That’s a lovely dress @ilovecherries I also really like the check one you had on yesterday, (I tried that on revenons the SM outlet - I should have bought it!)

@dudsville - I really like those red check trousers but I think it depends on which pair you get. I tried on a pair in one store and they were great, then in another store it seemed like they were far too long in the crotch! I am glad they are back though, as I might take a chance on them. They are strangely flattering.

Dee1224 · 11/06/2023 18:13

I hate autocorrect - I meant I tried on the check dress recently!

I'm thinking of buying the Stripe Organic Crinkle Poplin Dress, and wondered if anyone had seen or tried it in real life? Is it quite large (as in voluminous)? As is it smart enough to wear to a garden party (not a wedding, just smart work event)?

This one: https://www.toa.st/collections/womens-dresses/products/stripe-organic-crinkle-poplin-dress-woad

@missmoon , I saw someone trying it on in the Marylebone store last Thursday. I would say she was a 10/12 and about 5ft 5. We spoke about it as I thought it looked lovely on her: not to big or too flouncy. She said she was going to have it taken up if she bought it although I thought the length was good (it is quite long - bottom of the shin type length - but I think the dress carries that off). She asked the assistant to hold it for her for an hour so not sure if she went back and bought it.

I really like that dress but I don’t think the colours will do anything for my skin tone.

Snowyowl78 · 11/06/2023 18:58

@Noodle421 thanks for the vest info!

@Laska2Meryls ihave it, do you mean this one? It’s pretty generous, they say it’s new sizing but it’s rather big. I sized down to the small, would never normally be a small. The area where it is probably least roomy is the chest/back so you might want to try both. I don’t think this will go into the sale because it’s quite new so I wouldn’t hold out for it.

Does anyone think I could dye the leaf print viscose dress in this pic? Seems like I might mess it up with the print, but I am inspired by the orange dying above!

AFingerofFudge · 11/06/2023 19:20

@Laska2Meryls I saw that dress instore today so I don't think it'll be in this sale sadly.

AFingerofFudge · 11/06/2023 19:21

@Snowyowl78 sorry I meant to tag you, not Laska in that last post!!

Laska2Meryls · 11/06/2023 19:22

Thanks @Snowyowl78 , yes thats the one.. I am pretty sure that it wont be in the sale either...I may go for XL then as I have wide shoulders..
I alsohave that leaf print dress! Really wish that I had brought it with me !! Its still showing 29.5 deg here in Delft NL ( we are an hour ahed of UK)..
I am not sure how well would dye , but its viscose so should take colour.. I rather like the yellowy cream background of it though.

Laska2Meryls · 11/06/2023 19:23

@AFingerofFudge Right first time! It was me that was asking!

Laska2Meryls · 11/06/2023 19:29

There's nothing that I currently have on my sale list ( maybe the Cleo striped tee if it gets to be a sensible price).. so I think that I will order the tunic dress

triggers34 · 11/06/2023 19:39

Can I join? I've lurked for ages but I've never owned any Toast , I do love it though just a bit pricey for me. Are the sales good ?
Actually I did buy a dress a couple of weeks ago , it was too small so I sold it on Vinted . Suspiciously the same dress has just appeared on eBay for £85 😂
way more than I sold it for . It's the checked midi shirt with embroidered collar . Now I'm like a dog looking for a snack under a car - always checking for more Toast stuff in friends of the animals !

Countmeout · 11/06/2023 19:49

I’m not sure how that would dye @Snowyowl78 . Is the leaf brown already. If so it would only go darker but @Laska2Meryls is the expert.
my dress was grey and light grey. It went brown and orange presumably because the darker grey had a blue tone. I used quite a bright orange dye from the range.

@ilovecherries lovely sandals you have on in that picture too. I'm watching a very similar pair on eBay at the moment.

I too went to my local TOAST exchange, slim pickings but I got a dress that I think is very old TOAST. Won't be wearing down the local high street but will hopefully be nice on holiday abroad.

dudsville · 11/06/2023 20:30

That dress has a wonderful ikat print @ilovecherries !

Hi @triggers34 !

Your fabulous dye job @Countmeout has reminded me of a bright yellow shirt dress that has a flower pattern, i think it's boden from several years back. Well made but i never wore it. It took a couple of dyes but i turned it dark green and lovingly unpicked the seams and re-stiched with green thread. The damn thing has about 20 buttons though and i managed to not do them well, wore it to a national trust garden as soon as lockdown allowed and one by one all (I'm being dramatic, but it was a concerning number !) the buttons came off! I didn't get it out of storage this year as I'm preferring my lovely toast things but i liked the way the pattern held through the dye.

I'm enjoying how busy the thread is and seeing and hearing about all the outfits. I'm going to wear my newly streamlined denim trousers tomorrow with a dark check top, can't remember the name but they did a dress in the same fabric with the cinch-able waist ties? The shirt had a front pleat that billowed too much for me so I sewed it down and now its a flattering shape. It has long sleeves and is a weighty, drapey cotton but i think it will be good for tomorrow's weather here. Tuesday when the temp rises again i think we'll be the 1st summer wear of the olive oil shirt dress, which I'm looking forward to wearing!

dudsville · 11/06/2023 20:35

Thanks for the heads up @Dee1224 ! I've got a long wait for the red check trousers as they pre-order, but maybe by then the brown tank will be back in stock.

ilovecherries · 11/06/2023 21:08

I know the dress and top you mean, *dudsville, I have both bought two years ago in the sale but both are too big. I should probably sell them as I don’t want to actually fit them again, but I’ve never seen either on the second hand market. I’m not sure if the dressmaker could alter them or not. Although to be fair, she’s pretty good about saying upfront if things are just too big to retain the integrity of the initial garment.

Thank you, Mizu. The sandals are basic teva camp sandals and are very comfy as they have good built in arch support.

@ToastCosILoveIt thank you so much! This really helps.

Noodle421 · 11/06/2023 21:36

@triggers34 Hi and Welcome ! the sales can be good and popular items can disappear quite quickly eg knitwear in the winter sales. I’ve worked out in advance what I’d like (assuming they will go in the sale) and will try my best to stick to the plan as I’m prone to impulsive mistakes ! Annoying about the eBay dress !! You’ll know for next time. Good quality Toast does tend to sell well and keep reasonable value.

triggers34 · 11/06/2023 22:05

Thanks for the welcome , I'm ok about the dress , it may not even be the same one .
The orange dye looks fabulous btw @Countmeout .

Stoic123 · 11/06/2023 22:21

@triggers34 - welcome.

I often see the stuff I sell at a reasonable price reappear at a higher price but I price at a level to sell fast.

I did donate a couple of (less popular)Toast items to my local charity shop and saw them appear on eBay pretty rapidly afterwards (both items listed at same time by seller from my home town).

ilovecherries · 11/06/2023 22:26

Yeah, I sold a Riya dress (madras check that I’m convinced I stress-bought from the JL sale during the first lockdown) last month. I sold it for £55 BIN and the buyer had it back on eBay within hours of the delivery notification at £85. I really just wanted it gone though, they didn’t mess me about with stupid offers and left nice feedback which people rarely do anymore, so I was happy.

OP posts:
ilovecherries · 11/06/2023 22:30

I had really come to dislike it and it sort of glowered at me every time I opened the wardrobe door. I hope it brings someone else much happiness.

Thanks for replying about my dye endeavours @Laska2Meryls @Countmeout ! It looks like this up close. I do like it but the colours make me look pasty and ill. It’s probably a big mistake but maybe I’ll give it a go if feeling brave.

I saw the Cleo tee @Laska2Meryls how are they different from Emma’s? It is the neck do you think?
