Are these shoes appropriate for work?

Following on from another thread, I have bought some summer work dresses. I never usually go bare legged to work, I’m always either in tights with a dress or trousers. This summer I’ve decided to ditch the tights as the office is so hot. The problem is, deciding what shoes to wear.

I work in a professional role where I am required to wear business dress. It is very male dominated so not many women to take the lead from style wise!

Would these shoes be ok for the workplace? If not, could you please link appropriate shoes? Side note - I always have a pedicure, no cracked heels etc.

I'd go for loafers

behaveasbefitsthesituationwillyas · 01/06/2023 14:55

They'd be perfectly fine in my office.

Thanks, closed toe it is!

I’m going to give these a go. I agree that the black against my pale skin may look silly, so will also look at a nude or tan option

I always wear loafer style in summer where ankles showing. Fitflop used to do some nice ones with great comfort, but this seasons ones are limited and not very nice. I have a pair of black and beige ones that work with most things. The black one have tiny cutout hole pattern which makes them cool, and the beige ones some nice fringing. So not boring, and smart.

Whiteroomjoy · 01/06/2023 15:06

Should say I prefer loafer style, I can’t keep ballet or normal court slip ons onto my feet- I have strange heals and the ankle never grips properly 🤷🏼‍♀️🤣

Imisssleep2 · 01/06/2023 15:11

Check your work place policy, at mine we arent allowed any open toed shoes for safety reasons. Can you not wear the ones you used to wear with tights?

It depends on the office to be honest, but when I worked in a more formal environment that required business dress, open-toed shoes wouldn’t have been appropriate unfortunately.

Same here. Sandals fine but not open toe

Lochjeda · 01/06/2023 16:01

I work for the council in an office and we all wear open toe sandals, no issue at all. Why would there be. I don't get it, its not like you are flashing your vulva, cleavage or arse.

Dixiechickonhols · 01/06/2023 16:23

I wear ballet flats. I personally wouldn’t wear sandals at work in an office.

Lochjeda · 01/06/2023 16:44

Blows my mind people seeing sandals as inappropriate as if a foot is offensive or unprofessional 🤣

No, always wear closed toes in the office.

😂

Is it because there are some foot fetishists in some workplaces?

Dontsayyouloveme · 01/06/2023 17:51

Loafers? Or too hot?

Jkrowlingsarmy · 01/06/2023 17:58

I would say closed toe in summer for office. I’m a teacher and we are allowed to wear sandals BUT have to have a sturdy back - no pretty delicate sandals which show too much foot. Luckily, sturdy clompy sandals are in style!

Jkrowlingsarmy · 01/06/2023 17:59

It’s not that feet are inappropriate or that women’s feet are sexualised (which I agree that they are) but my argument is just apply
it to me - would I want to see my male colleagues’ nobbly bobbly toes? No. It’s too casual.

If an environment dictates no open toes then ballet shoes aren't formal enough. They're also quite bad for your feet but that's a different issue.

I don't understand what ballet flats have to do with open toes?

BuggersMuddle · 01/06/2023 18:14

Depends on the office. No open toes used to be standard in my industry (along with no sleeveless, strappy tops etc.) but my office has certainly moved on.

I still wouldn't rock up in flip flops or a spaghetti strap top, but no-one would bat an eyelid at those in my office.

Gandalfsthong · 01/06/2023 19:07

I have a similar pair that I wear on days when I’m not meeting customers.

FANCHEA · 01/06/2023 19:37

Not in my work, as we have strict no open toe policy. Sorry! I just wear creamy coloured Clarks lace ups with my summer clothes at work. I used to have lovely gold pumps that went with everything but they died.

BriarHare · 01/06/2023 19:46

All this no open toe thing is news to me!

I am a manager in a very senior role and quite often wear Birkenstock Arizonas to the office. Today I wore leopard Hasbeens with my ties out. I don’t think I possess and sandals that have closed toes.

Our chief exec was wearing open toed sandals in our meeting this week.

TheMurderousGoose · 01/06/2023 20:23

Had a pedicure yesterday and wore sandals into work today with my delightful red tootsies on display. I love sandal season.

I wear these to work - fairly formal, smart setting. They’re really comfortable and have lots of ventilation for hot feet!

I like these v much.

Tartanpink · 01/06/2023 21:36

Glad to hear of all the fellow sandal embracers! I wore them yesterday with a midi dress however today I wore a knee length dress and they just felt a bit too naked. Loafers looked terrible with bare legs so I went for loafers and tights

I discovered my colleague had a foot fetish by wearing shoes like that to work.

Food for thought.
