Quiet luxury: am I the only one who is sick of this aesthetic?

I appreciate that paying for good quality makes financial sense in the long run but blinking heck I am sick of hearing about it. Am I the only one?

OP posts:
TwilightSkies · 02/06/2023 17:08

I’ve never heard of it.

ShirleyPhallus · 02/06/2023 17:09

I have literally never heard of this

botemp · 02/06/2023 17:10

Yup, not so much against the look of it (and arguebly I probably own a fair bit which would qualify but I just see at as a base to build off of) it's the veneration of it that annoys me and it seems to be clickbait gold as there's just an endless torrent of articles on it. But going by Twilight never having heard of it, I guess it just might be some people's algorithms that are flooded with it?

catsnhats11 · 02/06/2023 17:11

Never heard of it either

CaptainMyCaptain · 02/06/2023 17:13

Never heard of it either.

MorrisZapp · 02/06/2023 17:13

I wore camel once and looked actually deceased.

I hate it too. It's so boring.

MichelleScarn · 02/06/2023 17:16

Are people being facetious saying not heard of this? The oft quoted on MN Vimes Boots Theory.
"The Sam Vimes "Boots" theory of socioeconomic unfairness, often called simply the boots theory, is an economic theory that people in poverty have to buy cheap and subpar products that need to be replaced repeatedly, proving more expensive in the long run than more expensive items."

purplepencilcase · 02/06/2023 17:17

I have never heard of this - what is it? Home decor?

MichelleScarn · 02/06/2023 17:19

Ah quiet luxury is different..

midsomermurderess · 02/06/2023 17:20

Why join a thread only to say I haven't a clue what you're talking about? First two out of the traps, I don't know what you mean. Just bloody odd. People just wanting to bump their gums I suppose.

Successstory82 · 02/06/2023 17:21

So you read it in the guardian? And that’s… it?

PuppyMonkey · 02/06/2023 17:21

Two things I’ve never heard of. Not being facetious. Confused

LittlePampelmouse · 02/06/2023 17:21

I bet the 'never heard of it' contingent are feeling very proud of never having heard of it. You can just kinda feel it in the thread, you know? I think that never having heard about the quiet luxury trend might become a trend in itself at this rate.

Ive never heard of it either.
But! I think I know what you refer to. Wasn't there a youtube thing where tons of young women were obsessing over a 'tidy' look? I'm sure I'm not imagining it - it involved wearing a very tightly pulled back ponytail with not a single stray hair. It was quite intriguing.

Seaweasel · 02/06/2023 17:22

No, not trying to be funny, never heard of this. Is it just 'buy quality because it lasts'? My nan used to say that.

Woman2023 · 02/06/2023 17:22

I suspect those of us who have never heard of it have landed in style by accident.

Because if you’ve never heard of something
and someone says they are “sick of it”

you wouldn’t be intrigued to find out what it is ?

I imagine the camel didn't look too lively either.

thedevilinablackdress · 02/06/2023 17:22

I have heard of it, and I think the Guardian article is quite a good take on it. I don't enjoy the fawning elsewhere over Gwyneth and her extortionate Goop garments. But visually, I prefer it to frills and tiers, and weird cut outs.

JFDIYOLO · 02/06/2023 17:22

I'm afraid if I appeared in a white t shirt tucked into dark jeans I would look like I was there to repoint your walls and would probably be addressed as 'mate'.

PuppyMonkey · 02/06/2023 17:22

I came on to find out what it was, thinking it might be explained in the OP.

'clean girl aesthetic'

LittlePampelmouse · 02/06/2023 17:23

Let us all become entangled in a wild ball of fury over never having heard of it! It's my favourite MN sport Grin

Seaweasel · 02/06/2023 17:24

Yes, sorry me, too - wasn't trying to minimise your distress, just curious about this thing you're fed up with that nobody's bothered to tell me about.
