen · 10/06/2023 22:26

It's a funny place. Often dreadful but occasionally you hit the jackpot.

Yeah this sums up Matalan for me. The occasional gem lurking among the dross. And their homewares section can come up trumps too.

SoShallINever · 10/06/2023 23:08

I like their homewares, the Nicole Farhi stuff in particular.

Jellylover · 10/06/2023 23:37

Agree re the homewear stuff, and this year I’ve hit the jackpot with shorts, three quarter length trousers for work and their Grace jeans.

dontgobaconmyheart · 10/06/2023 23:46

I've given up looking in Matalan, I don't think I've ever bought any clothing in there with the exception of some knickers, which in fairness are great and I'll rebuy them. I do quite like some of their Homeware but to me it all sits in a similar vein to what you see in the likes of Tesco/Sainsbury's clothing - might be the odd reasonable thing but the majority is questionable, often poor quality and vanity sizing galore.

Lagershandy · 10/06/2023 23:46

Their t shirts are brilliant, fit beautifully and wash well.
I have a couple that I must have had at least 5 or 6 years and they still look great!

CuteCillian · 11/06/2023 01:33

Why does Matalan occasionally just absolutely nail it, whilst 96% of the time have awful stuff? My favourite white shirt ever, ever, ever, came from Matalan. It must be six years old now and still looks pristine and feminine. This season I have got a work smart dress that fits as if it were made for my specific measurements.

LadyBird1973 · 11/06/2023 09:45

All shops occasionally have something which is perfect. My mum made me go in Bon Marche and I found some perfect long, plain jumper dresses in nice colours - no frills or cheap ugly sewn on bits, like M&S had a habit of doing at the time. They've washed and worn well and I can still use them. Never seen anything in there before or since.
I've also bought things in Primark or Tesco for the kids that survived years and were good enough to be passed down. And other, more expensive things that have bobbled and disintegrated really quickly. It's all luck of the draw I think.

deedeemegadoodoo · 11/06/2023 23:16

I have had some lovely things from there recently - very French / Sezane style!

Rummikub · 11/06/2023 23:22

I used to shop there. True about the sizes being bigger. And longer than other stores.

Looks like they’ve changed their website. and where are the normal black cardigans gone?!

UnaVaca · 12/06/2023 06:26

@DarlingCoffee is it over sized?

DarlingCoffee · 12/06/2023 06:36

@UnaVaca i would say yes it is. It is also thicker denim than it looks which is why I think the quality is particularly good.

UnaVaca · 12/06/2023 06:38

I’m not sure whether to get a 10 or 12, May order both

This is lovely for the price...

Green Print Tie Front Jumpsuit - Matalan

I have just bought a pair of wide leg crops in Bon Marche, never had anything from them before. I had to size down 2 sizes. Only went in there because my dd wanted to see if they did vest tops.

Matalan has some nice linen bits this year. I agree it has often has lots of cheap rubbish but every now and again some great items, much like Peacocks.
